Aqua’s tree houses serve two purposes - The first is environmental. By building above the forest floor, we minimized the resort’s impact on the delicate ecosystem of the jungle forest. The second purpose you’ll understand especially at sunset, while you lounge around your private deck, or soak in your plunge pool while watching the sun sink into Pacific.
Perched up high in your tree house, with views of the ocean and green-forested hills, you are truly immersed in nature. You will fall asleep to the tranquil waves of the ocean and wake up to the sounds of the tropics - more birds than you can imagine and perhaps a family of howler monkeys having breakfast in the trees surrounding you. Get your cameras ready.
Once you arrive, it will be hard to believe this was the value option. Luxuriate in the coziness. Perfect hideaway for couples on a getaway trip. Great option for the super active / involved people who only go back to their rooms to sleep. This space affords couples and solo travelers more than enough space to settle down for your vacation and relax after a long day of beach time or activities. Everything you need to unwind set into a perfect cozy nest.
Your ‘home away from home’ nestled in the trees. Perfect for discerning couples or couples with a small child wanting more space to relax. Ideal honeymooner’s pad. Enjoy preparing a meal together made from fresh local produce and seafood. Keep wines and champagne cold to enhance those special sunset or stargazing moments.
The addition of a kitchen and a private plunge pool sets this room classification apart from the rest and is the ultimate in privacy, convenience and jungle life experience. Truly a one of a kind option for those looking to disconnect from the busy environment and reconnect with ourselves and our surroundings.
A family or group of friends may choose to book an entire one, two, or three-bedroom tree house consisting of a luxury suite, plus one or two studios, and a kitchen and plunge pool.

You will be served healthy meals throughout the retreat. Your meals are included in the price. Aqua’s open-air beachfront restaurant serves healthy cuisine with contemporary flair and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. They source hormone-free meats and organic produce from local farmers, and each morning select their fish from the daily catch of fishermen in Gigante, less than a mile away. The coffee and espresso is made with organic Nicaraguan coffee beans.
Start your day with one a fresh-squeezed tropical juice or smoothie, such as the “Funky Monkey” which is made with orange juice, banana, cashew nuts, and cocoa nibs. The breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus feature American and international dishes, everything from fish tacos and pasta to pad Thai, as well as “typico” Nicaraguan specialties such as ceviche, gallo pinto and churrasco (Nicaraguan BBQ).
The chef is always happy to prepare special vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free dishes upon request.
Aqua is located on Nicaragua’s dramatic Emerald Coast, where rugged cliffs border unspoiled white sand beaches. You are encouraged to get out onto the open ocean during their stay, so that they can view the spectacular coastline and enjoy sightings of dolphin pods, sea turtles and, in when in season, whale migrations.
A half‐day cruise to “La Ancien,” a rock formation a mile south of Aqua, can be arranged. There is excellent snorkeling; a full‐day cruise to the lively beach town of San Juan del Sur, 12 kilometers south of Aqua; or a two‐hour cruise at sunset, when the sky morphs, as if by magic, from orange to crimson to indigo as the sun sinks into the Pacific.
Aqua’s serene, secluded and awe-inspiring forest / ocean-view setting is ideal for guests seeking a wellness vacation, one in which they can enjoy activities that are good for the body and the soul, eat healthily, and return home feeling revitalized. The tree house spa is an essential part of Aqua’s pure wellness in nature focus. The spa features one single and one couples’ treatment room, both with showers, and open-air ocean views that take relaxation to the next level.
Aqua offers an array of enjoyable day trips, both on land and by sea. They invite guests to explore nearby eco-sites including Masaya Volcano, Mombacho Volcano Reserve, the Granada Isletas, and Ometepe Island, a UNESCO world biodiversity site. Excursions to these pristine nature reserves include zip-line canopy tours, coffee plantation tours, organic and permaculture farm tours, waterfall hikes, night lava viewing, and horseback riding.
If you would like to get out onto the ocean to fish, explore beaches, or visit villages to the north or the colorful beach town of San Juan Del Sur to the south, there are a number of boat-trip options.
They also offer tours to the Spanish colonial city of Granada, zip-line canopy tours in San Juan del Sur and turtle and dolphin/whale watching out on the water and in La Flor National Pacific Reserve. Excursions in our own special part of Nicaragua include hiking up the ‘Pie de Gigante’ sea cliff for stunning views and an exciting rappelling adventure, as well as mangrove bird watching and traditional fishing instruction.
Fishing off the coast of Nicaragua is among the best you’ll find for two reasons: commercial fishing in Nicaragua is on a very small scale, which leaves plenty of fish for sports fishermen, and though also small, Nicaragua has a skilled sport‐fishing industry.
