We have four beach-front bungalows and a larger two bedroom villa right on the headland with fantastic views of the coastline. Laundry service is available to our guests.

Our detox plan is a structured program designed to help you get the most out of your fast with as few side effects as possible. The program is supervised by our team of experienced therapists who will guide you every step of the way in your healing process.

Some therapies act on a physical level, while others are more emotionally, mentally, and spiritually driven. Some side effects may be a healthy part of your detox journey. Here at the Golden Rock Retreat, we encourage you to deeply cleanse yourself, restore balance, and re-energize your entire body.

All our programs integrate deep internal cleansing using modern technologies including infra red sauna, ozone, and oxygen therapy alongside traditional therapies such as massage, yoga, and meditation. The main detoxification organs are the skin, bowels, liver, kidneys, and lungs.

Our bodies need to eliminate harmful toxins, so anything that is not excreted naturally needs to go somewhere. Please note that our structured detox program is designed to help you get the most out of your fast with as few side effects as possible.

If you choose not to follow our suggested program in terms of activities and supplements, we cannot be held responsible for any aggravated detoxing symptoms such as headaches or nausea. This includes following our pre-detox advice such as cutting down on coffee and alcohol as well as dairy and heavy meats.

Our program involves:

  • Psyllium and bentonite bowel cleanse drink twice a day
  • Papaya and/or coconut water breakfast
  • Raw food salad lunch - may be avoided for stronger cleanses
  • Broth soup tea
  • Magnesium oxide bowel flush
  • Four days nutritional support with Javanese herbal medicine and pro biotics
  • Three massages
  • One reflexology session
  • Four Infra Red Sauna / trampoline and zen chi machine sessions
  • Four bio-magnetic therapy sessions
  • One liver cleanse shake
  • Daily sessions including meditation, yoga and chi gung

Yoga and chi gung

Physical exercise is vital to any cleansing program. A lot of people become toxic due to overly sedentary lifestyles. During your stay at the retreat, you are encouraged to join in twice daily exercise sessions.

Harmonizing the meridians and circulatory systems (blood, lymph, and chi) greatly enhances the bodys ability to detox. Yoga stretching and breathing techniques complement this process. These exercises produce an overall sense of balance and well-being to help your whole cleansing experience.

It will be more enjoyable and rewarding. If you are already a practitioner, please be aware that our regimes, though guided are just simple routines to supplement our fasting program. If you wish to continue your existing regime, you are more than welcome too.

Bio magnetic resonance

This therapy uses subtle pulsing magnetic fields that interact with the energy field of the body. A mat that contains a series of coils produces the magnetic fields that can be increased in strength, frequency, and time period. The magnetic fields are programmed to realign the bodys energy field back into balance.

Re-organizing the bodies subtle energy fields is the equivalent of defragging the hard drive on a computer. Chi Kung and meditation are excellent ways of achieving this, but the bio magnetic mat is an effortless alternative and offers great downtime too.

FAR infrared sauna

A good daily sweat is considered one of the best things you can do for your body according to yoga principles. Bikram yoga is even done in a heated room to maximize the benefits. Arteries dilate, improving blood flow throughout the body and tight or overworked muscles begin to relax.

The production of white blood cells is stimulated, strengthening the immune system and toxins are flushed out through the skins pores. With an infra-red sauna, the air temperature is comfortable enough so you can detoxify comfortably and safely for longer periods and come out feeling stronger, healthier and in better balance.

Medical grade oxygen is used at the same time to promote general well being. A study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis showed a reduction in pain, stiffness, and fatigue during infrared sauna therapy.

Golden Rock Retreats FAR Infra Red Sauna is a wooden cubical that you sit in for your treatments. The sauna has panels that produce heat from infra-red waves. This heat has a deeply penetrating effect, helps with blood circulation and the release of waste products as well toxins deep within the tissue layers.

