28 Days 200-Hour TTC in Ladakh, North India

  • Leh, Ladakh, India

Yoga Teacher Training in India

Gaiatree yoga and the Buddhism Mahabodhi centre in Leh/ Ladakh in Northern India organize in 2016 a unique transformative training course for all yoga teachers and those who want like to become one. Our yoga - and meditation centre at an altitude of over 3500 meters in the middle of the Himalayan mountain range is the highest in the world. The low oxygen brings each trainee to its limits. Breathing, pranayama, as an integral part of yoga, here has a deep and practical significance. Practicing the asanas under these extreme conditions helps to a better understanding of yoga and meditation.

The intense 200 hours training in all aspects of yoga (philosophy, asanas, kriyas, pranayama, meditation, mudra, bandha, anatomy and physiology) is the foundation for a practical-methodical teacher training. Our brand new dual training concept includes the teaching from first day onward.

  • Daily intensive practice in pranayama and meditation
  • Twice daily yoga classes to deepen your own practice
  • Participation in various religious highlights (pujas, Satsang, Dalai Lama)
  • Unique yoga experience in the largest yoga centre at this altitude
  • Living in a buddhist community (sangha)

Gaiatree yoga

Gaiatree yoga is based on the roots of Hatha yoga as Maharashi Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, handed down as a condition in which the various movements of our mind come to the unity of us.

In the ancient Indian scriptures Gayatri is also the goddess of learning. The Gayatri mantra knows every Indian child. It is to be integrated in everyday life, includes the recognition of different forms of social and religious life. The Gaiatreeschool Foundation thus provides a bridge between Indian culture and tradition and modernity. Gaiatree yoga is for everyone!

Whether you are sick or weak, young or very old, regardless of their faith and their beliefs, gender, nationality or social origin, you can have success with yoga if you practice diligently. ( Svatmarama - Hatha Yoga Pradipika )

If you are new to yoga, welcome! Yoga can change your life. If you want to learn but already practice yoga more , you probably already know a bit of yoga and it can changing their lives. If you are sick, it can help you to feel better. If you are depressed or anxious, constantly tired, tablets or drug dependent or suffer from pain in the lower back can be in the yoga path improvement hoped for. For people with chronic health problems such as arthritis, diabetes , multiple sclerosis and HIV / AIDS , suffering from high blood - pressure or low - regular yoga practice can help to live better, in all probability, but longer. And the people with transient symptoms - have to do such as tension headaches, hot flashes, stress or sinus pressure in certain yoga postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), learn relaxation, meditation and other practices relief.

In yoga we have a different view of health as a Western medicine. The absence of symptoms is equated in any way with "Health in Yoga". The holistic approach involves the emotional well -being, mental stress, joy and spiritual growth with.

In yoga we work on a spiritual level and it affects the body. You stretch and strengthen your muscles and affects blood circulation, digestion and breathing. Calm and strengthen the nervous system and it has an impact on the mind. Maintain peace of mind and it affects the immune system and cardiovascular system.

Buddhism meditation: Vipassana- see things as they really are!

Vipassana is one of the oldest Indian meditation techniques. Long lost to humanity, it was rediscovered by Gautama The Buddha more than 2500 years ago. Vipassana means to see things as they really are. It is the process of self-purification by self-observation. He begins by observing the natural breath to concentrate the mind. With a sharpened awareness one observes the changing nature of body and mind and experiences the universal truths of impermanence (anicce), suffering (dukha ) and egolessness (annatta ). This truth-realization by direct experience is the process of cleaning. The entire path (Dhamma ) is a universal remedy for universal problems and has nothing to do with organized religion or sectarianism. For this reason, it can be freely practiced by everyone, at any time , any place , without conflict due to race, community or religion .

The basis of the practice is sila - moral behavior ( see also Yama and Niyama). Sila provides a basis for the development of samadhi (see dharana & dhyana ) - concentration of the mind and the purification of the mind is achieved through panna (see pratyahara & asana) - the wisdom of insight.

