Gymea Eco Retreat Center and Day Spa is a sustainable eco-retreat venue and healing spa positioned at the base of majestic Wollumbin and Mount Warning in the northern rivers region of New South Wales.

The property and facilities provide a rejuvenating and re-energizing environment that supports retreats of transformation including health, spiritual, yoga, meditation, and energetic retreats. The retreat center is a purpose-built residential retreat center and as such, offers retreat hosts and guests with complete retreat experience.

Accommodation at Gymea Eco Retreat is luxurious. There are single and twin share accommodation for 40 through 20 beautifully appointed eco en-suite double rooms, full day spa with therapists and facilities, commercial kitchen and dining, large multi-purpose hall, resort style magnesium pool, beautiful grounds, settings and rainforest walks, and more.

Rooms

The retreat venue has 20 eco deluxe double rooms, which are all equipped with luxury five-star eco inner sprung latex topped single or king beds. All bedding, manchester, and room furnishings have been carefully selected to meet biodynamic or organic certification standards. Each room includes its own shower and toilet. All retreat venue rooms comfortably accommodate two singles or a couple.

Muti-purpose hall

The Octagon is a beautiful space and offers retreat venue hosts and guests with a large (220 square meters) and versatile room with amazing acoustics perfect for a range of uses from teachings, mediation, yoga, creative workshops, and performances.

Outside, the Octagon has covered verandas, providing retreat venue organizers and guests with additional undercover options. The Octagon’s elevated position also offers wonderful views of Wollumbin or Mount Warning and a great feeling of space.

Magnesium mineral swimming pool

The retreat venue also includes a 20 meter long resort style swimming pool which enjoys incredible views of Mount Warning and the valley. The magnesium swimming pool is up to 12 meters wide and three meters deep. The pool offers a mixture of shallow and deep zones, providing swimmers with a range of paddling, sitting, and swimming options.

Benefits of the magnesium mineral pool include feeling and tasting like fresh water and environmental friendliness. Research suggests that 65% of the world’s population is ,magnesium deficient and studies have proven that absorbing magnesium through the skin (transdermally) is one of the most effective ways for the body to maintain healthy levels of this important mineral.

Kitchen

The retreat venue is complimented by a generous (40 square meters), well-equipped commercial kitchen. The kitchen is well-organized and has proven to provide ample space and amenity to support the preparation of wonderful food for large groups.

The equipment provided in the kitchen includes two commercial stoves, large hotplate, two large ovens, many stainless steel benches, sinks, and industrial dishwasher. The kitchen is well ventilated and also offers plenty of refrigeration capacity.

All classes are tailored to be enjoyed by beginner and experienced yogis. Candice specializes in Yin yoga and yoga Nidra (yogic sleep). Yin yoga incorporates long, slow, and delicious holds aimed to realign the deepest structures of the body and release all that you no longer need to carry.

Kate’s classes incorporate vibrant and energizing Vinyasa, designed to enliven and awaken the body, mind, and soul. All classes are designed to connect you to your chaandra state.

A sample daily ritual at chaandra will look like this:

You will move into silence after yoga Nidra and lift the silence after the morning yoga flow. The schedule is subject to change.

  • Candice Hooper

    Candice Hooper has been teaching yoga for almost 10 years and over this time, has run many retreats, workshops, and classes around Australia. Candice has a love for teaching grounding, fluid asana, with sedating guided meditations. Candice lives on the South Coast of Australia with her two young boys and husband and travels regularly to host retreats through Yuga.

  • Kate Patch

    Kate has been practicing yoga for 15 years and have been a qualified instructor for four years. She studied through the Australian College of Classical Yoga. The style of yoga that she practices and teach is both Hatha and Iyengar based. The focus of the classes she teaches will be alignment, breath, strength, and flow. Food has been a passion of Kate from a young age. She completed a bachelor of science at Flinders University. This has helped her to understand how the body utilizes the food you eat as well as how the processes by the food is prepared can affect the quality of it.

This retreat will be held at the stunning Gymea Eco Retreat near Uki and Mount Warning in the hinterland of New South Wales, Australia. It is set right in the heart of Australia’s Green Cauldron, one of Australia’s iconic landscapes identified as the creative and spiritual heartland of Australia.

