" have experienced 4 wonderful retreats at Griffin's Hill, ranging from 5 to 7 days. Each one has renewed and strengthened my practice and I always come away with a new project to work on! Frank is a fantastic teacher- very caring and perceptive of what your body needs and also very exacting in the most gentle, humorous way! Jane's cooking is absolutely delicious- she works magic in that kitchen. Little Clara, the cardigan corgi, is a bundle of mischief and fun. A beautiful place for everyone. I will be back many times m"

"Frank and Jane thank you again for an amazing five days. Frank, you are a truly empathic teacher and Jane, your food and garden are as nourishing as the yoga. Being able to sit on your verandah and stare at the mountains (or better yet walk on them) is a perfect way to reflect on the learnings from the yoga and digest the delicious meals. I encourage everyone to treat themselves to this amazing experience."

"Apart from the yoga sessions there are splendid surroundings to explore on foot or to appreciate from a more relaxed position. Inside the Griffins Hill homestead, a sense of light and space pervades, and the guest-rooms far surpassed my humbly yogic expectations. Much has been written about the excellent food provided - I can only agree wholeheartedly with every word - and look forward to my next visit. Thank you Jane and Frank!"

"First time and certainly not the last. Jane and Frank made us all feel very welcoming in their comfortable cozy home. Janes food was nurturing, healthy, creative, and freshly picked from her garden daily. I could turn vegetarian. In my opinion, Jane' s meals could easily beat any top class restaurant. The food sustained me. And gave me the energy to stretch, lengthen, and extend in franks yoga sessions. Frank re ignited my love, respect, and passion for Iyengar. He matched all levels and provided lots of one on one attention and opportunities to improve and learn more. I had five days of mindfulness, mindful eating, mindful movement."

"The five day winter yoga retreat at Griffins Hill I have just returned from was a delight for the senses. Views, birdlife, walks, abseiling and the friendly local community and unique stores of Dunkeld were wonderful. But above all, the yoga and food were incredible. Frank's yoga instruction was encouraging and motivating, allowing for many different levels of capability. He was also full of good humor and absolutely inspiring to learn from. Jane's vegetable garden is incredible and her food was divine and innovative. Her ability to calmly prepare and cook consistently magnificent food for so many guests was really admirable. The location of Griffins Hill is so picturesque, and with the warmth of a lovely fire place and delightful company of dog Clara, it was a very comfortable home away from home, particularly in the middle of winter. I can't wait to go back. "

"I have just returned from a two day retreat at Griffin Hill. It was the first time that I had done any yoga or been to anything like this however, after this weekend I know that I will be going back to Dunkeld and Griffin Hill again. Frank is an amazing yoga teacher and was encouraging and supportive and gave me lots of confidence to really give yoga a go. Jane's cooking was some of the best vegetarian food that I have ever tasted and having been a vegetarian for 27 years, I have tried a lot! Both Jane and Frank were friendly and extremely hospitable and felt like family and the accommodation was beautiful. Even Clara the family dog made you feel welcome. Thank you, thank you, and thank you."

  • Review by David S. from Queensland, Australia

"I have greatly enjoyed three visits to Griffins Hill Yoga Retreat over the past four years. 2014 has provided an opportunity to once again revitalize my body and mind in a place both familiar and ever changing. The setting of the comfortable modern homestead with its well equipped yoga studio in the shadow of Mr. Sturgeon and Mt. Abrupt makes this place unique and quite spectacular. My hosts, Jane and Frank consistently provide warm efficient hospitality, a personal exercise program and massage to suit my ageing but willing body. Frank, an Iyengar yoga master of over twenty years experience is both gentle and knowledgeable, imparting appropriate individualized instruction to each student in the group. His inclusive teaching techniques and warm sense of humor assures everyone gains from every working session. The food, skillfully prepared from the large kitchen garden by Jane, a fabulous organic vegetarian cook is ever memorable and an integral part of the Griffin Hill experience. Her skill and artistry of preparing and combining extremely fresh produce with top quality tofu, nuts and yoghurt, provides an ever-changing menu of blissful vegetarian tucker. Franks lovingly made sourdough bread is an additional treat not to be missed at every meal. With its five star accommodation, Griffins Hill remains a gracious home away from home for me and I am both renewed and inspired by my retreats to this wonderfully hospitable and friendly rural sanctuary."

"I have just returned from five day at the beautiful Griffins Hill Retreat along with around 10 other like-minded yogis and yoginis from various states in Australia. Frank Jesse is an extremely talented Iyengar teacher with a gentle but strong approach to his teaching style. We all loved the energy of his classes and always looked forward to the next one. Jane Gibb is just a whiz in the kitchen and the delicious meals served to us each day left us in awe of her talents. All meals were prepared with such detail and care that we often sat at the bench just to sit and watch her culinary skills, hoping we some of her skills might rub off on us. Home grown food and freshly baked bread were two of the highlights for us each day after our early morning yoga practice. Sitting on the balcony overlooking a magnificent terrain was a wonderful way to bring in 2014. Thanks again Frank and Jane - well done on living your dream and for sharing it with those who are lucky enough to have found your little piece of paradise."

"After looking for a yoga retreat that we could drive to (from Adelaide) we found Griffins Hill and stayed for a two day retreat, October 11 to13. We can't recommend it highly enough. Frank is one of the best Iyenga yoga teachers I have come across and Jane is the most fabulous cook continually providing variety of delicious organic vegetarian dishes. The accommodation makes you feel so comfortable and relaxed in beautiful surroundings with the Grampians a majestic backdrop. We loved that the groups are not huge and there is time for individual attention. Apart from the fabulous food, the wonderful yoga sessions and a great massage, we also managed to fit in an exhilarating hike up one of the mountains between morning and afternoon yoga on Saturday. And a three hour yoga session on the Sunday was surprisingly (for me) rejuvenating. The whole weekend was inspiring and uplifting and we are keen to do a five day retreat next year. Thanks Frank and Jane."

"I've been to the Griffin's Hill five day retreat twice now and both times have returned home feeling stronger and rejuvenated. Frank's yoga classes have a warm, personal approach. His 20 years of yoga teaching experience are evident in the way he is able to make adjustments so that the pose works for each individual body, regardless of its quirks or flexibility level. Jane's meals, made from her home-grown vegetables and accompanied by Frank's sourdough bread, are absolutely delicious. If forced to pick one favorite dish, I'd nominate the homemade ice cream that began life as fruit on the mulberry tree down the road. Everything left me scraping my plate and licking my lips with satisfaction, but my sweet tooth is still remembering that ice cream one month later! In the breaks between yoga practice and meals, it's lovely to read a book in front of the fire, look out across to the imposing Mount Sturgeon and Mount Abrupt as you compare sore muscles with fellow classmates, or to don boots and hike up past the mobs of kangaroos into the bush. If you are looking to take a break from the hustle bustle of everyday life, and would like to develop your knowledge of Iyengar yoga, do your mind, body, and stomach a favor and book yourself in to a Griffins Hill retreat!"

"I have been coming to visit Griffins Hill for a few years now and it is always a transformative experience. Frank is a world class yoga teacher and his classes are always full of laughter. Jane grows her and prepares her own delicious meals which leave you glowing with health and energy. If you are ever feeling tired or beleaguered, give yourself the gift of a few days here: it will restore your spirits and set you on the path to a healthier life. Highly recommended!"
