Spring is springing! And we are going to absorb, enjoy and celebrate that during this weekend with meditative yoga lessons and relaxed country walks in the woodland and riverine landscapes near the Yoga House. There is also ‘down time’ with space for quiet and rest as well as for meeting each other. The group is small (max. 11 participants) and there is plenty of space. Space for peace and quiet, as well as for meeting each other and nourishment on several levels.
The Yoga House stands on the foundations of the erstwhile coach house of Kruisvoorde House, a stately home on the edge of the village of Twello that goes back to the 16th century. The former coach house was torn down and rebuilt in the 1970s. The house still has some of the features of the coach house but all the advantages of modern bulding techniques as well. We moved in at the end of 2015 and had the garage converted into a Yoga Space. The first floor of the main house has accommodation for up to 10 guests. From Coach House to Yoga House! We want this to be a place where people can come to find relaxation, inspiration and community.
The day room and veranda: The spacious day room and veranda look out over fields in front of the house and the park-like garden at the back. Because the veranda is sheltered it is often possible to sit outside. And otherwise we sit comfortably near the wood stove or gather round the kitchen table - the heart of the house.
There is always somewhere you can withdraw for some peace and quiet or a one-to-one chat too - such as "the barn", now a second, book-lined sitting room looking out over the rose garden.
The bedrooms: The photos give an impression of the five double bedrooms. Two of the rooms have en suite bathrooms, the other three share two bathrooms and have sinks in the room. All the beds are new box springs and every room has a chair and desk.
The garden: "It's a park, not a garden" said our first visitors. It is certainly a lovely place to relax, with plenty of shade, a sunny lawn, and a lot of varied bird life as well as hares, squirrels and - if you are lucky - roe deer.
The Yoga lessons are taught by Clare and imbued with mindfulness and kindness. They will help you carve out or reinforce pathways to relaxation that you will be able to follow and maintain when you go home. The walks are guided by Wouter. Together they run the Yoga House in Twello, which is their home too. The program is subject to change, e.g if the weather forecast suggests a better time for walking.
Twello lies close to the IJssel river (20 minutes' walk) a short bike ride from the historic city of Deventer. It is in the middle of farmland with many traditional farmhouses, between the riverine landscape and the woods and heaths of the Veluwe region. It is a great area for walks and for cycling, with plenty of routes to follow. In the summer keen swimmers will enjoy the 2-kilometre-long lake at Bussloo, just 15 minutes by bike and a lovely place to take a dip at the end of a hot summer's day.
The IJsselvallei runs from Arnhem to the south, on the Lower Rhine, and Kampen in the north. At high water the river floods and at low water the flood plains dry out. Nature is ever changing here and varies from woods to grasslands, heath, waterland, meadows and swamps. Twello is known for its many stately homes, some going back to the colonial era, some further back than that. The Dutch folder describes some of these estates and a beautiful walk of 11 or 18 kilometres.

All meals are full board and vegetarian.
Twello is just off the A1 at Deventer and a few kilometres from the A50 at Apeldoorn - easy to reach by car from the rest of the Netherlands or Germany. When possible we are happy to facilitate carpooling for participants in our weekends.
The Yoga House is easy to reach by public transport too, with Twello station nearby! For guests from the UK, trains come from Schiphol to Apeldoorn where you change for Twello. Just let us know what train you are on and we'll meet you.
