The Central Hotel opened its doors for the first time in 1874. It hosted guests such as Theodore Roosevelt and Count Ferdinand de Lesseps among other public figures of the time. The Central Hotel was the first hotel in Panama, serving as a “rendezvous” for all of the passengers who traveled to the American continent, and becoming famous throughout the western hemisphere for offering high-style European and American services at reasonable prices.
Construction work on the building has been completed. This work consisted of totally restructuring the building while maintaining the façade and respecting the original structure. The hotel is unique given its location, modern appearance, history, and institutional connections. The hotel features 135 rooms, a pool, restaurant, bar, and spa.
Mount Totumas´ cabins were built from sustainable timber harvested from the reserve´s second growth forests and, where possible, dead or dying trees were harvested. Mount Totumas supports the local cottage industries. All the furniture in the cabins was made by local craftsman using the lodge´s own timber. All rooms come with a private bathroom and the upper suites even come with a private balcony offering stunning views over the cloud forest.
Mount Totumas is powered with renewable energy from micro hydro power station and guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi.
A sister-science to yoga, Ayurveda is a healing modality, which is also indigenous to India. It has been practiced as a medical system for more than 5000 years and is still highly effective and widely used. The word Ayurveda means “science of life” or “lore of life” in Sanskrit. The guiding principle of Ayurveda is to promote health through the balance of the five natural elements; earth, water, fire, air, and space (ether).
Due to the unique qualities of these elements, it is believed that their pairing creates three distinct energetic constitutions or “doshas”. Within the human body, the three doshas are known as Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Each has specific mental attributes and handles certain functions, such as digestion, hormonal activity, and communication.
Vata is composed of air and space elements and controls all movements in the body’s circulation, breath, voice, transportation of nutrients to cells, communication between nerves and excretion of waste. Vata is also associated with creativity and adaptability.
Pitta, comprised of fire and water elements, is responsible for digestion, metabolism of nutrients and production of cell energy. Pitta also ignites our passion, courage and intelligence.
Kapha is made up of earth and water elements and handles bones, lubrication, cell membrane structure as well as growth and development from fetus to adult. Emotionally, Kapha is also about compassion, reliability, and memory.
Ayurvedic treatments include custom food plans, daily routines, herbal remedies, poultices, breathing techniques, yoga, and other therapies such as oleation, massage, and chakra balancing.
Born in India more than 5000 years ago, yoga was originally practiced strictly by men for the purpose of spiritual development. Away from the distractions of women and family life, these yogis spent their time in long periods of meditation. They developed yoga asanas (postures) in order to build their stamina and bring balance to the physical and energetic bodies.
This pre-meditation ritual became known as “Hatha yoga” or “sun-moon yoga”, referring to the solar and lunar energies, as well as to other opposing, yet complementary, forces. The word “yoga”, in its rudimentary connotation, stems from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means to connect or to unite. Thus by definition, everything people do, be it making a salad or making love, can be a yoga and a union of supreme consciousness.
This immersion program helps develop and deepen personal practice. Therapeutic yoga practices, meditation, breathing exercises, postural alignment, joint mobility exercises, nutrition counseling and Ayurvedic techniques are included. Learn simple principles to support digestion, sleep, graceful aging, immunity, weight management, increased energy and general happiness, and well-being.
The intention of Yoga + Ayurveda Healing I is to offer life enhancing tools to better understand oneself, to promote healing and improve your quality of life (mind, body, and spirit).

Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program. This certificate can be used for personal development, continuing education credits, or towards a 200 or 300-hour therapeutic yoga teacher certification.
