Transformative Yoga Retreat UK

January is traditionally a time for making New Year’s resolutions but as you may have experienced, it can be very hard to keep them. If you have failed before, you are not alone. If you want to make this year’s resolutions actually happen, then you will find the retreat workshops to be really helpful. You will stay in your pick of the beautiful en-suite rooms at The Old Rectory. The Old Rectory offers the perfect balance between luxury and homely rustic charm, complete with its own spring, salt water swimming pool, sauna, and a love for everything organic. It really is the perfect place to retreat to. The house and courtyard accommodation sleeps up to 24 adults comfortably with additional accommodation for children or staff.

Set in 5 acres of landscaped gardens and 14 acres of river meadows, it is available to rent and offers luxury self catering in 12 stylish bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms, two receptions rooms, an the elegant dining area seating, and adjacent to a fully equipped kitchen with a large table that seats an additional 10 (good for children). The courtyard includes a private self contained duplex (sleeps 4), a large bedroom with en-suite bathroom, dance barn, table tennis area, gym, and gentleman’s snooker room.

Other facilities include solar-heated salt water swimming pool, infrared sauna, tennis court, croquet lawn, children’s tree house, meadows for camping, Wi-Fi, and helicopter landing area. Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. All of the rooms are very peaceful and some of the rooms are very quiet

By the end of January, statistically, 92% of the people in the UK who have made New Year’s resolutions will have already forsaken them. If part of your commitment for 2018 is to live in a more healthy way, then the format of this retreat will set you off on a great path. It combines the valuable and salubrious experiences of some of the most important healthy living practices: daily exercise, good food, nature time, and fun and positive self-reflection / connection. The retreat begins at 16:00 on Friday and you will conclude on Monday at 13:30 after a departure day brunch.

You do not need to have had any experience in yoga to attend our retreats. In fact, Handsonlife often has complete beginners and seasoned practitioners attending the same retreat and everyone has the time of their lives. All the classes are designed to accommodate all levels.

There will be candlelit dance on Saturday. This is a fun, non-compulsory dance session / moving meditation, to different styles of music in a candlelit studio. No experience is necessary. You don’t have to dance but you reckon your feet will start moving.

Leonie is an Esalen massage bodywork therapist and lifestyle advisor. Her passion for vibrant living has been the cornerstone of her professional development. Leonie has many years of experience participating in and facilitating a wide range of creative events, retreats, and workshops around the world. Learning from gifted and committed teachers and healers, she has accumulated experience in a variety of areas, including a range of healthy eating principles, drama and art therapy, tantra techniques, and moving meditation, such as Gabrielle Roth 5 Rhythms.
Jem Friar
Jem has been running detox and health retreats as the personal detox coach and with his own and various other superb detox retreat companies in the UK and overseas since 2000. Jem has trained in naturopathy, yoga, Qhi Gong, meditation, life coaching, and numerous forms of bodywork including structural re-balancing, Thai massage, sports massage, holistic massage, Indian head massage, Reiki and reconnective energy healing.
Carrie Allcott
Carrie, the in-house cook, cooks with her heart and soul. Handson incredibly fortunate to have Carrie in residence on our retreats. You can literally taste the love in her food! Her work in the culinary arts has taken her on some great adventures from setting up an outdoor organic catering company, overseeing catering for Wild Women groups, Chi Gong camps and movement medicine dance groups to catering in Buckfast Abbey for Zi Zing master healer where they loved the ‘Chi’ in her food. She has worked in the Riverford field kitchen gaining inspiration from Jane Baxter’s passion and expertise.

This retreat will take place at The Old Rectory. It is a large and spacious 19th Century country house situated in the unspoiled North Devon countryside, nestled between Exmoor and Dartmoor.

All of your meals and drinks are provided for the duration of the retreat. Food for the retreat will be simple, sumptuous & cleansing. The meals are all designed to help your body recover from any festive overeating or drinking that you may have done and to re-set your body for a healthier way of eating in the New Year. Each day will begin with a simple, fresh organic juice, as a way of introducing you to the experience and value of daily intermittent fasting. Lunches will be a fresh nourishing soup and salad. The evening meal will be delicious vegetarian fayre.

Handsonlife has created a delicious digestive-boosting, belly-blasting menu that will be prepared by the talented and passionate chef from the freshest ingredients. Every single meal is designed to give you an nutritional lift whilst keeping your blood sugar balanced and metabolism burning brightly. Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores are catered for at every meal. The talented chef can accommodate all dietary needs. Please just make sure you let Handsonlife know beforehand of any dietary requirements you have.

Handsonlife embraces everything in moderation. Whilst Handsonlife does not advocate drinking a lot, if you would like to have a glass of wine with dinner, please feel free (however, on some retreats it won’t be appropriate).
