During this teacher training program, you will be staying at the Gyan Yog Breath Ashram. It is a bright, comfortable and spacious 20 room building with power backup, solar-panel system and Wi-Fi at the reception area. The resort ashram is located at the Rajaji National Park at the outskirts of Rishikesh. It provides a very peaceful and relaxing scenery. The building was newly constructed in January 2019.

The ashram has private, twin sharing and quadruple sharing rooms. Each room has its own bathroom with hot water rain shower, balcony or small terrace, desk, wardrobe and sitting space. All rooms have high ceilings, big windows and lots of natural light coming in.

The yoga hall has a 180-degree panorama view over the National Park, Ganges River and Visthapit residency area. Gyan Yog Breath offer laundry services (washing, drying, ironing) and filtered drinking water facilities. Gyan YogBreath provides bed sheets, pillows, toilet paper, blanket, towels and other basic amenities.

Yoga Teacher Training Curriculum and Syllabus

Hatha Yoga Asana

Yogic postures comprise four hours of the daily schedule. You will be introduced to the various asanas in a systematic manner with a progressively increasing level of difficulty. Once the basics are mastered, asana flows, adjustments and subtle aspects of breath and awareness will be brought into focus. During the training you will:

  • Build up a huge knowledge of postures
  • Increase your strength and flexibility
  • Learn all main asana names in Sanskrit and English
  • Become confident in teaching postures
  • Learn some more advanced postures


You will learn how to adjust asanas and understand how adjustment can deepen your practice. You will cover their benefits, modifications and cautions. We use different props such as bolsters, belts, pillows and blocks to maximize the effect.

Pranayama (breathing techniques)

You will learn techniques to work with vital energy centers in the body with the goal of becoming proficient enough to teach these skills to your students.

Shatkarma (cleansing techniques)

Yogic cleansing practices will be integrated into the daily morning schedule and will work in conjunction with the asana practices.


You will cover a range of meditation techniques that will help build concentration and focus in your daily practice. Techniques include Om chanting, chakra and power of transformation meditation.

Mantras (chanting)

A range of mantras will be taught including the Gayatri Mantra and many more. Find your inner harmony in these sessions.

During your 200-hour yoga teacher training, you will cover:

Teaching Methodology

This class will give you the necessary building blocks to devise your own yoga class. Learn how to motivate your students by teaching inclusively to the range of abilities that you may be faced with.

Yoga teaching practice

Teaching practice is the last practical part of the course. You will:

Emotional blockage treatment

Emotional blockage treatment is a sacred healing therapy that aims to implement emotional freedom, peace and detoxification. Through pressing certain points in your body, accumulated energy blockages are removed and the energy can flow at its maximum again. Accumulated energy blockages result in depression, anxiety and various physical and mental diseases.

This module will help you to free yourself from past pain and repetitive negative thoughts. You will also learn how to give this treatment to others. Gyan Yog Breath believes that a clear mind and a healthy body are the foundation of a happy and peaceful life.

Ashtanga Vinyasa

You will learn the primary Ashtanga sequence, sun salutation variations, jumps, counter-poses and benefits.


The Ayurveda classes cover the Introduction to Ayurveda, Doshas, Gunas, dietary recommendations, health according to Ayurveda, and personal consultation.

Gyan Yog Breath has a partnership with Pankh - the Creativity School, a school for slum children in Rishikesh. The school provides free education to the children. The Yoga Teacher Training students get to create fun yoga workshops for the kids and teach them the secrets of yoga as part of their training program.

The city is divided into two parts by the Ganges River and surrounded by the Himalayan mountains - beautiful scenery. All over Rishikesh, you can find local markets, unique shops and breath-taking views of the holy River and nature.

Rishikesh is 7 hours away from Delhi (by bus) and 40 minutes away from Dehradun Airport (by taxi).

The Ashram is located directly at the Ganges River and National Park at Visthapit Residency which is a few kilometres away from the busy and noisy main market (bazaar). While listening to the birds and nature sounds, you have the opportunity to commit to a true journey within. Enjoy the sunset evening walks along the River and maybe you will be able to spot an elephant as well!

The area is completely safe and people are very friendly. From the ashram, you can walk to the main road and catch a Tuk-Tuk to get to the city centre. It’s only a 15-minute ride. There are lots of shops, ATMs, cafés and restaurants. Every Sunday, Gyan Yog Breath offers a weekend excursion so you get to explore the surroundings as well.

The team of chefs, helpers and staff is very passionate about cooking and love to create delicious meals that nourish body, mind and soul. To the best of their abilities, they have taken extra care using natural, non-toxic ingredients to ensure that daily freshly cooked food is offered. Gyan Yog Breath uses Ayurvedic herbs for easy digestion and avoids too many spices. There will be a variety of veggies, fruits, grains, dhals, soups, chutney and salads.

Two vegetarian or vegan sattvic meals (+ 1 Fruit Meal) will be provided during your complete stay at the ashram from Monday to Saturday. Meals will also be provided without any additional charges on Sunday, with prior notice.

Meat, eggs and fish are not allowed at the ashram. All meals are prepared with much care and love.

When you’re in the mood to watch a movie (Bollywood or any other), you are welcome to join the Saturday-movie nights. At Gyan Yog Breath, they play nice movies and sometimes also yoga documentaries.


A really fun part about Rishikesh is having many shops, stalls, and stores. If you have time on Sundays, go wander around to the Laxman Jhula Area for a bit and see what you can find. There are lots of fun clothing to buy like pants, shirts, shawls, and scarves. Some other items that are available in the nearby markets include candles, yoga gear, natural or Ayurvedic beauty and personal care products, religious items, healthy food, snacks, and much more.


There are lots of activities available in Rishikesh like rafting, safari, trekking, or visits to spiritual sites / temples nearby. You can plan some fun stuff during your holidays (Sundays). During the training, there will be one included excursion.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane:

Please book your flight to arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), from where you can take a domestic flight to Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun (DED). The price of the ticket ranges depending on when you book it, but it’s usually around 30-70 USD. Upon arrival, you can use a complimentary taxi ride that takes you from Dehradun airport to the Gyan Yog Breath Ashram.

Arrival by taxi

Alternatively, you can also hire a private car to take you from Delhi to Rishikesh (6-7 hour ride). The cost is 5000 INR. Gyan Yog Breath will be pleased to organize a safe taxi for you. The taxi driver will hold a sign with your Name up at your arrival Gate in Delhi.

Arrival by bus:

The Volvo buses from Delhi to Rishikesh stop running around 21:00. If your plane arrives in Delhi in the evening, you will have to get a hotel for the night and then make your way to Delhi ISBT (inter-state bus terminus) in the morning. From the airport, you can get a prepaid taxi to take you to Delhi ISBT. The price from the Delhi airport to Delhi ISBT will be 5000 INR.

Once you arrive at Delhi ISBT, navigate your way to the bus station’s ticket stands, on the second level (go up the escalator). Go to the Uttarakhand State booth and ask when the next Volvo bus will be leaving for Rishikesh. The bus ticket approximately costs between 300 to 400 INR.

Once you arrive at Rishikesh bus station, find an auto rickshaw (tuk-tuk) to take you to the ashram at Rishikesh, Visthapit, Nearby Redford International School.
