“Ha", meaning sun and “tha”, meaning moon, this style of yoga aims to balance the sun and moon forces in your bodies, ultimately cultivating a clear consciousness within the mind and body. Considered to be the foundation of all yogic asana practices, Hatha yoga is the fundamental root from which you balance body and mind in every practice. Every Hatha Yoga practice begins and ends with a mantra chanting with a core focus during the asanas on breathing (pranayama) and meditation. The poses you see in a Hatha practice are active and strong. Flexibility will also increase during this practice as well as awareness of body and breath.
Ashtanga yoga became popular by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and is an energetic, dynamic practice. During your 100-hour yoga teacher training course, you will learn how your Ashtanga practice connects you back to the ancient roots of the yogic practice of asana. Unlike a lot of popular, Vinyasa style practices you see in modern-day yoga, Ashtanga is the same series of poses practiced in the same order each time and the practices don't involve music.
In this discipline, you’ll learn through the power of breath and meditation to turn your gaze inwards and focus your internal power as you move through this series. Goa Yogashala will teach you the whole primary series, including the rules of sequencing, pranayama, meditation, drishti (focus or eye gaze), mantra chanting, and the bandhas (energy locks).
The only constant in your lives is the breath. Throughout your ever-changing lives, you often encounter triggers that leave your breath irregular and unnatural which can leave you with unhealthy breathing habits, limiting the flow of prana (energy) in the body. Together, you will work to liberate and control the breath through pranayama practices. This is incredibly important to regulate our life force or energy flow. With a regular pranayama practice, which you will learn during your course, you will unblock the breath which will allow you to feel calm, restored, and at peace. You will also work with the breath in asana practice and the importance it holds.
Philosophy classes are an incredibly important part of your yogic journey. It's important to learn yoga, but it’s also important to learn “the why” of yoga. During your time with Goa Yogashala in Goa, you will learn about the chakra system and how to balance yourself, as well as the eight limbs of yoga (Yoga Sutras by Patanjali). Philosophy classes are a wonderful time to share and take part in active discussions with your teacher and classmates to bounce ideas around. It's encouraged so that you can explore how yoga truly begins in your everyday life when you step off the mat and into your day.
Goa Yogashala knows very well the physical practice of yoga asana, and that is why it is also so important to learn the anatomy and physiology of the body in those movements. In your 100-hour yoga teacher training, you will dive into the muscle and bone structure of the body and how it plays its specific part in each movement and pose. Should you choose to go on to teach yoga, this is fundamental in being able to sequence and queue your classes in a safe and effective way. In these lessons, you will learn about bones, muscles, organs, blood vessels, and nerves so that you are able to avoid injury or aid in healing, and which asana will target the right area for yourself or your students.
The importance of adjustments and alignment of the body in a yoga practice are fundamental. Paired with your anatomy classes, Goa Yogashala course will ensure that you are able to conduct your body in asana practice in the safest way, making sure you are aware of the position of each part of your body to avoid stresses and injury.
If you choose to go and pursue yoga teaching in Goa Yogashala 200-hour yoga teacher training course, this is a great base on learning how to adjust students in a safe and caring way. By learning the correct alignment and safest adjustments, you will be able to guide your students to the fullest extent of each pose, ensuring your students grow from each practice with you.

Failure to comply with any of these parameters may result in the school not agreeing to reward the corresponding certificate.
All students are strictly advised to report directly to school authorities in case of any problems, conflicts, or disagreements with fellow classmates, teachers, and other school staff. You are also advised to do so if you face any personal issues. Every scenario will be dealt with the utmost sensitivity and compliance. Goa Yogashala strongly discourages students to take matters into their own hands, responds with violence (verbal or physical), indulges in slandering or gossiping, disrespecting the country’s traditions and values, be hostile towards locals, and the likes. Doing so (irrespective of whose fault it is) will result in strict actions being taken. Consumption of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco (on-campus or off-campus) is strictly prohibited during the course of your training program. Consuming such toxic substances is not only considered counterproductive to your yoga practice but may also result in immediate termination from the program with no refund.
These substances are known to cause harmful effects on the central nervous system and diminish your receptivity to the teachings. Thus, Goa Yogashala strongly encourages you to refrain from any such activities so you can maintain the purity and spirituality of the school atmosphere as well as prevent yourself from causing any harm to your mind and body.
Goa Yogashala reserves the right to dismiss or terminate the practice of a student and ask them to leave the premises immediately if they defy any of the above-mentioned terms and conditions, proves physically harmful to themselves and/or those around them, is found to be mentally or physically unfit to continue with the course, or indulges in any disruptive activity that may hamper the reputation of the school as well as the safety of others.
At Goa Yogashala, their teachers aim at offering individual attention to every participant so they can master every aspect of their training. Thus, they keep their batch-sized compact and personal. While Goa Yogashala keeps only 20 to 25 students per batch for our asana practice classes, theory classes may have more students depending on the topic and the teacher's discretion.
The campus arranges for regular complimentary excursions during the program. These excursions often give our students a chance to experience the local temples, waterfalls, beaches, and other places of importance.
