Perfect for couples, the tent hut doubles feature one double bed and are comfortably furnished with a nightstand, closet, bedside lamp, and electrical outlet, with towels provided. Shared bathrooms are a short walk away.

Tent space

Pitch your tent near the beach, the bay, or amongst the palm trees in the garden and create your own private space in the ashram. Bring your own tent, camping gear, mattress, bedding and towels. You are welcome to bring a tent up to a size of 10 x 10.

Tent hut single

For those seeking solitude, the garden room singles feature one single bed and provide simple furnishings, including shelves and hooks for clothing and personal items, and air conditioning. Situated in various locations throughout the ashram, including the main building, shared bathrooms are a short walk away.

Beachfront deluxe suite

Enjoy breathtaking views of the ocean from your own spacious, private balcony. The luxurious beachfront deluxe suites are furnished with two double beds and include a private bathroom with tub and shower, a kitchenette (no stove), and air-conditioning. These rooms are available for reservations of two or more persons only.

Oceanview deluxe room

Welcome to the newest room, set in a palm tree grove with ocean views from a private balcony. This beautifully appointed room with contemporary design features a king-sized bed or two extra-large twin beds and includes a private bathroom with tub and shower, a kitchenette (no stove), a closet, desk, and rocking chair, and is fully air-conditioned. This room is available for reservations of two or more people only.

The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat is located across the bay from Nassau, Bahamas, on one of the finest beaches in the world. It is truly an island paradise and a sanctuary of peace and natural beauty. With its pristine white sand beaches, crystal blue waters, and five and a half acres of lush tropical gardens, the retreat provides the ideal environment for practice, rest, and rejuvenation. With its celebrated lineage of yogic masters, the retreat offers a rare combination of a traditional ashram with the feel of a Caribbean resort.

Your course schedule has been designed by the presenter to provide a holistic educational experience, and includes course presentation time, meal times, and free time for you to enjoy the beach and the grounds and participate in the ashram daily programs.

This cleanse is designed to improve metabolism and digestion, cleanse internal organs, reduce inflammation, increase energy, recalibrate the taste buds, reset the appetite, educate, inspire, and clear the mind. Guided by an experienced health professional within the ashrams supportive and relaxing environment, you will have the opportunity to focus on healing and learning without distractions. Youll also take home practical tips, tools and recipes to implement a healthy lifestyle.

Morning and evening satsang are sessions for community gatherings for meditation, chanting and teaching; sometimes a silent beach walk. Yoga asana and pranayama classes are available on outdoor ocean and bay front platforms (beginner and intermediate levels offered twice daily).


During satsang, everyone will come together as a community for meditation, chanting, daily prayers, and spiritual learning. At the yoga retreat, morning satsangs feature senior ashram staff and spiritual leaders as well as visiting teachers and guides from Sivananda ashrams and centers worldwide. In the evening, students enjoy a diversity of special programs, festivals, concerts, and symposia with distinguished guest presenters offered each night.

Seasonal information

The Bahamas is a year-round destination, with 300 days of sunshine a year. Average temperatures in the summer run 80 to 90 degrees (27 to 32 Celsius) and 70 to 90 (21 to 27 Celsius) in the winter.

Mobile / communication information

If your cellular plan includes international calling, your phone should work, but please inquire with your phone company before using to avoid incurring international roaming charges. As the ashram offers free Wi-Fi, guests with Wi-Fi calling and Skype on their cell phones should be able to make calls through these services. Skype phones are also offered, so guests can make calls from these phones using their own Skype accounts.

Dressing information

For Satsang in the temple, please bring clean, light colored clothing - not jeans or work clothes. Because this is a traditional ashram, clothing should be modest, covering both the shoulders and the knees.

What to bring

Casual comfortable clothes, yoga mat, meditation cushion, meditation shawl, toiletries, slip-on sandals, clothing for warm days and cool mornings / evenings, rainwear, flashlight, insect repellent, alarm clock, travel mug / tumbler, water bottle, sunscreen, beach towel and bathing suit, snorkeling equipment.

Extension options

It is recommended to spend at least a few days in the retreat before the start of any course. This will allow your body and mind time to rest, re-energize, and be nourished by the ashram environment. You can then begin your studies feeling relaxed and refreshed. You may also wish to stay for a few days after the completion of the course to allow the teachings you have received to integrate more fully into your consciousness within the supportive environment of the ashram. If your schedule does not allow an extended stay, course participants have found it useful to arrive at the retreat at least one day before the start of the course and to leave at least one day after the graduation. If you decide to arrive early and stay longer, please register for the yoga vacation program for those additional days.

