Sue Lovell

Sue Lovell teaches Iyengar yoga as a unique process capable of transforming our lives by giving us a deeper awareness of our body, mind and spirit as well as increasing strength and flexibility. She has been practicing yoga for 20 years and teaching for 14 years in Derbyshire where she runs with partner Peak Yoga Iyengar Centre. She holds a Senior Level 2 Teaching certificate.

Sues approach to teaching on yoga holidays and workshops is to introduce a sense of serious fun generating an eagerness to learn, adding layers of understanding and clarity to students practise helping them to realise their full potential.

Her open and accessible style is geared to building confidence and poise in asana practice and deepening understanding of ourselves through pranayama (yogic breathing techniques). The week will offer a two-hour morning yoga asana class suitable to all levels of students and a short evening class.

Patricia Haygarth

Patricia has been involved in yoga since the '60s and teaching since the '90s. Her background includes Iyengar, British Wheel of Yoga and Sivananda teachers. She obtained her Yoga Diploma in India at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in Kerala. Her style has evolved into a gentle, hands on approach, helping each student to reach their own potential at their own comfortable pace.

Suitable for students with or without experience, particularly more mature bodies who soon find that stiff or problem joints respond to this gentle approach. There is always an element of fun in her classes keeping everybody relaxed yet focused.

Morning classes usually consist of flowing asanas with attention to breathing, together with partner work. The late afternoon classes focus more on restorative postures with breathing, meditation and inner awareness techniques. Always followed by a long relaxation.

Jody Lawrence

Jody has been practicing Yoga since 1991.

Mainly Astanga for the first 12 years, with many inspiring teachers including Raffi, Supi, Danny Paradise, teacher training with David Swenson, and BNS Iyengar in India. She has been teaching since 1999. Since 2001 she has enjoyed learning from other schools of Yoga, particularly with Venkatesha and Hema, founders of the Atma Vikasa School in Mysore, India with whom she trained to teach, and found a new depth to her own practice, She also trained with Maya Fiennes to teach Kundalini Yoga. She returns to India as often as possible to continue her studies with Venkatesha and Hema, now focusing more on Yogic philosophy and meditation. Her desire to access the stillness within led her to live in a Buddhist community in Brighton for 8 months and continues to attend classes and retreats there regularly.

On her yoga holidays she teaches a range of Hatha Yoga classes, enjoying the variety that different traditions offer, although teaches a more physically challenging class than some types of Hatha Yoga. She enjoys the harmony and balance that Yoga brings to her daily life and believes Yoga can help us all get closer to true contentment and inner peace. She loves teaching all abilities, for Jody it's not where you are in a posture that counts, what's important is how you are - inside, while in the posture.

To be with your breath, watch your mind, let go of tension, be in the moment, come back to the constant that is the breath. To find contentment, to be at peace, to draw closer to the stillness. That is what matters. That is why she practices Yoga, that is what she wants to share with you.

Ginny Haswell

Yoga has been a part of Ginny's life since she went to her first class in 2000. She initially studied with a Viniyoga teacher and a few years later she discovered Astanga Vinyasa which she has continued to practice since. In 2003 Ginny completed the British Wheel of Yoga foundation course and she later travelled to India to attend the teacher training programme at Brahmani Yoga in Goa, certified by the Yoga Alliance. More recently, she has studied with Paul Grilley, gaining a certificate in Yin Yoga and Anatomy training. Ginny currently teaches Hatha, Astanga Vinyasa, Dynamic Flow and Yin Yoga in her classes in Brighton and Hove.

Ginny demonstrates a fresh and enthusiastic, yet nurturing and sensitive approach with her students. An emphasis on individual attention allows each student to flourish in their own practice at their own pace. Continuing her studies at regular workshops and intensives, Ginny draws on inspiration gained from the teachings of Astanga Vinyasa, Jivamukti, Satyananda and Yin Yoga.

On this holiday, the morning Vinyasa sessions will be playful, energizing and dynamic with some flowing sequences to cultivate strength, stamina and fluidity.

In the afternoon, we will slow down and turn our awareness inwards with Yin Yoga, a relaxing yet often challenging practice that targets joints and connective tissues. Pranayama, meditation and yoga Nidra will be included throughout the week.

  • Insurance
  • Meals other than as specified

There is an on-site restaurant. Each day after your morning yoga class a delicious breakfast will be served. On four evenings each week dinner will be provided. Kerala has great vegetarian cuisine so on other evenings you will explore the many local restaurants. Teas, coffee, drinking water and biscuits will always be available outside of meal times.