It also helps with the breakdown of bacteria and viruses, and may inhibit cancer cell production. The sessions last around 15 - 20 minutes each, however in some cases, clients may have two 15 - 20 minute sessions.

Sauna health benefits:

  • Relieving stress
  • Relaxing muscles, soothing aches, and pains
  • Flushing out toxins
  • Cleansing the skin
  • Better sleep
  • Improving cardiovascular performance
  • Burning calories

Diet, environment and cancer link

Many experts now also believe that chemicals in food and the environment in general may be responsible for 80% to 90% of all cancers in humans; the remainder is believed to be caused by radiation or viruses.

Diet also plays an important role here. Studies have shown that people who consume large amounts of saturated fat and meat have a greater risk of developing cancers of the ovaries, breast, colon, kidneys, and prostrate.

Eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables may reduce the risk of certain cancers. Fish, chicken, and tofu are good red meat alternatives. Organic food may also be beneficial as they do not contain pesticides which may be carcinogenic. Obviously, a good detoxification program is vital for disease prevention too.

Vitamins and minerals

Many fruits and vegetables contain a lot less nutrients than they did 40 years ago. For example, broccoli and pineapples now have less than half the calcium. Cauliflower now has 40% less vitamin C and sweet peppers 30% less.

Specialist diets including low-protein, low-carbohydrate, vegetarian, and vegan may contain less of the essential vitamins or minerals that are needed. Research shows that many people do not reach the daily requirement of vitamins and minerals so suffer from minor deficiency symptoms.

Taking a good quality supplement is vital in todays world. All food and drink necessary for your stay and detox program will be provided. If you have specific dietary requirements, please let us know in advance.

  • 4 nights accomodation
  • all treatment and therapies
  • food and drink
  • airport transport
  • Please note there is no TV network, Wi-Fi, or internet access. We feel this is important for our guests to get the most out of their healing process.

Take the road to Amed.

Remember to turn right to Amed in the village of Culik. Youll know you have arrived in Amed by the large Euordive banners everywhere.

After about one kilometer youll come to a bridge, with a small Retreat Bali sign on the left.

500 yards later take right fork in road then almost immediate left up the hill.

Follow the road past Double One Villas, down into the village and out the other side.

Continue for 1/2 km and cross over ford in river.

Continue up a steep hill and go along cliff road for 1/2 km.

Then downhill and right bend into a long bay.

Cross two little dry river fords and an S bend then up a hill.

Next small bay is the village of Aas, where we are, on far side as you go up hill on the left.

    "Yes I had a wonderful time. "

"The place was breathtaking and the staff very helpful. The language was a bit hard to understand sometimes. That was the only down fall. "

"Also when doing meditation would of preferred to quieter place as we could here all the fisherman talking away very hard to concentrate. "

"In all I feel fantastic and so glad I had completed my 10 days and did everything that the programme had asked me to. "

"I will definitely do it again."

"I followed the 7 day rainbow detox. Being my first detox i wasn't sure what to expect. The system at Golden Rock makes it very easy to follow. There is a great mixture of relaxing time , interspersed with exercise so that your days pass very quickly and surprisingly I didn't feel hungry during the fast. The light exercise was a real highlight as it kept your mind and body alert. The fasting leads up to the liver flush which everyone seems to have a different experience of, but once it's over on day 6 it does take a day to recover and then I really felt I wanted to leave on day 7 and not stay the last night. There is a 4 day eating plan to follow after the liver flush so I recommend you have nothing too energetic planned after leaving the retreat to give you time to build up strength again in a controlled way.The staff are professional but as most reviews say you learn most from the other clients who are at the retreat, this didn't bother me as it is always interesting to hear each day how everyone is doing.I have left having lost 4.5 kilos and with great energy I'm the mornings.Recommend Golden Rock for the combination of exercise, detox and no internet connection"

