Mystical mama yoga is the yoga of spiritual practice. True to its mystical mama roots, this prenatal practice is derived from different yoga traditions, such as Ashtanga Vinyasa, Sivananda, and Iyengar. It is designed beyond form and tradition and aims to encompass the essence of yoga and spirituality as a practice of union.
School Yoga Institute will guide each class with ease, intention, and with the highest regard for the pregnant mother. They focus on the roots of their yoga tradition, where yoga is used as an instrument to reveal the truth of their existence as spiritual beings. Their yoga teacher training is a holistic program, to understand yoga you must first understand one’s self, body, mind, and spirit.
They use the four directions of the Native American medicine wheel as a guide and foundational structure for the course. Within each direction, they will focus on different types of movement, nourishment, and meditation to meet the mother goddess. They bring to life the ancient teachings of wise women all over the world, through accessible and intuitive based teaching methods.
During the 85-hour teacher training program, you will work through the traditional Peruvian shamanic medicine wheel in a process of embodying the transformation that a pregnant woman undergoes. You will learn tools to modify numerous yoga poses to accommodate mother at differing stages of gestation through detailed anatomy and physiology modules, as well as guidance and feedback on creating your own unique sequences.
Continue to live the yogic lifestyle, improve your personal practice, and develop a deep appreciation for the role of mother and the goddess archetype. You will incorporate daily meditation, pranayama, and asana specific to fertility prenatal fertility. Explore the art of teaching through interactive daily workshops and learn through regular peer-teaching starting day one.
Hone in on the art of creating sacred space and honoring the divine feminine through the ceremonies of the Blessingway, the Birth Labyrinth, belly casting, henna painting, special songs, poetry, mother art, natural self-care, and creative writing. Participate in daily satsang, evening gathering, and learn traditional Kirtan chants from India and the rest of the world.
Study the wisdom passed down from the sages on topics pertaining to pregnancy and birth through their "Tea with The Sages" module. Daily discussions are based on material from School Yoga Institute’s recommended reading list. Learn the ancient art of placenta medicine, as well as how to create a 30-day baby moon for mother and baby. Explore yoga for labor preparation and poses for birth.
Discuss the important roles that birth partners play in the mother’s life, as well as create conscious community, sisterhood, and a sense of belonging. Mothers must be mothered in order to mother their babies. Discuss how to support a woman through infertility, miscarriage, and infant loss, using their knowledge of yoga, meditation, ritual, ceremony, self-care, and community.
This comprehensive program will leave you feeling fully empowered to not only guide a pregnant mother through a safe and effective yoga experience, but to walk with her on this most sacred transformational journey.
Gabriella Taralita Marie Luo
Gabriella’s teaching passion is sharing yoga with the souls inside mothers in Prenatal yoga. In her classes, she connects deeply with Mother Earth and working on emerging the inner wisdoms you have buried inside of you waiting to be revealed and called upon.
Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the briny Atlantic coast of Canada, Kate has been working in the service of pregnant women for seven years and teaching yoga for three years. Starting her journey in the birth world as a volunteer doula, she immediately knew, in her bones, that this work was a calling. After several years of offering support to women birthing in hospitals, gaining ever more experience, much of the standard protocols and common procedures of medicalized birth ceased to make any sense to me at all.
Mystical Yoga Farm is located approximately three and a half hours drive from Guatemala City. School Yoga Institute has been offering up to six teacher training courses each year for three years now and have never experienced any difficulties around their students’ safety in Guatemala. They are very confident that once you arrive here, you will feel at home.
The kitchen is for farm staff use only. If you have special dietary needs you are welcome to bring essential items with you. Non-refrigerated storage space will be provided for these items. Food and beverages are not permitted in sleeping quarters, three vegetarian meals are provided, and tea is available all day.
During your free time, Mystical Yoga Farm offers two permaculture courses and a temazcal which is a traditional Mayan Sauna, available for use every few days. It is a sacred space for cleansing, healing, and rejuvenation of the mind, body, and spirit. They also have a boat that you can hire for private trips, Santiago for 50 GTQ, Pana 225 for GTQ, San Marcos for 200 GTQ, and San Pedro for 200 GTQ. Please consult with the farm manager to arrange a boat.
Please book your flight to arrive at La Aurora International Airport (GUA). From the airport, you can go directly to Pana and take a boat to the farm, or you can spend the night in Antigua and travel to Pana the next day.
From the boat dock, take a public boat to Santiago. All you need to do is say to someone ‘a Santiago’ and they will lead you in the right direction. These public boats run every half hour and cost 3 USD per person. Once the boat or ‘lancha’ is full, it takes around 45 minutes from Pana to Santiago. You can hire a private boat for approximately 25 USD and the last boat is usually at 6:00 p.m.
From Santiago, take a private boat five to eight minutes across the lake to the farm. Ask for Guiermo, Francisco, or Jose the boat driver to take you to the Finca de Yoga. There is a round yoga shala with a thatched roof at the front of the property.
If you would like a direct shuttle service to the farm, consider taking Santiago shuttle. Please email School Yoga Institute to inquire to find more information. They offer reliable and safe shuttles from La Aurora International Airport (GUA) directly to the farm. The journey from the airport to the farm takes approximately three and a half hours by car followed by a 10-minute boat ride.
If your flight arrives before 1:00 p.m., you have a good chance of making it to the farm in one day. You can book a direct shuttle from the airport to Pana. It is about a three and a half-hour drive.
If you want to set up a transfer from the airport to Antigua, it is easy. You can email your hotel to set it up, or you can email a shuttle company directly.
From Antigua to Panajachel (Pana), you can typically schedule shuttles at any tour agency or even at the hostel you are staying at. There is a shuttle at 8:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. It is about a three and a half-hour shuttle ride and typically costs around 10 USD.
For people who are staying at the Internacional Mochilero, walk across the street to the Casa Amarilla (yellow house) and get a shuttle to Lake Atitlan for 20 USD. However, do not go through the Plus Travel Agency for shuttles, especially to Atitlan. There is a road that is washed out so you have to take a detour and need a reliable 4WD vehicle.