There is an Ayurvedic treatment center on-site where you can have massages and facials.

Palm Tree has an on-site massage centre. There are also many massage and beauty parlours in the nearby village providing massages at extremely reasonable rates.

The beach is in front of the venue, sunbeds, and umbrellas can be hired at a discount. The Indian Ocean can be quite vigorous and have a strong under-tow so there are well trained life guards on all beaches. "This was my first yoga retreat and I really think I hit lucky! Mavros Molos is a superb location, the hotel is right on the beach with the yoga studio above the sun terrace overlooking the sea. The food was excellent and plentiful and staff (Maria in particular) were great. We had a fantastic yoga teacher in Mohan - as a beginner I found him very easy to follow and his practice was incredibly focused. Although the program said there would be a free day, he held classes twice every single day and there was also the option for yogic sleep in the evenings and a silent meditation walk into the mountains one morning to see the sun rise. Thoroughly enjoyed the week and would wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone.", edited

"Just got back from my yoga retreat holiday at Grenadine Lodge. It was fantastic! The hotel is amazing, the staff is great, food is delicious - faultless! Diane's yoga was fabulous, my boyfriend had never done yoga before but attended every class. The meditation was peaceful and beautiful, she even took us up a mountain on the last day for one - it was very spiritual. Diane also helped us arrange trips with the Freespirit representatives who were also amazing. We will come again next year."

"I went on a one-week yoga retreat in Turkey at Dalyan starting at the end of May where the yoga was taught by Shamita Ray. She was absolutely excellent. Her teaching was in my view, truly inspirational. She was gentle, kind, and enormously encouraging. The way she taught technique was excellent - clear and enabling. I learned to do things I had never thought I would be capable of, but more than that, I felt better in body and mind at the end of the week than I had for years. She created a spirit of support and harmony within the group which was remarkable."

"Dear Debbie, I just wanted to let you know that our stay at Grenadine Lodge was wonderful. It was a charming hotel with the most helpful staff I have ever met anywhere. The yoga was fabulous; Shanita was an excellent teacher. All in all, it was a wonderful holiday. Thank you so much."

"I had a wonderful time on the yoga retreat organised by Free Spirit Travel, staying in Faralya, Turkey, doing yoga with Louise Gillespie-Smith. The hotel has a beautiful yoga space overlooking the sea, you can watch the sun set as you do yoga in the evening! The hotel itself is very well-presented. The rooms and pool are lovely, there is a nice chill-out area, the food is delicious and nutritious and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The retreat itself was very well organised, transfers were easy and several optional trips and activities were made available to us. Louise is an excellent teacher who really made this a very special week for all involved. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this yoga retreat to anyone!"

"I have recently returned from a wonderful week at Grenadine Lodge. I went there last year and had a great time but was a little apprehensive at returning in case my previous memories were too good to repeat. I was not disappointed - this holiday was even better. Grenadine Lodge is a great place to stay, so calm and tranquil and a wonderful place to practice yoga. "

"The staff at the lodge really are like family and take great care of your every need. I am not vegetarian but thoroughly enjoyed the lovely fresh food presented at breakfast and dinner."

"Many thanks to Bev, our yoga teacher, who pulled out all the stops to provide us with a variety of different yoga experiences. Every class was well prepared and tailored for each and every students level of competency, encouraging you to go that little bit deeper if you felt able to do so. "

"The meditation, music, and readings certainly took the yoga to another level and really made you think deeply on a much more personal level. Bev is very professional, friendly and approachable and I look forward to going on future retreats on which she teaches."

"Thank you Free Spirit for providing such a well-organised hassle free holiday. I'm looking forward to the next one!"

"I spent a week at Grenadine Lodge with Rachel Graham from August 10 - 17. I wanted to let you know that it was a wonderful week with a mix of yoga, Pilates, and dance. The fusion of styles suited me very well."

"I already participate in classes with Rachel at Brockwell Lido, so I am confident that she knows her stuff as a teacher. Spending the week with her, however, was a whole new experience. She was so considerate to all our differing needs and abilities and went beyond the norm to make our retreat memorable and fun. She is so generous in the amount of care and time she is willing to give."

"Grenadine Lodge and Dalyan was beautiful. So all in all, I had a fantastic time."