"If you are looking for a life detox then this is the place for you. This is not the place to come for if you want pampering and fluff so to speak. This place is the real deal, buckle down and get ready to transform your life. I am not going to lie its not an easy process cleansing drinking things like garlic water, magnesium drink (which makes you go to the toilet all night and feeling crap) but you know you are getting the results here and you know that your body is having the best internal holiday of its life. The benefits of this place are not only the way you feel when you leave (clear eyes, relaxed, 4 kgs lighter :) (and I am pretty slim) but also your mind gets a cleanse as this place has no wifi so your phone and computer need to be firmly packed away. This is so good to have a mind and body cleanse. The Golden Rock is perched into the cliff near Amed and the views are breath taking. The local villagers mingle around so you get a real experience of local life. All the staff are Balinese and really lovely. Pack a few books as you get time between sessions to have some R & R. This was my second visit and I will be back again :)"

"I've just had an amazing eight-day stay at Golden Rock Retreat. It's tucked away up in the north-east of the island, with the nearest village about 10km away. The retreat itself is built in to a steep hillside leading down to the crystal blue sea. If you're planning a fluffy dressing gown / delicious juices kind of spa retreat, then this is not the place for you. But, if you're looking for a total mind and body cleanse, then I cannot recommend Golden Rock highly enough."

"The location is beautiful. The chalet / bungalows are situated a few metres from the shore and the views are stunning. Every morning, the first thing you see is the early morning sun shimmering on to a calm and tranquil sea dotted with colorful, local fishing boats returning with their catch - a perfect and peaceful start to the day! I did the seven-day Rainbow Cleanse, which comprises of a five day fast followed by two days of fruits and salad. You follow a very structured program which is clearly laid out on a daily timetable delivered with your 07.30 liquid breakfast of ginger tea, hot water and lemon and coconut water. You also have an information pack in your bungalow which clearly explains all the treatments and cleansing liquids you're given throughout your stay. "

"The daily fast and cleanse is interspersed with chi-gung (qigong), yoga and a general exercise program. You also have a daily massage, sauna and herbal steam which are a welcome treat as you get further into the fast. "

"The end of day two and the afternoon of day four were the times when I experienced a bit of a mental "dip." You feel pretty fatigued from the fast (but strangely not hungry at all thanks to the hourly cleansing liquids delivered straight to your bungalow.) But I soon bounced back and by the end of the program I was feeling pretty fabulous - cleansed, totally relaxed, toned and trim (I lost four kilos during my stay, although this wasn't my reason for going.) Even the dreaded liver flush on day five was absolutely fine. I didn't experience any adverse effects and the two coffee enemas? Well, 'nuff said :-) "

"You have to be prepared for having no phone reception or wifi throughout your whole stay. It's clearly stated on the retreat website and the break from email and internet is part of the whole process, so you just have to embrace it. Take plenty of books to chill out by the pool. There's a selection of DVDs on site which you can watch in your bungalow, but I was so tired by about 20.00 during the first few days, I couldn't manage to stay awake and watch them! "

"Yoga-and chi-gung dude Made is a real gem and very patient. Pin (the manager) and the rest of the staff were incredibly gracious and helpful during my stay. It's a real break from reality for a few days and a very worthwhile investment in your wellbeing. Since coming home, I've kept up many of the things I learnt whilst on the retreat and I would love to go back to do another cleanse in a couple of years. It's a long way from London, but definitely worth the trip. I researched a lot of places before booking Golden Rock and especially compared to some of the US-based places, it's great value for money."

"I chose this retreat for a 7 day cleanse since I was looking for a place where you could "just be". I loved it that there was no wifi and my phone had no signal. In case of emergency people can contact you via the resort, or just buy a local sim card if you really want. The place is beautiful, lovely bungalows, comfy beds, clean, lovely helpful staff, nice sea breeze so no air-con needed during the night. Rooms 3 and 4 are located near the village and are a bit more noisy in the morning. It's hardcore detox, inform yourself well on the treatments (for instance the liver flush). Some of the ladies who serve you the drinks/supplements are a bit limited in their English, however for me this was not a "thing", I felt taken care off all the time. If you have any questions Pin is happy to answer them and gives awesome reflexology treatments by the way. The stairs can be an adventure when detoxing, just take it slow and listen to your body.I went through the complete fastening period including the liver flush without any trouble, but if you get really sick, you have to go to Denpasar for a hospital. I loved the pool and watching the fishermen come back from their fishing trip in the morning. Hire a fishing boat and go snorkel at the wooding shipwreck nearby. I enjoyed the retreat very much and would choose it for a next detox trip. Room tip: Choose room 1 or 2 if you are a light sleeper."

