Perhaps sit by the Ganga and watch the sunset? Join me together with a local yogi in holy Rishikesh, the world's capital of yoga, for a life changing experience as we show you the totality of yoga on and off the mat.

During your retreat you will be accommodated at the Yoga Niketan Ashram. You will stay in an ashram-style single, clean, and safe room with private bathroom. Double room is available upon request. During the hot season, airconditioned rooms are offered. You will also find a desk, chair, and an armchair, a little porch or balcony to relax or read your favorite book. Towels, soap, and toilet paper are provided. All rooms are simple, yet quaint and immersed in a lush greenery. The yoga studio is fully equipped with mats, block, straps, and bolsters and is located at a walking distance from each accommodation.

Programme

  • 05:15 Wake up call (bell will be rung)
  • 06:30 90 minutes yoga (Hatha, Vinyasa, Bhakti, Kriya, pranayama, and short meditation
  • 09:00 Library time/self study
  • 12:00 Lunch
  • 13:00 Kirtan/mantra chanting
  • 16:00 Ayurvedic tea served in dining hall
  • 16:30 90 minutes class Yin, Restorative yoga, yogic philosophy, meditation (yoga Nidra)
  • 19:15 Dinner
  • 21:00 Goodnight

Please note that on excursion days the schedule will change. We will inform you of such changes the day before. Silence will be observed on the Ashram premises every Thursday.

Excursions

Enjoy excursions in the Himalayas and sunrise meditation. Visit temples and sacred caves. Join Indian traditional ceremonies such as puja and rate (fire ceremony) by the holy river Ganga. Participate in Kirtan.

Elena de Lalla
Elena is an Italian/American certified Yoga instructor who teaches Atma Yoga, a holistic healing style created by Saul David Raye - Elena’s classes, open to all levels of students, include a dynamic flow of asana, pranayama, ayurvedic tips, and meditation. Eclectic energy work together with teachings from Bhakti, Tantra, and Shamanism are at the core of her classes. Elena is passionate about yogic philosophy and Hindu mythology. Her enthusiasm in sharing her love for the sacred practice yoga is contagious.
Vimal Barthwal
Born and raised in Rishikesh, Vimal’s journey as a yogi began years ago with his studies at the Bihar School of Yoga and continued at the Sivananda Vedanta Academy in Rishikesh. Vimal lived alone for 1 year in a cave in the Himalayas, on the banks of the river Ganga. This unique experience has permitted him to deeply understand the real meaning of living a yogic life. Move Your Spirit Yoga is centrally located at the Yoga Niketan Ashram, one of the most renowned in Rishikesh, the world's capital of yoga. Strategically situated on a little hill, with a breathtaking view of the river Ganga, away from crowds and noises. Since the samadhi (tomb) of Guru Yogeshwarananda - right by the yoga hall - fills the space with sacred energy, the atmosphere is particularly peaceful and conducive to meditation, yoga, and self-discovery.

Afternoon Ayurvedic tea is offered daily at 4:00 pm and the library, open most of the day and evening, offers a wide selection of yogic texts also in English. Wi-fi available at the library during specific hours.

Repas

At Move Your Spirit Yoga we serve a vegetarian menu in keeping with yoga practice. The food is ample, tasty, mostly organic, and prepared in the ashram's kitchen. Enjoy a large selection of Indian choices, inclusive of fresh seasonal fruits and desserts. Ayurvedic tea is offered with every meal and in the afternoon. Filter water is available 24/7.

Arrival by train

5 hour trip on Shatabdi Express from New Delhi railway station to Haridwar. You can then take a taxi from Haridwar to Rishikesh (1 hour). We will meet you at the Ashram.