"I want to thank you for the wonderful holiday I had in Dalyan in August. It was my first trip to Turkey and the holiday was excellent. I loved Grenadine Lodge. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was delicious, the room had everything I wanted (including plenty of storage space and coat hangers, and a safe at no extra charge) and the gardens, yoga and dance spaces, and tree house were delightful."

"Rachel Graham was a brilliant teacher. Not only she trained in yoga, Pilates, and dance but she is also very sensitive to the needs of individual participants and making classes fun for everyone, whether beginner or highly experienced. Likewise, she discreetly checked that each of us was having a good holiday and helped with sorting problems, but also she welded the group together when that was appropriate."

"I took advantage of all the trips. Boat trips are not usually my thing but Flipper-K was exceptionally clean and well-fitted and the crew kind and welcoming, so I enjoyed the 12 island trip very much. All in all, I came home wishing that I could have the whole holiday all over again, preferably with the same group of people!"

"I have just returned from a week at Grenadine Lodge, a yoga and Pilates week. What a wonderful place. A totally relaxing feel to it, as soon as I walked in I had a great feeling about the place. It has a special ambiance."

"Rachel, our teacher, makes the class such fun you dont feel its a class at all! Though she makes you work hard its in a very chilled out way. The studio has a great location with beautiful views, what a wonderful place to do yoga and Pilates in."

"The food was so delicious, and though I'm not really vegetarian, I thoroughly enjoyed the choice, at breakfast and dinner. All in all a wondeful week, and I was sad to leave. I do hope Rachel will be teaching next year at Grenadine Lodge, as I hope to return."

"We just wanted to say thank you so much for the lovely holiday we had at the Sultan Palas Hotel in Dalyan recently. It really is a special place; the rooms very clean and comfortable, the beautiful pool and gardens, the friendly, helpful and discreet staff and the fresh food including wonderful mezes. As friends of Lorna's we knew the yoga would be brilliant and it was so lovely do do it in such tranquil surroundings."

"WOW, what a fabulous holiday we had. I am still on a high. I describe our retreat as one of the most beautiful experiences of my life so far, cocooned in a little retreat of love, positivity, and kindness. It was so lovely to meet you all! I tell everyone I meet about your fabulous yoga holidays, Jilly, and of course the legend that is Mr Sye! I have wonderful photos of you all on my phone and uploaded to Facebook. I am not sure how to email them though, I will find out!"

"Just want to share this beautiful moment on returning from India I went to my mum's to give my nieces and step daughter their gifts, Ruby looks beautiful in her Sari! They wanted to know all about India and what we did, I told them about the circle of love, where you all hold hands and send the person on your right all the love in the world! Amazing! "

"The energy was beautiful a little circle of innocent, eager little people wishing with all of their heart to send all of the love in the world to each other I don't think I have ever felt anything so powerful. I am going to use this within my work, it's such a simple yet beautiful thing to do! Thank you David! I hope this finds you all well and happy I send with it all my love. Namaste."

"It was one of the most exciting places I have ever visited. It was a great balance between learning yoga and experiencing some of India. The location is superb. The beach is beautiful as well as being a real working beach. One of my favorite mornings was watching the fishermen bring in the nets, singing, and cooperating as a whole group together."

"The staff was fantastic, right from the top down. Halen is a great manager. He was so quietly efficient, gentle, and kind. He organized the various trips we wanted as well as organizing us to go to see a temple celebration which was so different from any carnival I have ever seen. It was so full of color, music, elephants, and performers. It is something I will remember for life."

"The food provided was superb, exactly what I wanted. They were so obliging that when we asked for Dosers for breakfast they provided several days of tasty new Indian breakfasts. The staff went well beyond the call of duty. I would recommend it highly to my friends."

"So, I am back from Kovalam, and I loved it! I have been back for two weeks now, but it is still not easy to reconnect to London. I enjoyed my stay in Kovalam; nice location, great yoga, and fabulous food! Yes, you were right, it was a real feast every day! The people were really nice and it was a pleasure to spend time chatting around the big table at breakfast or dinner. The Curry Leaf staff was amazingly nice. Halin is a very good manager, friendly, and relaxed. I would like to book for the February 2016 retreat with Liz. I hope you are well. All the best."

So remote and peaceful, surrounded by pine forests and the sea with gorgeous views everywhere, and Hassan couldn't be kinder, smilier, or more helpful. The yoga space is great, the weather has been kind to us, and we've been on a couple of fun excursions. Everyone is happy.
