Gaias Alignment Yoga Teacher Training represents a comprehensive presentation of yoga as a vehicle to promote health and a discipline providing genuine well-being. Since the program is an alignment-based training, the information is much more in-depth than a normal yoga training course. You will learn about physical anatomy in detail, including sessions with a Thai massage practitioner, the correct postures for each asana, how different body types need different adjustments, and much more. The aim of the program is to teach you the deeper principles behind body structure, so you can integrate this knowledge. And so you can come from a place of adjusting with the how and why, instead of just rote learning.

This month course will build a really strong foundation for aspiring Yoga Teachers, and even for Yoga Teachers looking to further their education. Inspired by Iyengar Yoga, the Alignment Yoga Teacher Training Course will focus on the proper structural alignment of the body while in asana.

In this training program, you will learn a step-by-step methodology for teaching group and individual yoga sessions. This allows you to begin your practice confidently with an extensive toolbox of yoga methods, approaches, and techniques along with the ability to evaluate individual needs and adapt yoga practices accordingly.

You will learn the underlying principles of asanas as the foundation for the spiritual and energetic layers of yoga. As part of the transformational nature of the program, Gaia has tried to make it rich with spirituality as it pertains to todays day and age, instead of more esoteric yogic practices.

The course is taught by a team of teachers with over 25 years of combined experience, both in teaching group classes as well as working with clients one-on-one. The curriculum is comprehensive and updated for modern times it also includes the practical application of the theory and philosophy of Classical Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, Traditional Meditation, Reiki-based Energy Practices, Massage Training (including Thai massage), the power of Sound, Music & Mantra.

Arrival by airplane

The nearest airport is Koh Samui (USM). There are frequent flights from Bangkok (BKK) and Phuket and daily flights from Pattaya (U-Tapao), Singapore, to Koh Samui. Transportation to the ferry pier is easy to find at the airport. Ferries depart several times daily with the last one at around 17:30. The next closest airport on the mainland is Surathani (URT) where you may find low-cost operators (AirAsia and Thai Airways). From here, you would need a Bus & Boat ticket to arrive at Koh Phangan. This would take several hours.

Arrival by bus

The least expensive way to travel is to take one of the overnight buses. The bus leaves Khaosan Road at 18:00 and arrives at Surathani the following morning. From here, you can arrive at Koh Phangan's shores by boat. The bus and boat combo ticket may be arranged by travel agencies on Khaosan Road and costs about 700 - 900 THB all the way to Koh Phangan.

Arrival by train

Taking an overnight train with a proper bed from Bangkok is yet another conducive way to get Koh Phangan. Trains arrive at Surathani early in the morning. From here, you would need a Bus & Boat ticket to arrive at Koh Phangan. This would take several hours. Train tickets from Surathani back to Bangkok should be reserved in advance, particularly during high season.

"It was an incredible month that, without exaggeration, was life changing. You learn so much about your mind and body and gain so much awareness of it. Arnaud and Tal were incredibly supportive and one could see that they cared about each individual giving us the best possible support. And the group of 29 strangers bonded together for a life time through all the shared experiences. "

"I would recommend this to anyone. Yoga therapy is first and for all a healing and discovery for oneself."

"I was volunteering at Gaia for the last two months, and it surely changed my life. The yoga classes are carried out by carefully selected teachers. Tal, one of the founders of Gaia has so much knowledge and experience, she really knows what she is doing when she is giving a class, working on your body and its muscles and lines. "

"The rest of the classes and sessions are lovely, from martial arts, to ecstatic dances to sound healing, this place is much welcomed food for the soul, the body and the heart. It is run with loving warm heart, carried out like a real family."

"I have nothing but positive remarks for Gaia."

"It will always have a place in my heart."

"Gaia is located near the beach, surrounded by palm trees and beautiful environment. The atmosphere is very calm and people working or volunteering are just amazing! Classes are diverse and every weeks schedule add something new. Also there are few classes which are constant and thought by professional yoga instructors. I was very happy to spend 1.5 months going to Gaia and next time I'm in Phangan, I will return! "

"I could not have asked for more. Between the kindness of everyone present, to the benefits provided, to the most energetic environment imaginable. The only sad part was that I had to leave! I feel truly blessed to be a part of the team. Thank you so much for everything. The classes were perfect, the food was delicious, and the vibes were electrifying. :)"

"Already 2 months have passed since I fly home from Koh Phangan but I still think about doing yoga in Gaia. It was one of the best things that happened to me in my 3 months trip to Thailand. The teachers were superp! I have tried many styles and teachers but it was Tal and Tanja you opened the yoga for me truly. It is great that the facilities are not too big and teachers have time for each student to guide and support. Also the location of the Gaia Yogashala is best possible, in the middle on nature in the shade of trees, away from traffic noises. Beautiful beach is just 2 min walk. Thank you so much and hope to practice with you again next year!"