"We were lucky enough to get upgraded to the two bedroom deluxe villa on the headland and my advice to anyone going to this retreat would be stay there the extra $500 (10 day program) per person is money well spent and the villa is fantastic with a wonderful southerly breeze and panoramic views, a private pool and two bedrooms and toilets (which believe me is important if you are with your partner and one of you, in this case me, is not dealing with detox very well) beautiful outdoor showers etc.Spend the extra money, no noise from boats early in the morning and you can just do your thing. The only issue I had was the lack of any wifi at the resort anywhere, in this day and age (and at this price point) it's ridiculous to have to hire a motorbike and go 4 kilometers to check your email particularly when you are fasting and just getting up and down the stairs is difficult (I am 43 years old, recently ran a half marathon and there were days when I had to stop on the stairs just from exhaustion). I know the point is to relax and rejuvenate however people do need to stay in touch and it's not realistic to pretend otherwise. There is both cell phone and internet reception at the resort, the 3 network has a strong signal, so if you need to stay in touch get a sim card and a heap of pulsa in Denpasar or wherever and you should be okay, but this needs to be fixed. The liver flush, as others have noted, is not for the faint hearted and I personally found it very difficult and unpleasant. While the juices etc may be adequate for average sized people if you are a big person (tall, muscular, fat or just generally large) you will suffer. First three days, I was hungry and nauseous. Did the liver flush on day 4 (12 hours no water, juice or anything). Was very sick (vomiting, diarrhea, racing heartbeat) for a further 2 days and after that started to improve. If this sounds like fun to you, I couldn't recommend a better place to do it. One comment on the staff, while they are generally helpful and courteous if someone has a resting heartbeat of 120 bpm it is not helpful to suggest they stop drinking cold water. That said, maybe I'm just a big baby as my partner sailed through it with no problems. To sum up, the resort is wonderful but if I was going again I would just get the post liver flush food (vegetables, rice, Tempe and lots of fresh fruit ) and give the liver flush itself a big miss so that I had some energy to enjoy the surrounds more. The lack of any internet is a big issue for anyone needing to monitor work or stay in touch with family and friends, as you will not feel like organizing a motorbike to go 4 kilometers to a restaurant while you are fasting. Room tip: Get the headland deluxe suite. Seriously just do it, you wont be sorry."

