Join West Broward Mindfulness Sangha for their third retreat of the year! This mindfulness residential retreat will be held at the peaceful Casa San Carlos Retreat Center in Delray Beach, Florida and this is not a religious event. You will experience mindfulness at this residential retreat and meditate together with Cindy Ricardo, Jose Ricardo as well as the Sangha in the Theravadin Buddhist tradition.

Casa San Carlos Retreat Center is a peaceful retreat center in Delray Beach, Florida, USA. Casa San Carlos Retreat Center has private and shared rooms, as well as a spacious meditation room, lovely gardens, and a peaceful lake to do walking meditation.

Casa San Carlos Retreat Center offers private rooms with bath which has a full-sized bed and can accommodate two people (please indicate if you are a couple), as well as shared rooms with bath and twin or full-sized beds.

West Broward Mindfulness Sangha's mindfulness retreat will offer you an opportunity to deepen your understanding and experiential practice of mindfulness. As you practice meditation, you will learn to train and calm the mind and open the heart to compassion. In this retreat, you will deliberately let go of outside distractions in order to focus all of your attention on developing your ability to observe the movements of the mind.

You will notice how your bodies and hearts are affected by your mind states, how you often have fixed views of the world that limit your ability to be open minded and respond with compassion. You will also notice how your heart also contracts in reaction to these limiting views and as the mind becomes more open, your hearts can open to compassion towards yourself as well as the world. This movement of the mind and heart towards what is skillful and wholesome will help you deepen your ability to respond to life in wise and compassionate ways.

During the retreat, there will be alternate periods of sitting, walking, and eating meditation as well as breaks for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The retreat will usually be held in noble silence which will help you to deepen the meditative state, gain insight and increase your capacity to meet challenges with compassion.

Formal seated meditation

You will sit on a chair or cushion for a certain period of time with the intention to be present with the moment to moment experience and watch as the experience will unfold instead of reacting and trying to fix or manipulate experience.

Walking meditation

You will deliberately slow down your automatic fast pace of walking and bring all of your attention to the activity of walking. You will feel the muscles in the legs and the feet touching the earth. You will also gently bring your attention back to the activity of walking when it wanders off into thinking.

Eating mindfully

You will pause before eating to give gratitude to all the living beings and the earth that provided the food. As you eat, you will set aside all distractions to be with the eating activity. What the food tastes like, smells like, what sensations will arise as you eat, the memories, thoughts, emotions may arise during this activity and you will be present to witness this.

Mindfulness meditation

You will develop the skill of nonjudgmental awareness, gain clarity of mind and a sense of ease through this healing and grounding practice. Each day will include a Dharma talk, a Gentle yoga class and plenty of opportunities to practice seated, walking and eating meditation. This retreat will be held in noble silence (with some periods of question and answer session for a deeper understanding of the practice) from 18:00 to lunch time on Sunday.

Gentle yoga / mindful movement

Experience journey through body, mind and heart through a sequence of Gentle yoga poses. Learn to connect breath with movement. This is an optional class. If participating, please bring a yoga mat.

Compassion and loving kindness

Living in today's world is challenging. Cultivating the ability to stay present and open-hearted is essential to maintain healthy relationships with yourself, others and all beings.

  • This retreat will be held on Friday, October 20 to Sunday, October 22 and begin at 16:00, then end at 13:00.
  • If you are practicing formal seated meditation (on a floor), please bring a cushion. Chairs are available.
  • Please refrain from using scented products out of respect for others who may have an allergy to them.
  • Cindy Ricardo

    Cindy Ricardo is the lead teacher at West Broward Mindfulness Sangha. She has practiced yoga and mindfulness for the past 15 years and more. In both personal and professional life, this practice has helped her sustain an open mind and a compassionate heart. It helps her meet all experiences in life in ways that are healing where she sees the preciousness of life and are able to meet suffering with mindfulness and compassion. It is a life changing practice and Cindy is passionate about guiding others in healing / peaceful practices.

    Jose Ricardo is one of the instructors at West Broward Mindfulness Sangha.

This retreat will be held at Casa San Carlos Retreat Center in Delray Beach, Florida, USA. The retreat house is approximately 25 minutes from Coral Springs.
