Itinerary

Day 1: Lima

Arrive in Lima at any time to explore colorful architecture in this famous city on the coast of Peru. Transfer from Lima airport and we begin the tour with a welcome evening dinner and group briefing.

Day 2: Cusco

Wake up early for a morning flight to the Incan capital of Cusco and step into Perus rich historical past where the modern world meets ancient civilization. Enjoy an afternoon walking tour with a local guide and experience the cobble stone steps of this small city. The tour takes you through an artists quarter and a stroll through the Sun Temple located a short distance from the town center and other highlights found in this unique city.

Optional activities and wellness therapies are available after the city tour or just spend your day relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of the sparkling city. The afternoon will offer a light yoga class to acclimatize to the astounding height of 3200 meters with a focus on breath and relaxation as you take your first steps in the Andes.

Day 3 - 5: Sacred Valley

After a morning yoga class, begin a journey into the Sacred Valley and visit some local sights along the way to inspire and connect with the colorful serenity of the Andean landscape. Visit Moray and Maras, two culturally significant sites offering insight into pre-Inca culture, as well as providing the backdrop to some amazing photos.

The last stop en-route to your location for three nights in the Sacred Valley will be participation in a traditional Quechua offering ceremony to mother earth to pay homage to the ancient Andean tradition of gratitude and blessings.

Arrive at your location in Urubamba for days filled with morning and evening yoga classes to center yourselves in the serenity of the Sacred Valley landscape and natural peace.

Enjoy daily guided tours, optional activities, and choose from a variety of wellness therapies available in your free time and relax in this Andean oasis. The yoga classes will focus on breathing and relaxation to adjust to the high mountain altitude to stretch and strengthen with stunning mountain views and calm sweeping horizons of Andean bliss in the town of Urubumba.

The tour travels through the Sacred Valley to the community of Amaru to learn about Andean life and visits a community based initiative of traditional weaving techniques and for a shared lunch with the owners of the project. Explore the Pisac ruins which are some of the finest and largest in the entire valley and shop in the Pisac market for some local handicrafts and souvenirs of the region.

Evening yoga classes are on the menu after the full day tours to wind down and connect with your breath and surrender the senses to the serenity of the Sacred Valley and the beauty of the days activities. Enjoy healthy meals included on this part of the journey highlighting delicious local food of the region and relax with your feet up under the Andean stars and the night skies.

Day 6: Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes

Wake up and salute the sun in the Sacred Valley with an early morning yoga class before a local visit and guided tour of the ruins in the town of Ollantaytambo, the only still-functioning city laid out to its original Inca design. Visit the archaeological site and enjoy a local lunch with time to wander the narrow streets lined with water channels that have been flowing since the time of the Inca.

The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning. The town is divided in canchas (blocks) which are almost entirely intact. Each cancha has only one entrance (usually a huge stone doorway) which leads into a central courtyard. Spend the afternoon walking around this historically rich town with great views and a significant part of Incan culture.

In the afternoon, take a train to the town of Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu, the heartland of the Sacred Valley for your early morning visit. Youll spend the night at this small mountain town before the visit to the famous Incan ruins.

Day 7 - 8: Machu Picchu and Cusco

Rise with the sun and journey up the hill to Machu Picchu for a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel. Enjoy some free time to walk around, to climb to the Sungate, experience spectacular views of the many valleys or visit the impressive Inca Bridge. Return to Aguas Calientes and take an afternoon train to the city of Cusco arriving in the evening.

Enjoy a free day in Cusco and wake up to the comfort of this charming colonial city with a yoga class to start the days activities to connect and center yourself in Perus most magical city. Choose from optional activities such as a city tour, souvenir shopping, optional massages, or participate in local workshops such as a cooking or chocolate-making class to dabble into some cultural delights. Meet with the group in the evening to enjoy an evening meal in one of the cities selection of cultural restaurants and discover the rest of the tour highlights and travel to Puno the following day.

Day 9 - 10: Puno and Lake Titicaca

Travel overland from Cusco to Puno on a days journey visiting local sites along the way such as local churches, the impressive Inca site of Raqchi, and the village of Pukara, famous for its pre-Inca culture and ceramic bulls that adorn the roofs of many homes in the highlands.

Spend the next two nights on the shores of Lake Titicaca in a charming guest house with sublime views of the water and peaceful surrounding horizons for relaxing evenings. Your first evening yoga class will welcome you to the heights of this spectacular region with a focus on breath and gentle stretching, preparing you for the daily tours ahead.

At 13500 feet, Lake Titicaca is the worlds highest commercially navigable body of water. The Incas believed it was the cradle of civilization - the place where all life began. Its a very special place dotted with islands that have unique living cultures and traditions, two of which youll visit today, the famous manmade floating Uros Reed Islands, and Taquile Island, a UNESCO world heritage site, recognized for their intricate weaving and knitting techniques.

Visiting this island is like stepping back in time as only recently running water was brought to the island and few have electricity and solar powered generators. Explore this ancient culture and landscape and learn about the age-old traditions of the islanders who have lived by this sacred lake for centuries. Enjoy a fresh trout lunch with a local family and hike the island taking in the amazing panoramic views on all sides.

Evening yoga classes will wind down the day tours and practice gentle asanas and relaxation on the shores of one of the largest, highest, and deepest lakes in the world.

Day 11: Lima

Today, you will be picked up and transferred to airport in Juliaca, a little over an hour away, for your flight back to Lima where the tour ends. "I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing pace of the tour and doing yoga twice a day is a treat! I enjoyed the yoga classes with a routine and also allowing to explore more advanced postures. The meals were excellent and the cooks tried very hard to accommodate the vegetarians. We really enjoyed the Beach House, it had everything we needed and was clean, the location was great!"