"This is not a "resort", never will be. It's a retreat and as such it's not really about the rooms, but I will cover them. The drive from the airport is approx 3.5 hours via Chandidasar, Amlapura and Amed, the retreat is located in Aas approx 12 kms from the nearest townsite. There are a good number of bars restaurants and dive shops on the way with very little close to Golden Rock - awesome, removes all temptation because if you going to the retreat you don't need the distraction. The setting is great, you enter from the road above the retreat and head down a set of very steep uneven height stairs, if you have knee issues, good luck they are not for the feint hearted. I was allocated room 4 at the northern end of the site alongside the fishing shacks, it is a noisy room as the boats dock right at your door and start moving across the rocky shoreline from about 3.45 a.m. for their morning fishing trips. The fisherman and their wives are not quiet, the boats are noisy as they are dragged across the rocks to the water. By 6.30 to 7.30 they are back and the whole family is there to beach the boat and remove the catch.By day 3 I loved it, it's real life, how it's been for hundreds of years. The fisherman have chickens and roosters which crow all night, there are lizards in the roof that bark at odd times (mating season) all part of the scene. It takes a few days to unwind your head and understand what's happening to you without our daily need of TV, Internet, phones etc, and all of the above is actually what's important. So don't be precious, be part of it and you'll get more out of it.The detox is hardcore, no doubt about it, no food for 5 or 8 days depending on your program, lots of yucky juices, potions and lotions, a clear broth and garlic juice for dinner. And no, the juices are not smoothies they are all designed to clean you gastrointestinal tract. The Ozone therapy is interesting lets just say you don't swallow it! The coffee enemas are worth while and the liver cleanse is the climax of the week and worth every bit of time invested to get to it.I went with a goal of losing 4 kilograms but did not make that. I did however get far more than just weight reduction, a clearer mind, a relaxed body massaged everyday in every possible style, the reflexology one is bloody painful at best. The best massage is from Mongju, he's the massage master. All the staff try very hard and are friendly, only too willing to assist in whatever they can for you. If you need to get in touch with home you can buy phone cards and top up your phone, mobiles are not wanted on site and don't work anyway. It is all satellite phone link to the retreat and it does not work perfectly expect drop outs and no lines, warn your family it's not easy to communicate.I did read about the yoga mats not been clean etc, yes you do sweat and yes maybe they do need a scrub, take your own if you want personal hygiene, personally I could not care less it's not a resort people. The first day was a bit daunting and I can only thank the other participants for showing us the ropes, which you will get to do at the end of the week as the guests move through.I met 3 fabulous people and the support and your support for them is invaluable, you do need the interaction. The staff are not particularly good at explaining the program and English is passable but not great. Alan who owns the retreat is there quite a lot and a bit of a laugh, lots of humor and enjoys a quick chat, he will arrange anything you need and does check on your headspace as well. Not a venue for couples I would say, there is quite a bit of ugly stuff going on with your body and there is only 1 toilet per room. I guess most people without food after 4 days do not enjoy each other's company. If you want to use the headland villa as a couple, I suggest you talk to Alan about a couples retreat, he'll fill in the blanks for you.Made is the yoga and chi gung instructor, and whilst he was a bit hard to understand he is patient and very helpful, a really nice man that looks like Bob Marley. The yoga is for beginners and was highly beneficial, the chi gung or tai chi is the same and see how far you come along in just 1 week - fabulous. Thanks for your encouragement Made. Over the course of the week you will feel like skipping a session or two, don't just push on through if you can. The nightly magnesium drink really gave me cramps but I understand the benefit of the cleanse, truly the toilet becomes a good friend! The food, well there isn't any so move along. Don't take too many clothes, 2 sets of gym wear, 2 sets of bathers, some lightweight clothes for I between and a set of clothes to travel in. Books are good to take, there is a small library and a lot of DVDs available as well, you do have a lot of free time but not time to leave site, you don't have a lot of spare energy anyway. Laundry service is part of the cost and was excellent.A couple of minor gripes, some of the staff need a bit more instruction witt KY jelly!"

"The rooms are dated and function well, although I would move the lounge upstairs and have the bed near the bathroom which I spoke to Alan about and he is going to trial. You shack is airconditoned but I never used it, throw the doors open and let the breezes do there thing. Sadly I did have some shorts and shirts go missing from my balcony, I will blame the sea breeze and leave it at that. All in all a great retreat for the body and mind but don't think of going if you expect resort and pampering it's hardcore detox at its best. Room tip: If you want sleep do not have room 4, rooms 1 or 2 are much quieter."

"It is difficult to imagine a more positive experience than the week we spent at Golden Rock. The beauty of the environment, comfort of the facilities and excellence of the program were only exceeded by the exceptional qualities of the staff - professional, gracious, knowledgeable, caring and attentive to every need. We are now reveling in the benefits of what proved to be an extremely worthwhile investment.Room tip: Communicate with the Administrator, Wiwit, who is extremely reliable, responsive and considerate."
