Lucy attended regular classes of all yoga varieties for several years in London before spending a month in Greece studying transformational Hatha yoga and how to teach others. From making this transition, she found her life purpose and moved to a village in France where she opened her yoga haven. The peaceful, rural corner of southwest France, with its mild climate, rolling hills, woodlands, and superb local food is the ideal place to slow down, look inwards, rejuvenate, and replenish the soul.
Chrissie was trained as a teacher and had a degree in fine art and spent a very fulfilling time teaching in London primary schools, at the same time trying to produce her own artworks. Using a holistic approach to her teaching she always starts from individual needs, whether adults or children. This approach brings out the best in all her pupils and lovely bonds are formed because she understands that it is the enjoyment of what each individual brings to the group and shares that creates an atmosphere of trust and creativity. The art course will be tailor-made to your needs and all level.
This retreat will take place in the small village of Charroux in France. This peaceful, rural corner of southwest France, with its mild climate, rolling hills, and woodlands is the ideal place to slow down, look inwards, rejuvenate, and replenish the soul. You will spend your time in the rustic open-sided garden studio and yoga yurt.
Located on the outskirts of a charming old village with it’s ancient abbey and listed monument tower, the yoga garden sits proudly surrounded by trickling streams close to the banks of the river Charente. The place retains the original features of the old water wood mill. Built solidly out of local stone and oak, its hugely thick walls protect against the heat of high summer, keeping the interiors cool.
All meals and beverages are included in the price of this retreat. The food is delicious and vegetarian, and devised with tasty nutrition in mind so that each day you will feast on healthy, tasty meals, smoothies, and juices that not only give you energy but provide food for the soul. Vegans will also not be disappointed! Their onsite cook will provide you with a delightful menu of vegetarian dishes, from the buffet-style breakfasts that you can help yourself to (cereals, yogurts, smoothies, pastries) to truly scrumptious evening dishes served in the garden cafe.
If you need to re-fuel mid afternoon, there is always the not-to-be-missed afternoon tea. The garden café space is where you can help yourself to a wide selection of teas and infusions, coffee, water, and juice whenever you want. All meals from the buffet breakfast to the evening re-fuel are served here. They are happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements, as long as you give notice in advance.
When you’re not immersed in painting or yoga there’s plenty for you to do, including borrowing books from the retreat library to read, stargazing, listening to music, kayaking, and paddle boarding on the nearby river Charente. You can even go cycling, as there are many bikes available for use or simply enjoying some complementary therapies and treatments.
You have come to relax and unwind, so why not complement your yoga practice and indulge in one or more of the massage therapies offered? A qualified English-speaking therapist will discuss your individual needs; all treatments are extra and paid directly to the therapist.
The retreat is located on the outskirts of the little village of Charroux, in the Vienne department of the Poitou-Charentes region in western France. The remains of the Benedictine Charroux Abbey, founded in the eigth century, are preserved in the town. If you wish to go further afield before or after your stay with them, then there's the historic town of Verteuil. The nearby beautiful historic town of Verteuil is on the pilgrimage route that leads from Tours to Santiago de Compostelle.
The town is overlooked by the castle that is situated on the banks of the river. La Roche Posay Spa, this is an award-winning spa that is just over an hour away. Pilgrims Walk - The Camino de Compostelle passes through Charroux, therefore the French Yoga Garden regularly has pilgrims staying with them for some rest and recuperation.
