Focusing on the chakras and nervous system, this retreat will involve a dynamic morning flow to energize body, mind, and soul, release tension, and unblock trauma. This off-grid eco-friendly retreat offers a chance to truly get back to nature with outdoor yoga and dining, unique yurt accommodation, all held within the safety of a welcoming green valley. Guests come together during the yoga practices and at meal times as they enjoy the fantastic organic freshly prepared vegetarian meals.
One of the special things about this yoga retreat are the yurts. The guests are always very pleasantly surprised by just how comfortable everything is, (despite being eco friendly) and how well the systems for water heating, electricity, and heating the yurts in the cooler months works. Couples can also be accommodated in the smaller yurt for two.
All yurts and the bell tent have electricity, solar reading lamps, shelving, and some storage space, carpets, and rugs. All the beds have mosquito nets. Yurts are shared with a maximum of one or two others. Guests can also be offered one single yurt per week, at a single supplement rate.
Bathrooms and toilets are shared by a maximum of five guests. The bathrooms have solar heated hot water and eco-composting toilets. The bathrooms and toilets are built in a modern style using wood from the land, they are clean, comfortable, and totally green.
The other yurts are located nearby, one which has three singles, and the smaller yurt for two people. The yurts have lighting and electricity for charging phones and laptops. You will be provided bedding and a bath towel. Yoga Holidays Portugal do recommend guests bring a towel for swimming and for yoga practice if you require.
The yurts are made in the Mongolian style, on site in Portugal, using pine and chestnut wood from the land. Almost all the furniture inside the yurts has also made by hand on site using locally sourced wood of olive, walnut, cherry, acacia.
This yoga retreat offers time out from a busy and often stressful life to rejuvenate and restore your natural state of balance and wellbeing. Yoga classes will be dynamic vinyasa and breath centered Hatha yoga. The retreat will include 10 yoga classes with asana, pranayama, led meditations, and yoga Nidra, three yummy meals per day, and gorgeous yurt accommodation. Other activities include local walks, swimming, a relaxing evening in the wood-fired hot tub.
On the last night of each week, guests close with a bonfire and lighting the wood fired hot tub. This gives guests a chance to soak tired yoga muscles, relax, and have a little party under the stars. Often there are musicians in the group who play guitar or drums to accompany the evening.

The food prepared and served is tasty and wholesome vegetarian and vegan food. Yoga Holidays Portugal use vegetables from their own organic garden and then locally sourced fruit and vegetables. The food is approximately 80 percent vegan, and 30 to 40 percent raw.
Breakfast is self-service with seasonal fruits, a selection of cereals and toasted sourdough, and local corn bread, accompanied by homemade jam or marmalade. A selection of tea (green, black, and herbal) and coffee is available throughout the day.
Lunches are fresh garden salads, grain salads, falafel or Spanish omelet, usually served with a variety of raw dips, nut plates, or hummus.
Evening meals include a variety of curries with biryani rice or coconut rice, vegetable noodles with stir-fried tofu and vegetables, moussaka and salad, spiced potatoes with honey aubergine and couscous. Please let Yoga Holidays Portugal know when booking if you have any special dietary requirements, you can be offered gluten free and lactose-free options.
Depending on the yoga retreat week and yoga teacher, different activities are available. Yoga Holidays Portugal are located a short walk from the Cabril Reservoir, which provides a private and stunning location for wild swimming. Other activities such as therapies offered by individual teachers, or Laughter yoga are available depending on the week. Usually, between yoga classes and meals, guests are quite content to lie in the sun, indulge in a massage, or other treatment, and if feeling a little more energetic will walk to the water for swimming.
In between yoga classes and meals, guests often walk to the reservoir to cool down. Yoga Holidays Portugal is located a 20 to 30 minutes walk from the Cabril reservoir. It is also close to several local wild swimming locations for guests with cars.
The property is surrounded by woods, with many tracks and beautiful old abandoned houses and buildings. It is also close to the reservoir, and the village. There are many forest tracks to explore and spend time walking in the woods.
Guests often enjoy a walk to the local village, where there are two cafes and small shops selling snacks, drinks, ice cream, etc.
Yoga Holidays Portugal has a selection of local therapists available to provide treatments for the guests, depending on the retreat week. Often, the yoga teachers offer various treatments. Local therapist Aoife Carter specializes in myofascial release and other techniques to work with issues within the body, or recovery from injury and trauma.
Guests usually spend most of their time relaxing on sun loungers or in hammocks, reading a book from our yoga library.
The bus from Lisbon is at 3:45 p.m. arriving in Pedrogao Grande at 7:30 p.m. The bus from Porto is at 5 p.m., arriving in Pedrogao Grande at 7:30 p.m. Please plan your flights accordingly. Buses leave Pedrogao Grande on Saturday morning at 7:45 a.m. and 9 a.m. This gives guests plenty of time for their connecting flights home, if traveling on the same day.
In Lisbon, you can catch a bus or taxi from the airport to Sete Rios bus station. In Porto, the Rede Expressos terminal is nearest to 24 de Augusto metro station. It is relatively easy to get to the bus station in each city, most young people speak English, and the bus web site is accurate and helpful.
