This is a very unique yoga program designed to introduce people aged 40 and over to the joy and health benefits of a beginner yoga practice. The classes are small, never more than five students. Learn with your peer group. Perhaps you have tried yoga but were not comfortable or could not keep up with a class of young, sexy, body perfect students. Here your peer group will be of middle age and older students of all shapes, sizes, and level of flexibility. You will be taught by a 76-year man who started learning yoga at age 50 and his wife who is a certified yoga teacher from Nepal. You will be staying at Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat in Pokhara, Nepal. The building is a four-story brand new building. Guests occupy the ground and the first floor. Kitchen and sitting room and yoga sala are on the ground floor, the hosts' personal bedroom and three guest bedrooms are on the first floor, one bath room are on each floor, and hot shower is on the first floor. You will have access to the forth floor for amazing 360 degree views of the Annapuna Mount range and valley.

The retreat venue is in a small village like neighborhood, only five homes in a cluster while surrounded by rice fields and the Annapurna foothills. It is amazingly beautiful and quiet. You will be really close to the Seti River Canyon, only 10 minutes to the trail head.

There is bus transportation two minutes away to serve the whole city for 20-50 NPR. Also, taxis are always nearby and one can walk to the Lakeside tourist and Lake Fewa area in forty minutes. It is like you will have the best of both worlds, surrounded by the natural farm country like an island but with the city just a few minutes away.

Rooms

One room called "Mountain View" because it has a view of the mountains that can be seen while guest is in bed, and two rooms simply called Guest room 1 and Guest room 2, both have access to a balcony with mountain view. The rooms have one double bed and one single bed and can accommodate up to 3 persons each. The total capacity is nine people. The rooms are private with shared bathroom and hot shower all year round. If you prefer hotel accommodation, you can book a room at a hotel nearby during the retreat.

Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat also offers an option for people who would like to save money, by sleeping in the yoga sala dormitory style for groups of six pax. They need to have sleeping bags.

Occasionally, Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat will offer a set date for a five night package for 8-15 people if they have at least eight signups. This would involve using the private rooms and the dormitory yoga sala on a first come first serve basis. These fixed date retreats would be set one month ahead. Program

Each morning, you will start the day with a walk into the canyon and a yoga session overlooking the river. Connecting with nature is an important part of your health vacation experience. Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat is in a quiet part of town but only a short walk to the Lakeside district on Lake Fewa where you will find an international array of restaurants, shopping, and social gathering places for dining and dancing.

Pokhara town offers ample adventures: paragliding, trekking, river rafting, biking, swimming, and much more. The skill level is beginner and intermediate with separate sessions for each level. If you are advanced, you may practice on your own at optional times and locations around the retreat grounds.

Typical daily program

  • 06:00 Optional pranayama (breathing practice)
  • 07:00 Drink water upon awakening, green tea prepared with fresh lemon, ginger, and lemongrass
  • 07:30 Go for a guided walk and meditation in the Seti River Canyon
  • 08:30 Morning yoga practice
  • 10:00 Breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt, granola or choice of pancakes, eggs toast coffee or just juice or tea if you prefer
  • 11:15 Yoga theory and philosophy, a time for questions and discussion
  • 13:30 Lunch (a variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals). Free time to relax, get an optional massage or explore the neighborhood and the Seti River canyon
  • 14:30 Afternoon yoga class and yoga as a meditation
  • 18:00 Warm vegetable soup and vegetable salad or traditional Nepali dinner (Dahl Baht)
  • 19:00 Free time
  • 20:30 Group question and answers and meditation
  • 21:30 Tea and cookies, time to sleep

Note

Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat offers an optional session in Pranayama breathing practice at 6 am. Also, they offer acupressure and Swedish style massage at a cost of 10 USD/hr.

What makes Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat's location special is that we are in a neighborhood that is very much like a farm village surrounded by rice fields and the foothills of the Annapurna mountains, and yet they are a short walk, bus trip or taxi to Pokhara cities Lakeside tourist district and all parts of Pokhara City and surrounds.

This allows their guests to experience a village life style and get to know their friendly neighbors and the warm Nepali culture, and also enjoy fine restaurants and nightlife. They are also close to the amazing Seti River canyon, where you can swim most of the year. It is a great place for chilling in nature, watching the eagles catch fish and occasionally seeing hundreds of monkeys passing by on their search for food.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Arrival by bus

From the Kathmandu airport (Tribhuvan International Airport) you can take a bus to Pokhara. The tourist bus costs about 7 USD and the trip is 6 to 8 hours. Happy Healthy Pokhara Retreat recommend Blue Sky bus, it's a beautiful trip.

From the airport or tourist bus station if you have heavy luggage best to take a taxi for about 400 NPR or 4 USD. If you are travelling light you may elect to walk or bus to the retreat. Use your Smart phone to find us on Google Maps or the map on this listing.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 30% of the total price.
  • The deposit is fully refundable if the booking is cancelled up to 7 days before the arrival date.