This part of Australia is being described as a mysterious melting pot of rich volcanic earth, deep green rainforest, breathtaking scenery, shining blue waters, rare Gondwana (prehistoric) rainforest, and powerful land and mountains.

Your food will be lovingly created on site by chef Kate Edwards (Camp Eden) and Candice Hooper (Yuga). Both have a love for healthy whole foods and will share this knowledge with you through the two healthy cooking workshops. All meals will be plant-based, wholesome, nourishing, and of course delicious! All meals will be vegetarian, gluten free, and dairy free. You will also have two healthy cooking workshops.

Driving directions from Brisbane

  • After crossing into New South Wales, continue on (M1) for 12 kilometers.
  • Take the left-hand turn off (M1) for Tweed Valley way or tourist drive 40 and head towards Murwillumbah.
  • Keep following the signs to Murwillumbah, turn right at the roundabout and go over the bridge, and cross the Tweed River.
  • Head through Murwillumbah shops and through two more roundabouts, then take the second left into Riverview St. There is a big green sign to UKI.
  • Follow this road (turns into Uki Road) for 10 kilometers, you will pass the turn off to Mount Warning via Mount Warning Road, keep going. On the left you will pass Glenock Road, followed by Braeside drive.
  • You need to take the left turn into Braeside drive. Once on Braeside drive, please take the second right to Bonnydoon road.
  • Go all the way to the end of Bonnydoon, and at the top of the cul-de-sac there is a driveway with a small sign that has Gymea Eco Retreat and Spa, 128 on it.
  • Take the right fork of the driveway, the drive-way is quite steep, so take it slow and use low gear or first please.
  • You will pass a dam on your left and then take a left into the marked “car park” area. Please park here and follow the signs to the reception and the day spa.

Driving directions from Byron

  • Head out of Byron Bay via Jonson, Byron, or Ewingsdale road all the way to the Pacific highway route one north.
  • Travel on the Pacific highway (M1) north for 17 kilometers until you get to the Tweed Valley way or tourist drive 40 exit, just after the Billinudgel turn-off.
  • Take the Tweed Valley way or tourist drive 40 exit from the freeway.
  • Continue through the roundabout and then take a left hand turn at the T intersection to stay on Tweed Valley way. You will now be heading north toward Murwillumbah. Drive for 12 kilometers.
  • After 12 kilometers, turn left onto Stokers or Nolands road. You will see a large sign that says “Stokers Siding”.
  • Continue onto Stokers road for two kilometers till you get to the railway crossing on your left.
  • Turn left onto Smiths Creek road. This is a twisty road, continue for 10 kilometers till you get to the end (“T” intersection).
  • Turn right onto Kyogle Rd (the T intersection) towards Murwillumbah.
  • You need to take the second right turn into Braeside Drive. Once on Braeside Drive, please take the second right to Bonnydoon Road.
  • Go all the way to the end of Bonnydoon, and at the top of the cul-de-sac there is a driveway with a small sign that has Gymea Eco Retreat and Spa, 128 on it.

  • Once you pass through Uki (approximately 50 kilometers) on Kyogle Road, turn into Braeside drive, Bonnydoon road is the second street on your right.
  • The property is all the way to at the end of Bonnydoon road, at the top of the cul-de-sac. You will pass signs to the Castle on the Hill on your right hand side.
  • Go all the way to the end of Bonnydoon, and at the top of the cul-de-sac there is a driveway with a small sign that has Gymea Eco Retreat and Spa, 128 on it.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Gold Coast Airport (OOL). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Yuga will pick you up from the airport. To be eligible for this transfer, please ensure your flight arrives before 12:00 p.m. on February 13, 2017. Otherwise, Gymea Eco Retreat is accessible by car if living close by.

Arrival by bus

  • You will need to take bus No. 761 from Gold Coast Airport to Tweed Heads (Centro), this is a short four and a half kilometer or 12-minute trip.
  • At Tweed Heads (Centro), you need to change buses and take bus No. 605 to Murwillumbah (Sunnyside Mall). This is a 31 kilometer or 45-minute trip.
  • From Murwillumbah (Sunnyside Mall), you will need to take a cab or taxi out to Gymea Eco Retreat and Spa, this is a 14 kilometer or 14-minute trip out to Gymea. There should be a taxi on the rank.
