This winter retreat is set in a cluster of gorgeous, meticulously converted barns, in the heart of rural Norfolk. A tonic to the January blues, Satvada Retreats' intention is to offer a friendly, nourishing weekend, suitable for both complete beginners to mindfulness, and those more experienced, seeking a refresher. Enjoy winter walks, chats by the wood burner, delicious vegetarian cooking, and optional yoga classes to complement the mindfulness practices.
You will be staying in comfortable en-suite rooms, double or twin rooms suitable for single, twin or double occupancy. All rooms are en-suite, and on the luxury side, with large, comfortable beds, luxury toiletries, under-floor heating.
The rather gorgeous venue formed of bedrooms and cottages built around a central courtyard, could be described as luxurious, and a little funky. These old barns have been converted maintaining the original beams, lime and flint walls and the design has been modeled on big open spaces.

This deeply nourishing Friday-to-Monday retreat offers a balanced schedule of mindfulness, optional yoga, top-notch vegetarian cooking, periods of silence, country walks in the surrounding 21-acre estate, rest and relaxation.
The weekend has been designed for both complete beginners to mindfulness (and yoga), as well as those with an established practice, seeking a refresher. The intention is to present a core range of mindfulness practices in a thoroughly accessible way, and, in order for the body to be still for a while in more comfort, to combine periods of meditation with optional Mindful Movement / yoga sessions. Satvada Retreats will be encouraging you to turn off mobile phones and all technology during this short time.
All this in a framework of enhancing overall wellbeing at this testing time of year over the four days, formal practice sessions will be enhanced by:
Regular periods of formal mindfulness practice in the beautiful yoga / meditation barn will form the heart of the weekend. These sessions will be weaved into your day, with the Saturday and Sunday including four led mindfulness sessions per day, and two optional periods of yoga, including one Restorative yoga session. Most sessions will be between 30 and 60 minutes long, with longer periods interspersed with group discussion and an intentional change in posture - and will be taught in a way that is as comfortable for the body as possible (for example: plenty of standing and walking meditation).

It is a way of experiencing the world that is kind, open, receptive and curious, as well as being sensory-based. Everyone has an inherent capacity for mindfulness, regardless of age, sex or religion / absence of.
Over the last 18 months, and partly due to over 100 studies showing its benefits to one’s wellbeing, mindfulness has experienced a huge surge of interest in the west. As on this retreat, mindfulness meditation is usually taught in an entirely secular way.
The barns are surrounded by acres of floating water meadows, ancient trees, lakes and formal gardens for you to explore at your leisure. If weather permits, you will be taking some silent mindful walks among this scenery.

You will be served plenty of wholesome but delicious vegetarian meals, fruits and afternoon tea daily.
The nearest train station is Downham Market. Trains run from London Kings Cross to Downham Market every hour and every half hour at certain peak times. Satvanda Retreats will organize a transfer from Downham Market to the retreat centre to meet a designated train on Friday afternoon. The cost of the transfer is roughly 30 GBP each way for the whole taxi, shared between however many guests are travelling.