The pick up at my hostel, the yoga at the beautiful parque lage, the dinner at a delicious vegetarian restaurant and sunset at Sugarloaf was just perfect! It's a nice way to discover Rio from a different side. "

"I attended the six days yoga retreat in Ilha Grande and everything about this trip exceeded my expectations. It was simply one of the best experiences I've ever had. Tara, the organizer, made everyone so at ease and the trip was very well planed. Luciana, the yoga teacher, was really hands on and her Thai massage session was something out of this world.Everyone in the group seems to have instantly got on so well and have shared exceptional meals together with lots of laughter. It was in an absolutely gorgeous setting and the owners and the staff were really lovely too. The view from the pousada was completely breathtaking. We had about two-hour yoga sessions in the morning and in the evening at the beautiful yoga studio, over-hearing the sound of nature and gentle waves.Tara even looked after us when we got back to Rio after the retreat. I very much appreciate her personalized touch in her tour organization and we had lots of fun together! I would definitely recommend retreats with Green Stone Journeys to anyone and would certainly love to go myself for another adventure with them in the future!"

"I found myself traveling to Brazil for business and fortunately was able to take an extra week to spend in Rio de Janerio in October 2013 (the selection below did not allow me to go back that far). I found Green Stone Journeys online and was able to work with Tara to create an individualized itinerary. In short, the whole trip was AMAZING and extremely reasonably priced. I spent time in both Rio and Paraty which was perfect for the week. All the accommodations were excellent. I started every morning with yoga and I cannot say enough about both Daniel and Arianna as yoga teachers. While in Paraty, Wado was my guide and he was full of so much positive energy and life stories. Tara and Daniel were my primary guides while in Rio and though I was traveling alone, I felt like I was with a friend for much of the trip. In summary, it was a life changing adventure and I would highly recommend Green Stone Journeys! I can't wait to book another adventure with them."

"From the moment I spoke to Green Stone Journeys, I knew that my personal journey with them was going to be fantastic and I couldn't have been more right! I wanted more than just a day, so they were able to customize a 10-day experience for me. Everything was arranged for me from the moment that I stepped off the plane in Rio. From accommodation to transportation, tour guides and yoga teachers, I couldn't have been more pleased.Everyone was very professional, had great local knowledge, and paid attention to all of the small details that make a trip special. Part of my experience was a day tour in Rio that started with yoga in Parque Lage, then a trip to Sugar Loaf Mountain, lunch, and a final stop for the best acai that I've ever tasted. I left relaxed, refreshed, and feeling like I had a community of new friends. I couldn't recommend this tour experience more highly!!"

"This tour was great, so unique and original, I was in Rio with my friend and we wanted to do something different and we found out about this tour it was perfect! We met with the yoga teacher in the morning, and did some very relaxing yoga in Parque Lage and we were able to walk around and just enjoy this beautiful place in the middle of the city for awhile and soak it all in. The yoga class was really calming in the beautiful park and it felt good to have great instruction because we have only done a little bit of yoga. It was great to hear her stories about Rio and all the tidbits she had to offer too. We then went for a really delicious lunch, vegetarian with so many options and it seemed to have many locals and not so many tourists so it felt like a real hideaway place. Then we went up to the Sugar Loaf mountain, and what a sunset! It really was a perfect day and tour and enjoying Rio in this relaxed way really made it special by the end of it all. Thanks so much for a great tour Green Stone Journeys! and we really recommend it if you are looking for something different and with a great yoga teacher who knew how to take care of us along the way!"

"The yoga teacher was great she quickly gaged our levels of experience and went at the perfect pace to ensure we felt comfortable. She was friendly, approachable, and very calming with her instructions. The beach house was lovely. Spacious, clean, well kept and presented. The air-con worked well and the rooms/bathrooms were cleaned daily which added to the holiday/hotel feel, which was appreciated. The cook was brilliant and the quality and quantity of food was first class and we definitely never went hungry! They made a lot of effort in checking which dish we may like for the evening meal and ensured we had bottled water and fresh juice in the morning. The group of people on the tour really made it special for me. It was so nice to go away as a solo traveler and come away feeling like you had made a whole new group of friends! I really enjoyed the conversations about life, cultures and learning about Brazil. I will never forget the beauty of the island the sounds, sights and how it made me feel emotionally. I was able to forget about everything back home and just be! The whole experience was brilliant it really was a journey of discovery!"

"The experience with Green Stone was fabulous. This tour was a good mix between discovering amazing places with friendly guides and discovering by yourself. All the yoga teachers I met during this experience were highly qualified and offered a practice that gave me the opportunity to get in touch with my own body and to release tensions in some specific areas. An amazing masseuse also allowed me to heal a chronic pain I was suffering from during several months. What else can I say? Everything flew, everything was perfect and made this Brazilian experience unique."

"As a custom tour experience with GSJ, the programs were adjusted for my preference and for weather, and it felt like I had someone to help me personally organize the things I wanted to do and accompany me along the way. The most I enjoyed about my experience were the yoga sessions. All of the instructors were fantastic and have inspired me to reignite my practice long term. I cant say enough about how amazing the sessions were. The local guide was also very knowledgeable and friendly and locations were beautiful with great breakfasts. The optional massages were also fantastic, it seems GSJ knows how to find all the best people! I would recommend GSJ tours and travel with them again."

"Our tour had a fantastic setting and location and Im amazed by the place and hope to be back again. The place was extremely friendly and the food was incredible. The yoga teacher, S, looked after our needs and wishes and planned the classes accordingly. Both her and the classes were perfect. S was really good at thinking about our needs in terms of what our bodies were able to do and adjusted the yoga practice to it. Also it was a pleasure being around her for the tour, she has a really nice and loving personality."