"Koh Phangan, the magical Island located in the gulf of Thailand, is rumored to sit on a bed of crystals. The island hosts many stunning beaches, amazing jungles, waterfalls, trekking paths and long winding hilly roads to motorbike on. There is a small, but thriving community of yoga and spirituality in the little village of Sri Thanu. Gaia Yogashala is a Yoga School that offers a wide range of in-depth programs, trainings, workshops, events and classes. The owners Ajay and Tal have done a beautiful job of carving out their own yoga oasis right off the beach nestled in-between a coconut tree grove. But Gaia is so much more than yoga classes and fun workshops, this studio has a heart and soul!"

"I met the two lovely owners of Gaia, Ajay and Tal, in September before everything really started here. Immediately I knew I wanted to be part in this beautiful space they were about to create. From October on Gaia and all of its members and volunteers became my Koh Phangan Family and dearest friends! Thank you sooo much for that beautiful and priceless gift! Whether you are thinking of volunteering for Gaia or just passing by for a class – do it! Tal's Alignment Yoga classes are amazing for beginners as well as Yoga teachers – you will always learn something from her huge knowledge of Yoga! Next to all the Yoga classes they offer great Workshops with different teachers, re-birthing sessions (try!) and almost every evening some ecstatic dance, dance mandala, biodanza, Kirtan singing and so on! So if your looking not only to move your body but also want to grow and find community – this is the place! Thank you so much, I love you guys!"

"In 18 months of travel I only have two places I fully intend to revisit; one of them being the paradise that is Koh Pha-ngan. When I arrived to the family I had plans to spend 4 maybe 5 weeks on island; but 8 weeks later (the longest I have ever spent in one spot) I realized I had one day left on my visa and found it was time to move on. A beautiful thing about Koh Pha-ngan is the kinds of people (the East side of the island) attracts. People call it the sticky island because travelers become vacationers spending 2-3 months year after year on this island paradise. The feeling of community is apparent at every cafe, bar, restaurant, and yoga studio. Let me tell ya a little bit about my second home =) Here you'll have the chance to meet my man Ajay and yoga guru Tal. These two have done a beautiful job of carving out their own yoga oasis right off the beach nestled in-between the coconut trees of the island. Practicing in the main hall you are fully emerged into the sounds, smells, and serene energy of the surrounding wildlife. I have practiced yoga for years before my time here but its here I found the deeper meditative side of my practice I have been looking for. The combination of the incredibly passionate teachers, re-birthing practices, pyramid chakra balancing, reiki healing's, among many other spiritual workshops, plus the energy of this beautiful place has the making of your own storybook yoga practice. Save a spot for me next season =)"

"I took a "Slow vinyasa flow class" there and it was a great experience! I was warmly welcomed and when everybody was there we started off with proper breathing exercises. Then we went through a (kind of typical) strong vinyasa flow and ended up in relaxation. The flow was less dynamic than normal (indicated by the schedule already "slow vinyasa flow") which was a new experience to me and gave me the chance to correct my asanas better and get into the postures deeper. Anja, the teacher, is very skilled and guided us mindfully through all the postures. She focused strongly on alignment and breathing and gave everybody corrections/suggestions according to their personal capacities and needs. It was a very calming and peaceful atmosphere which made it a truly valuable experience. "

"I came to Koh Phangan for my yoga practice. I've given myself a year of island-living and practicing yoga in paradise. I was so lucky to have found Gaia Yogashala. The studio is conveniently located in Srithanu beach. It offers beautiful yoga classes with some of the best teachers I've run across, and I'm picky! Naama, Tal, Anja, Kat - I've taken classes with all of these amazing teachers and I highly recommend each. But Gaia is so much more than yoga classes. I swear this studio has a heart and soul! It brings people and hearts together in a very special way. Kirtan singing, Jade's massage trainings and so many other activities and workshops! It's a safe environment to practice yoga and enjoy the community. I owe my best friends and experiences in Koh Phangan to Gaia."

She communicates her teachings clearly, which helps the understanding, even for people who doesnt speak english fluently; she has a wide-ranged knowledge of thai massage techniques and so on; and she is a responsible person, who lead sucessfully her students to be professionals with good skills. For being true, it is satisfying to be able to give her my highest recommendation."

"Gaia is the friendliest and by far my favourite "yoga place" on Koh Phangan. I have been to numerous activities here: singing Kirtans in the evening by candlelight in the midst of jungle noises is truly magical, the reiki shares with the loveliest reiki master on the island, Paula, and the yoga classes are taught by down to earth, inspiring, lovely people. Everybody I meet I point in the direction of Gaia because there is such a homely, welcoming atmosphere everybody should go and find this place. The icing on the cake is that it's in the most perfect, beautiful, peaceful and natural jungle / beach setting."

I had the chance to practice with Naama and Tal who are both excellent and very experienced teachers. Highly recommended!"

I am very much honored that Ajay is welcoming me as a volunteer and will heartily work with these people very soon. A must check yoga shala in Koh Phangan."
