The Van Surfari is the ultimate surf trip for surfers of all levels. Get off the beaten track and explore the best secrets of the Spanish and French Coastline. The day will start with exploring the awesome coastlines in search for the best waves to ride and coolest towns to partake in their culture. After a day of surf and adventure, the group will either pitch the tents and overnight in an awesome spot or head back to the surf house. No matter where you are, you can always count on daily chef-prepared meals, great stories, and a fresh beer or sangria to top off the day.
During this surf camp, you will either stay in a dorm room style accommodation in the stoke surf house located in the beautiful Pagoeta National Park with bedding included or at a camping accommodation with self-inflating mattresses and sleeping bags, depending on the weather and waves.
What was once an active traditional farmhouse is now transformed into a surfer's haven, it has panoramic views overlooking the North Atlantic ocean and Basque countryside. The new surf house offers a hub for like-minded travelers from all around the world to surf the picture-perfect summer waves of Playa Zarautz.
Just like a normal safari, the day's plan is never set in stone. The group will start the day bright and early to enjoy a home-cooked breakfast, then pack the van and hit the road in search of the best waves and the biggest kicks of the day! Regardless of how it looks, your days will be filled with delicious food, incredible scenery, world-class waves, and tons of booze.
There are some places likely to chase waves to your surfari, Sebastian Surf Camp will try to fit in as many locations and as much fun as they can swell and conditions permitting. Their knowledge of the areas will ensure to find a wave that is suited to you no matter your surfing ability.
This surf camp will take place in Basque Country in Spain and France. The whole concept of a surfari is to be out on the open road hunting those perfect waves. Therefore, the group will be cruising between Bordeaux in France and Bilbao in Spain, as well as going further afield if the waves call. At the end of the day, the group will retreat back to the surf house in Aia or find an epic campsite to partake in the evening events.
You will be served with three hearty chef-prepared meals daily, as well as lunch on the beach or in the house, to enjoy eating in the sunshine after your surf. Moreover, other dietary requirements can be catered as well.
Please book your flight to arrive at San Sebastián Airport (EAS), Bilbao Airport (BAO) or Biarritz Pays Basque Airport (BIQ).
If you fly to Bilbao Airport, buses leave hourly from Bilbao Airport to Zarautz at San Pelaio bus station. Jump on your pre-arranged pickup from there. Or you can catch the Euskotren to San Pelaio Station in Zarautz and jump on your pre-arranged pick up from there.
If you fly into Biarritz, the best way to get to San Sebastian Surf Camp from Biarritz International Airport is by taking a French SNCF train to Hendaye. Change to the nearby Euskotren station which is located just outside the SNCF station. Finally, take an Euskotren to San Pelaio, Zarautz for your pickup. Each train ride is between 30-40 minutes, with the total train trip costing less than 10 EUR.
If you fly into San Sebastian, the best way to get to San Sebastian Surf Camp from San Sebastian airport is to take E21 or E23 bus from the airport to San Sebastian which run about every 30 minutes. Get off at the Amara bus stop. From there across the road and jump on the Euskotren. Head to San Pelaio train station and make sure you let San Sebastian Surf Camp knows when to come and collect you from Zarautz!
If you arrive by bus in San Sebastian, simply walk across the road from the bus station to the Euskotren and jump on a train in the direction of Bilbao to San Pelaio train station in Zarautz for your pre-arranged pickup.
The train station in the centerof San Sebastián the “Estación del Norte”, offers connections to numerous Spanish cities including Madrid and Barcelona, and to international destinations such as Paris and Lisbon. if you arrive by Renfe Train, jump on the Euskotren to San Pelaio Station for pre-arranged pickup from there.
There is also an underground railway, the Metro Donostialdea, a train connection with Bilbao and cities along the Basque Coast, such as Zarautz. The service also links Hendaye (France) and the SNCF, French rail service, with Lasarte passing through Donostia. You can catch this train to San Sebastian and Zarautz from Bilbao.
