The course will be based at El Antiguo Juzgada (the old law courts) in the center of the village. Built in 1738 on three levels complete with the original Moorish tower, El Antiguo Juzgada has 4 self-contained, en-suite apartments with double or twin bedroom and sitting room. All apartments also have kitchen facilities and the centre apartment has its own balcony.

The 'white' tower apartment offers visitors 360 degrees of uninterrupted views of the Ronda hills, the Roman castle and Hozgarganta Valley, besides Gibraltar on a clear day, and is ideal for the painter and photographer. The swimming pool, beyond the courtyard, is an ideal place to relax in this climate.

The yogi day

We will begin with a yoga practice in the morning. After breakfast you'll be free to follow your own inclinations for the day. We will be offering pampering aromatherapy, Ayurvedic feet treatments and a Vision Walk with Bruce Wilson. Based on the work of Brandt Morgan, he will show you how to get in touch with your inner wisdom and find the answers to any questions you might have.

Early evening we will have another yoga session together focusing more on breathing and meditation.

For dinner you can choose from the many wonderful tapas bars and restaurants in the village for your evening meal. A 2 course meal in a good restaurant with a drink can be found from about 18 EUR per person. Alternatively if you are staying at El Antiguo Juzgado you can use the communal kitchen to cater for yourself.

Scaravelli inspired yoga

Yoga sessions in the morning will take the form of workshops where everyone has a chance to play with the Scaravelli Inspired approach and experience it in their own bodies. Yoga sessions in the evening will focus more on sitting, breathing and meditation.

We will be following the Scaravelli inspired approach to yoga which includes discarding 'fixed' ideas of how yoga should look or be done and allowing your full body awareness from within to 'open' the body.

Vanda did not believe in 'forcing', 'pushing' or 'pulling' in your yoga practice but rather in finding a way to open with 'effortless ease'. This approach involves cultivating attentiveness, working with gravity and the breath to awaken the spine.

In particular we will look at what it means to work from your core, to work fluidly and with 'effortless effort'. Those with experience of yoga will find it a chance to explore how to enrich their yoga practice with many tips and techniques for increasing flexibility and working more deeply.

Beginners should find it accessible to every type of body, no matter age, shape, size or degree of flexibility. One of the myths about yoga is that you have to be flexible to do it. You don't. Flexibility is a by-product of yoga not a pre-condition to doing it.

You learn to cultivate an awareness of what is limiting you and so how to use your body in a completely different, liberating, way. When you free the body in this way the mind, the heart and your whole sense of being also become freer.

Jimena de la Frontera is a 'white village' located in the province of Cadiz in southern Andalucia, Spain. It borders the Alcornocales Natural Park, an area the size of Cornwall, with a marvelous landscape of Cork trees, rocks, water and natural beauty. Most birds migrating to Africa pass overhead and the park is a paradise for hikers, wild plant lovers and bird watchers. The Hozgarganta, the cleanest river in Spain runs alongside the village and provides beautiful deep pools for swimming. Jimena is a traditional and friendly village with bars and restaurants serving tasty tapas and delicious local dishes.

For dinner you can choose from the many wonderful tapas bars and restaurants in the village for your evening meal. A two course meal in a good restaurant with a drink can be found from about 18 EUR per person. Accommodation in El Antiguo Juzgada includes self catering apartment with welcome pack and breakfast ingredients and a communal kitchen.

  • All day guided walks in the Acornacales Natural Park are also available.
  • By car you could visit Tarifa, the windsurfing capital of Europe and a nice beach, the ancient Phoenician city of Malaga, or Jerez de la Frontera, the centre of sherry making and Flamenco.
  • Hire a car and visit any of the pretty little Andalucian whitewashed villages in the hills around Jimena.
  • The Rock of Gibralter is a 40 minutes drive. As well as the curious 'British' Main Street there is a Nature Reserve with spectacular views and a chance to meet the Barbary monkeys that run wild here.
  • Visit the local town Ronda by taking a scenic train ride from Jimena.

Arrival by airplane

Gibraltar is the nearest airport (40 mins away). EasyJet and Monarch both fly to Gibraltar. Taxi from Gibraltar to Jimena is approx 65 EUR. You can also fly to Malaga or Granada and take the train or bus to reach Jimena.

"Thank you for a great holiday, it was just what I needed - you both went over and above my expectations. I loved that you offered treatments which add a deeper level of opening/healing for those of us that needed it. I also loved that you didn't just abandon us once the yoga was over and organised dinner which kept us together as a group whilst allowing us the freedom to do our own thing if we wished. Bruce was also great with his walks and advice and local knowledge."

" I loved: the undoing and the unwinding; the soft touch of the adjustments; Fairlie's beautiful and gentle approach; the poetry, the realisations as the body let go; the inclusion of information especially regarding fascia and the psoas muscle ; and the connections in the body through the yoga; the walking and swimming in the river. Really appreciated the help in exploring the area from Bruce. That made it a real holiday having someone who knew the area so well. The Vision Walk was a fitting finale and really complemented the yoga."