The unique combination of Gaiatree yoga (Yoga Sutra ) and Vipassana (Sattipathana Sutra ) in Mahabodhi Centre is expanding the popular concept of Hatha yoga as a physical discipline, in a strong therapeutic and spiritual dimension. There is yoga of self- discovery. In this case, the practitioner develops powerful techniques that can be integrated into everyday life. Thus the unconscious forces of the restless spirit are harmonized and resolved the emotional conflicts.

Asanas: There are 84 asanas in the Hatha tradition. These poses are used to steady the body and mind, making the practitioner more energetic, free from disease, and ready for the practice of meditation. These are often the most familiar part of yoga tradition in the western world.

Pranayamas: These practices utilize breathing to control and influence the flow of vital life force (prana) in the body. Pranayamas are practiced after asana practice. You will learn and practice the basic pranayamas and Kriyas.

Meditation: Dhyana, or meditation, is the practice of calming the mind and body through controlling the thoughts, calming the senses, and deep concentration. You will get an overview about the various techniques in Yoga. Basically we practice Vipassana. Mudras: Mudras are advanced yogic techniques that alter mood, attitude, and perception, thereby deepening awareness and concentration. They have a subtle but powerful effect on energy flow in the body and thus are a good preparation for deeper spiritual practices. You will learn to practice five Mudras during the training.

Bandhas: Bandhas are bodily locks that help to redirect the flow of energy in the body. They involve locking the chin, abdomen, and perennial region. As they are an advanced practice, they are best practiced individually under able instruction before being incorporated into other yogic practices. We practicing every morning during the Kundalini session.

Yoga philosophy: For successful yoga practice, there must be an understanding of the ancient yoga philosophies as described in traditional texts based on Bhhagavadgita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika.

Anatomy and physiology of Hatha yoga: Its important for yoga teachers to understand the movements and range of motion of the human body, as well as the inner workings of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems. This knowledge will help teachers to address the safety concerns of students and give proper adjustments, while helping students understand the full benefits and limitations of their practice.

Teaching Methodologies (Learning to Instruct): From the beginning of the course you will teach in the group (dual system). You will learn how to prepare a good yoga class, to bring the different parts and sequences in a systematical and logical way together. You will learn to use an effective and clear language, to observe your students and adjust them in the right way

"GaiaTreeSchool is a really nice teachers training course. Although the programme is quite tight and tough, there is still time left to relax, study or whatever you like. The place, Ban Bourton (about 45 minutes from Chiang Mai) is really nice! It is at the country side and only a 10-minutes walk to the village, it is a quiet place, surrounded by a lot of nature. The hostess named Noi is a very lovely woman and a terrific cook! Every day she surprised us with her cooking arts. Even if you are not a vegetarian, you start thinking about to become one.I can really recommend this course to everyone who is thinking of becoming a yoga teacher or everyone who wants to 'refind' themselves!" website, edited

"It was an awesome retreat. The location was great and the yoga center was on top of a tree house which overlooks the whole mountain range. It offered vegetarian food which was all organic and self- grown. My friend was a carnivore but he enjoyed it equally well. The yogis were very patient with us beginners, and the "ah ma" there was so nice to us, even offered us a ride back to the city. They were lovely people. Left with a grateful heart and light lit up by yoga philosophy" website, edited

"Thanks for the time with you, it was full of surprises and we had a great retreat. The environment was perfect, so peaceful and quiet, it was such a nice place to unwind and reconnect with nature and ourselves. Maybe it was the chat at the very beginning that have explained us the basics and elements of yoga plus the philosophy, so it gave us a deeper understanding of what to expect. It really helped - especially the question on happiness, it made us get into our thoughts. And your patience with us in yoga too, really appreciate that.I would say the highlight of the retreat was the hot spring at Banbourtong. It has such unique vibe of tranquility. It was so relaxing and nice to be washing up under moonlight . Will make sure to keep it secret. Didn't have the chance to say good bye and thank you to you. And also thanks to the Thai ladies who drove us back to our resort, she was so nice to us eventhough it was so late at night and still waited for us.I absolutely have no complaints and would really hope to come back some day if I can take one whole month of holidays off for the yoga teacher training. Would love to see Ladakh too! Thanks again and take care. Namaste." website, edited