They can send you out in a sonar‐equipped, center‐console fishing boat with powerful outboard engines, stocked with cold beer and snacks and manned by a salty captain and fishing guide who are experienced with local types of fish, seasonality, tackle required and where to catch a big one. They are also happy to teach you traditional fishing techniques, such as surf‐casting, hand spearing, lobstering, sardine, and shrimp fishing with small nets and traditional jigging with hand‐rigged Nica fishing boards.
Guests at Aqua have returned triumphantly from their fishing trips with king mackerel, barracuda, red snapper, amberjack, mahi‐mahi, blue‐fin tuna, yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, snook and many other species - all caught in offshore waters. The chef is always happy to cook your catch for your lunch or dinner. If you would like to spend a whole day at sea, a deep‐sea fishing (catch‐and‐release only) for swordfish, marlin, and shark is recommended.
They also can arrange fishing trips to Lake Nicaragua and the Rio San Juan, where you can catch‐and‐release 100‐pound tarpon. You can also enjoy fishing and spear‐fishing right here in Aqua’s Redonda Bay. Guests are welcome to bring any or all of their own gear / tackle for fishing at Aqua Wellness Resort, though this is not required.
Aqua is proud to partner with Paso Pacifico, a non-profit foundation dedicated to conserving and restoring the natural ecosystem of Nicaragua’s Pacific slope. Together, Aqua and Paso Pacifico are working to preserve Aqua’s natural environment in four areas:
The dry tropical forest surrounding Aqua has been severely degraded as a result of centuries of selective logging, thus shrinking the habitat of indigenous wildlife. They are collecting seeds of trees that are vital to the wildlife, and propagating them in an on-property nursery. They plan to plant 5,000 trees in the forest, to bolster the habitat for the wildlife, and to offset the resort’s carbon footprint.
As you will see and hear - the trees at Aqua are home to dozens of howler monkeys, a primate thought to have the loudest voice of any mammal its size. The howlers, along with endangered spider monkeys, are integral in seed dispersal and the health of the forest. They are preserving and reforesting the monkeys’ habitat, making certain they have an adequate natural food supply, and monitoring their well-being.
Of the many tropical birds that nest at Aqua, the yellow-naped Amazon parrot is among the most beautiful and most endangered. They are monitoring the parrots’ habits, health, and habitat - and placing artificial nests for them in trees out of harms’ way from poachers.
Aqua’s white-sand beach is an important nesting site for four endangered species of Pacific sea turtles - olive ridely, green, hawksbill, and leatherback. They are tagging and monitoring these turtles to safeguard their nesting sites and to protect them from poaching.
Walk, ride, or boat to surf in both directions. Aqua is within a five to 20-minute boat ride from the most famous surf breaks in Nicaragua - home to ISA surfing championships - so it’s great for guests who want to surf during their stay. Aqua is ideal for guests who come to Nicaragua for a laid-back surfing holiday in barefoot luxury comfort.
Surfing in Nicaragua, you won’t need a wetsuit, ever, as the water temperature ranges from 75-82 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. You can longboard, shortboard, or SUP at any of the breaks, with the biggest swells between May and November, but thanks to the unique-to-Nicaragua Lake Nicaragua effect the beaches near Aqua enjoy 300 days a year of off-shore winds for great surfing, in glassy conditions.
Aqua Wellness Resort sits on a white‐sand beach on Redonda Bay, a perfect half‐moon‐shaped cove that is backed by dramatic rock cliffs.
In Spanish, “redonda” means round, and the name comes from the two points of rock that jut into the sea at either end of the bay, creating one of the most protected swimming beaches on Nicaragua’s Pacific coast. In fact, Aqua’s beach was recently named one of the best in Latin America. The beach is superb for body surfing, snorkeling, kayaking, stand‐up paddle boarding, paddle‐board fishing, swimming for all ages, building sand castles or just plain lounging.
Though all beaches in Nicaragua are public, due to its limited accessibility, our beach is de‐facto private. Aqua’s staff keeps it immaculately clean and protects the turtles that come ashore to lay eggs. On a moon‐lit night, there is no better beach for a stroll or a swim, especially on nights when the bioluminescent algae shimmer silver in the water.
Aqua guests are welcome to the available complimentary use of water‐sports gear, including snorkels and fins, kayaks, boogie boards, and stand‐up paddle boards. They also offer instructions in surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, snorkeling, and traditional Nicaraguan fishing techniques for an additional charge.
You can book spa treatments for an additional price. Spa treatments range from pedicures, facials and massages, to signature treatments that utilize organic local ingredients. Among the most popular signature treatments at Aqua are:
A scrub using Nicaraguan cocoa beans, yogurt, and honey, which leaves the skin feeling as soft as silk.
Named for one of Nicaragua’s many volcanoes.
Which uses warm volcanic clay.
A scrub using enzyme-rich tropical fruits.
