Pranayama techniques give valuable tools to energize and vitalize every aspect of your being. When you concentrate on prana, the mind quickly becomes steady and concentrated. When you gain control over the breath, you gain control over yourself. It is possible to reach an expanded state of consciousness only when your prana has been fully activated or liberated. Through the help of pranayama, you can achieve this goal.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a homestay setting, surrounded by the splendor of nature. This affords a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture. ​The ashram provides private rooms and shared dorm room facilities. Availability is based on current occupancy.

You can stay in the guesthouse, bamboo house or in one of the huts. Water for bathing is powered by solar. Electrical outages are part of life in Nepal, however, it is easy to adapt since Shanti Yoga Ashram has solar energy for heating water and gas or fire for cooking. They have lights that are battery-powered, not dependent on the coming and going of electricity.

The breath is the linking point between the body and mind. Prana is that life-force which you extract from the breath. When this life-force is increased, your brain function and overall health greatly improve. The science of Tantra states that the awakening of prana or the liberation of energy is the key to super conscious states.

Four groups of pranayama practices

Sensitizing pranayama

To control the pranas, you must first learn where the pranas are, how they move, and how they function with the help of mudras, mantras, and awareness.

Vitalizing pranayama

Vitalizing pranayama is a dynamic pranayama to cleanse and activate the body and mind for increased alertness and energy. Your old breathing pattern may not be proper in terms of length of inhale and exhale, which means the prana flow is not at its optimum level. Vitalizing pranayama deletes the old pattern of breathing so that a new pattern can be installed.

Balancing pranayama

Here is where you re-install the proper breathing pattern to balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain activity, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, and Prana Shakti and Manas Shakti (vital and mental force). The left and right nostrils become equally active; which naturally extends the period of awakened spiritual energy thereby increasing creativity and the blissfulness.

Tranquilizing pranayama

Traquilizing pranayama relaxes the mind even further while drawing the awareness inside which leads to increased psychic sensitivity.

    Prakash is the founder and chairman of Shanti Yoga Ashram. He has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years both at home and abroad. He has a great capacity to transmit the spiritual essence of Tantra yoga to his students with full joy and love. His personal attention and care for every student make everyone feel at home. His deep love for yoga is reflected in his classes. The way he totally imbibes yoga allows him to transport his students to a complete state of tranquility and bliss.

    Guillaume has spent the last five years exploring Africa and India, learning from diverse traditions, spiritual masters, and seekers. He has been practicing meditation since his teenage years and has understood its importance in elevating one’s mind and building a stronger foundation with self and society. Guillaume firmly believes that yoga is a way of peace, harmony, and self-reliance. He studies, practices, and teaches Tantra yoga. Guillaume enjoys to play instruments and is also adept in singing bowl therapies and guided meditations, which he considers the most beautiful gifts on earth.

This yoga retreat will take place in Machhegaun, Nepal.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food. This includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread).

The kitchen is a cozy, family-sized room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden.

Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!
