Sanctuary Hill provides shared accommodation with two or three guests per room. The maximum number for each group is 12 guests. If you would like a private room, they can offer you a double bedroom during your stay. Their modern luxury bedrooms are equipped with 100 percent cotton linen and towels. They also have an option for couples to accommodate in a king-size bedroom. They invite their guests to unwind, take a walk, explore the property, read a book from their library, journal, connect with nature and wildlife, and relax in the hot tub.

Programme

Yoga

All activities in this program are included and the opportunity to attend all of the yoga and meditation sessions. The schedule is designed to include two yoga classes a day, apart from Friday which will only include one yoga class after your arrival. Morning classes are intended to be with more movement to start that day and warm-up. In this retreat, you will focus on gentle and destressing practices.

The evening classes are a Restorative style to prepare you for a goodnight's sleep. You specialize in traditional Hatha and Restorative styles. Beginners to yoga will get an introduction to yoga postures, breathing practices, and relaxation techniques, while the more experienced will be guided in how to deepen their practice. Sanctuary Hill feels dedicated to your personal evolution. Their team of wellness experts provides workshops and education to help you achieve your health-related goals.

Their guest speakers and lifestyle mentors support deep inner work to facilitate lasting and real change in your mindset and perspective toward healthy living. You will learn more about quality sleep, stress management, healthy eating habits, and food choices to take home knowledge that sustains your well-being.

Workshops

The workshops in this retreat will be focused on the five principles of health through proper exercise, proper breathing, proper relaxation, proper diet, and positive thinking. Whether you are new to yoga or its your favourite way to unwind, we would love to share with you our passion to enhance our energy levels and optimize your body and mind.

There will be a Wellness guest speaker - to be announced.

Included massage therapy: you will have a 30-minute therapy with a specialized therapist. This is an ideal treat to de-stress and rejuvenate yourself.

Youwill enjoy a Sound Healing evening session on Saturday. The crystal ‘singing’ bowl is made of quartz and the effect upon the body and consciousness of the individual is tremendous. Crystal Sound baths help to facilitate a shift in your brain waves so that a deep state of meditation and internal healing can occur.

Crystal sound therapy is just one way of achieving a meditative state without having to master the practice of meditation. This experience is perfect for beginners however those more experienced can reach a theta state (deep meditation) or even a delta state (where internal healing can occur).

How to prepare

  • On the two weeks leading up to the retreat, take some time to contemplate what your intention is for the retreat. Go for a walk, do some journalling, take a long bath, hit the hot pools. Ask yourself, what do I want to experience? How do I want to feel after this retreat? What is this retreat about for me?
  • Try to refrain from having any intoxicants the week leading up to the retreat, including alcohol and coffee. Also, be mindful of how much sugar you're putting in your system.
  • If possible, try not to plan too much following the retreat. You want to allow time and space for integration after the retreat. It is often nice to have some space for yourself to allow the process of the retreat to continue as long as possible.

Excursions

Sanctuary Hill provides group transportation to enjoy time in nature in a guided group walk in the surrounding areas of Taranaki. Weather permitting, your Saturday walk will be in a forest area where the trail is mildly steep in some areas. This walk will have a duration of 90 minutes. Suggested things to bring are hiking shoes, a small pack, and a water bottle.

Notable features are the botanic gardens (Pukekura Park), the critically acclaimed Len Lye Center and Art Gallery, the 11-kilometer (6.8 miles) coastal walkway alongside the Tasman Sea, the Len Lye-designed artwork known as the Wind Wand, Paritutu Rock, and views of Mount Taranaki or Egmont. New Plymouth Airport (NPL) has daily services from Air New Zealand and Jetstar airlines.