Travel assistance

The ashram boat provides service to Nassau on an hourly basis.

Passport / visa

The Bahamas is an independent country and you will need a passport to travel here. Most citizens from the US, Canada, and European countries do not need a visa to visit the Bahamas. You can verify whether you require a visa to enter the Bahamas at the Bahamas website or by contacting your local Bahamian Consulate.

Grace Van Berkum

Grace Van Berkum is a registered holistic nutritionist, Sivananda yoga teacher, certified personal trainer, and founder of Gracious Living Retreats which are well-known for their anti-allergen, anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, and delicious menus. She brings her passion for plant-based whole foods that have healed her own health problems, and healed her dad's cancer, into everything she does. She believes that being truly spiritual begins with connecting to food from the earth to increase prana and elevate consciousness.

All meals are anti-inflammatory and free of wheat, gluten, sugar, dairy, and soy. The yogic diet is a vegetarian diet that is conducive to the practice of yoga and progress in spiritual life. It draws on a balance of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, milk products, legumes, and nuts and seeds, in both raw and cooked forms. Based on the ancient science of Ayurveda, a yogic diet promotes health and balance, reduces stress, and increases vitality, energy, and joy in your life.

Two buffet-style lacto-vegetarian meals are served at the ashram daily, at 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., prepared with love and care according to yogic dietary principles. Both brunch and dinner offer nourishing vegetable, grain, or bean dishes as well as hearty soups. Brunch also includes delicious fruit, homemade granola, or freshly made yogurt.

Raw fixings to make your own salad are offered at both meals, as well as their own baked bread. You are also welcome to enjoy a cup of the daily herbal tea selection. Enjoy your meal by the ocean, in the tropical gardens, or in the main dining area amongst other yogis staying at the ashram.

    "I am new to this type of lifestyle and unfortunately, waited until I was diagnosed with cancer to start eating healthy and reading all of the benefits of incorporating a raw, veggie, and vegan diet. I am on day two and so far so good. Food is delicious and there are so many varieties of preparation that I cannot see getting bored with the food choices. The most important component of eating healthy is ridding your cupboards of all the processed not so healthy foods and having an ample supply of what you should be eating. This way you are not tempted to resort back to back eating habits. I met Grace during her visit to M.D. Anderson in Orlando, Florida where she spent several weeks offering classes to patients, families, and team members on eating healthy.     "I recently stayed in Nicaragua for ten days and participated in a yoga and raw foods retreat facilitated by Aquas resident yogini Grace Van Berkum. Everyday, Grace led a glorious Hatha yoga class appropriate for all levels, and afterwards made us delicious smoothies to sip at the beachside bar. She also led a variety of hands on raw foods seminars where we learned how to make yummy raw chocolate truffles, macaroons, salad dressings, soups, and salads. She was always available to answer any questions and also led us on a variety of excursions around the area including a boat trip to San Juan Del Sur, a hike to the tallest peak on the beach, surfing lessons at Playa Amarillo, and out for dancing in Playa Gigante. Every part of the retreat was coordinated to perfection! I would absolutely come back to Aqua and do another retreat with Grace!"

    "I stayed in Nicaragua for a week in February and felt completely rejuvenated, relaxed, and inspired. The highlight of my stay was Grace Van Berkums yoga retreat. Grace is a woman who lives her passions and is an incredible teacher. Every morning Grace led Hatha yoga classes, suitable for all levels on the most incredible yoga deck facing the ocean and jungle infused cliffs. It was truly magical. And as I was a complete newbie to yoga, Grace helped me understand the practice and inspired me to want to incorporate yoga into my routine back in the big, busy city in which I live. Grace developed a retreat schedule that was the perfect blend of yoga, raw food seminars, relaxing and discovering. She made me feel completely comfortable. Shes truly a professional. Every second day she led a raw food class where we learned about the benefits of eating raw. We discovered juicing, smoothies, sprouts, salads, deserts, soups, and my favorite chocolate making. She has an incredible way of explaining things so simply that you will leave knowing that you can easily incorporate her recipes into your life. And to have experienced the retreat at Aqua was a pleasure. I would highly recommend a stay at Aqua and without a doubt Graces fantastic retreat."
