Julie’s invitation is a deep awakening of the body through a practice that works from the spine to cultivate freedom, strength, and flexibility of movement. This yoga practice will reconnect you to your body’s natural rhythms, energy, and wisdom as you emerge into spring. This weekend is an opportunity to sit and listen with your heart at whatever point you are in your life and all within the community of the group.

Arcadia, a beautifully renovated traditional Catalan farmhouse, is located in the Biert Valle, near Banyoles’ great natural beauty. The calm and beauty of the valley and forest that surround the house together with the dedication of the experienced expert retreat team at Arcadia make it a truly unique and perfect place for yoga retreat. Arcadia’s property, which includes 15 acres of land, is only an hour and a half by bus from the city of Barcelona and 40 minutes from the Costa Brava.

It has 10 rooms, a spacious dining room with living room and a 200 square meters Sala. Arcadia offers elegant accommodation. There are 10 beautiful rooms, which can be shared for four up to six people with shared bathrooms, but can also be offered for a supplement as private rooms, or for couples.

Julie will offer one yoga session on the arrival day and two yoga sessions each day on Saturday and Sunday, one during the early morning from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and an evening class from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. On the arrival day, Friday, there will be one session, when you will practice from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Meditation will also be offered each day in the early morning.

The yoga sessions will begin with a gentle invitation to open up the body and then gently explore and deepen into different postures, breathing, and meditation through the weekend. Holding the intention to listen to the awakening seeds of our movement into springtime, the yoga will be suitable for all, from experienced yogis to those new to yoga.

You will be invited to embrace much more than just doing the posture. This will be a nourishing and intuitive practice where you will listen to the wisdom of the body, where you are kinder, more patient, more present to yourself. In return to a softer body, the postures will also open to you.

There will then be free time in the day for you to enjoy immersed in the inspiring natural surroundings, resting in the gardens, or walking through the valley and forests or to the nearby lake. On Saturday, there will be an option to put on your hiking shoes, take a picnic lunch and walk as a group to the monastery ruins and enjoy a meditation together. There will also be a sauna available for the group for a small supplement.

The evening yoga session on Friday and Saturday will be a more restorative practice and the afternoon session on Sunday a gentle closing practice. There may be periods of silence depending on the needs of the group on one or two evenings through to morning to support each other in arrival into the invitation to be with your heart and a deep sense of beingness, in gentle mindfulness.

On Saturday, there will be an option to put on your hiking shoes, take a picnic lunch, walk as a group to the monastery ruins, and enjoy a meditation session together.

    Julie is deeply inspired by the work of the late Vanda Scaravelli and teachers of her work, including John Stirk, Diane Long, and Liz Warrington, who work with the relationship between the spine, the breathe, gravity, and space to find freedom of movement and health in the body and mind. Julie's work and classes also acknowledge the meditation of yoga and include meditation practice.

This retreat will be held in Girona, Spain at Arcadia.

On Friday evening, you will be offered delicious, organic dinner created by Arcadia's cook. Followed by nutritious breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday. All meals are vegan and vegetarian, made with fresh, seasonal, and locally grown ingredients. Please notify Yoga Con Julie if you have dietary requirements.

Driving directions from the AP7 highway

  • Take the AP7 highway Girona-France.
  • After an hour, take the exit 6 towards Banyoles.
  • Continue in this direction until the first exit (Banyoles-south).
  • Continue straight until you reach a roundabout indicating Mieres, Santa Pau i Estany.
  • Having skirted the lake (i’Estany) and passed by a tree walk, about 100 meters, you will see a sign that indicates Rocacorba (GIV 5247).
  • Follow this road for eight kilometers until you see the Arcadia sign on the roadside.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Girona–Costa Brava Airport (GRO) or Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN). Transfer from and to the airport is available upon request.

Arrival by bus

Take a bus that goes to Banyoles, the closest town to Arcadia, located 10 kilometers away.

Arrival by train

From Barcelona Sants Station trains run regularly to Girona Train Station, where you can be picked up by Arcadia staff to take the short 25-minute drive to the center.