"The retreat in Banbourtong Thailand was truly a magical experience. I have done many yoga and meditation retreats, each are unique and each stick with you the rest of your life. This was an individual journey; a spiritual cleansing even if you are conscious of it or not. Every day life can drive you away from perspective and a retreat like this helps get you back on track. It also gives you the tools to create new habits and ways to bring more peace to every day life. Our mind is a muscle and Mike helps jump start the work out; to observe and control your daily reactions. It is evident that Mike lives and breaths these teachings, they are rooted in wisdom and authenticity. He bring decades of experience from all over the world and from the source of yoga, India! The yoga covers all kinds of styles and is customized to the students. It is not easy for sure, but nothing that is worthwhile is. I am a certified yoga teacher and not only learned a lot but was challenged. We also had students that have never done yoga and they were able to successfully learn.Learning Vipassana and taking silence for a week was obviously difficult but not at the same time. It was peaceful, and necessary to really learn and go inside. The retreat schedule was full from morning to night, from classes, to walks, to hot springs trips, to massages and fantastic food. I enjoyed the intense schedule and thoughtfulness of the flow. You can tell everything was built to teach you from the ground up, it was well structured and came from love. The house was rustic, the location was peaceful and the staff were beyond sweet. This was home for a short time but will be a lifetime of memories to help find our way home when we get lost.I highly recommend considering a retreat with Mike! Thank you again for a wonder end to 2014, I am beyond grateful!"

"Gaiatreeschool rocks! The 6 Days Yoga and Vipassana Retreat with the honoured Ajarn Mike Narada in Ban Bourtong has been both a challenging and purifying experience for both my body and mind. Ajarn Narada was mindful and attentive to both newbies and more experienced participants, so everyone learned a lot. The unique Gaiatreeschool combination of yoga and meditation was very powerful. The location - in the middle of the forest, but close to a village and hot springs - was simply perfect. And, being a food lover, I will never forget gracious Noi and her staff, who prepared the most delicious vegetarian meals for us.In conclusion, I am - weeks after - still really happy about this retreat experience. Hence, I can recommend this retreat to anyone, who would like to get control of her/his restless mind and a stronger, more healthy and agile body. Gaiatreeschool indeed improves and rocks you!" website, edited

"Gaiatreeschool yoga retreat was the perfect way to end my 2014. Spending the last 5 days of the year in silence, going within and just being with myself in the waking hours and through the meditations while nurturing the body through yoga, was the best gift I could give myself. The location of the retreat was also absolutely beautiful. It reminded me to be thankful for being alive on this beautiful Earth." website, edited

  • Review by Andreas from Zittau, Germany

"Hi Mike. After many years of more or less regular yoga practice, this year I joined your YTTC from 01.06.2015 - 28.06.2015 in Leh, India. I had planned just four weeks of intensive one on one yoga practice. You've managed to inspire me so that after the very intense four weeks training, little by little I have found fun in teaching yoga myself. Within those four weeks, I have received a very challenging yoga practice through you, a very interesting anatomy lesson by Anke and a lot of help by Shashi. I gained a lot of new experiences, had a lot of yoga practice, a lot of fun and got a lot of ideas and suggestions.Your Yoga was very challenging for me, but I never felt overwhelmed. You've also shown me where my weaknesses are, and where I still need to catch up. Even the Meditation Retreat in Choglamsar was an very good experience I would not want to miss.So as a conclusion: It was a four very beautiful, exhausting weeks for me, very good accommodation, good tips and help, even during preparation, everything well organized. Time went by so fast because I felt very much at home in Leh. Thank you very much."
