During this retreat, you will stay either in a private, double, or twin room at the MoaAlm Mountain Retreat guest house. The recently renovated guest house can accommodate a maximum of 12 to 15 guests. You will stay in a room with panoramic views and an en-suite bathroom. The rooms are stylishly decorated and spacious (sizes vary up to 24 square meters), and some of them have balconies.

All rooms can be made up with one double or two single beds. Three of the rooms can also be made up into triple rooms and are ideal for families. After an active day in the outdoors, you can enjoy the astonishing view at the sunny terrace or relax in the living room with a shared dining table.

The in-house yoga studio has a panoramic mountain view and is the perfect place for an active start of the day. In the morning, the sun rise fills the room with energy and the late afternoon turns the mountains pink. The studio is equipped with mats and props to support you in your poses.

During this retreat, your yoga instructor Barbara will be guiding you through one daily meditation session and two yoga classes each day. You will start the morning with a 30 minute guided meditation, followed by a Vinyasa style yoga class, this will be a dynamic flow of poses that link the movement with the breath. The afternoon session will be a soothing Restorative or Yin practice, where the poses will be held for a longer period of time, so the body will have the chance to restore and renew.

The yoga classes are accessible to all levels. Experience in yoga is not needed, so even if you don’t have any experience you are more than welcome to join. The maximum of participants is 10, so you will get plenty of personal attention.

This holiday is something for you if you need a break from daily life, if you want to intensify your yoga and meditation practice, if you love the mountains, or if you just like to treat yourself and enjoy life! The beautiful surroundings of the Alps will help you to go home with a clear and calm mind, and a happy heart. You will find yourself relaxed, renewed, and inspired! All yoga and meditation sessions are optional, you can always choose to sleep in or do an additional activity when you feel the need to.

During the week, the certified mountain hiking guide will offer guided walks in the area. The MoaAlm Mountain Retreat will love to share their knowledge of the mountains and are keen to show you the most beautiful places that the Hohe Tauern national park has to offer. The guided hikes will take up to four hours. If you have a basic fitness level and no serious knee injuries, you will be able to participate.

All activities are optional, you are welcome to stay in or around the house to relax and your hosts will be happy to provide you with maps and suggestions if you like to go out for a self-guided walk. The program is subjected to weather conditions and group preferences. In the middle of the week there will be a day-off. This will give you a chance to rest and digest or to be active and undertake optional activities.

About Vinyasa yoga

Vinyasa is a flowing type of yoga in which all movements are linked to one and other. Every class can be different. Barbara likes to work with themes and often focuses the classes on a specific muscle group or part of the body. Vinyasa yoga helps to build muscles that are strong and flexible at the same time.

About Restorative yoga

Restorative yoga is a very relaxing, meditative kind of yoga. It requires no muscle activity whatsoever. In the Restorative classes you only practice six to 10 poses that you hold for a longer period of time. Loads of props like pillows, blocks, or blankets are used to support the body in it's poses. Restorative yoga is about relaxing the body completely, whilst keeping the mind crystal clear and present.

This retreat includes a daily guided hike excursion through the Hohe Tauern national park and the surrounding Austrian Alps. The guided hikes will take up to four hours. If you have a basic fitness level and no serious knee injuries you will be able to participate.

    Nelly is a professional 300-hour RYT yoga teacher. She loves yoga because it helps her connect to her body, listen to the body, understand what the body needs, and what it is capable of. Nelly hopes to empower her students and help them build a routine of physical exercise and relaxation in their often busy daily lives.

This retreat will take place at the MoaAlm Mountain Retreat in Kals am Grossglockner, Austria. The retreat is situated in the East Tyrol region at 1,800 meters in the middle of the Hohe Tauern national park, above the small community of Kals am Grossglockner. The retreat is surrounded by unspoiled nature and wildlife. Green meadows filled with flowers, high peaks with snow caps, and gorgeous water water streams are all around.

During this retreat, you will enjoy a daily organic breakfast and dinner plus drinks. This retreat includes fresh fruit and tea available all day, along with a daily afternoon tea and cake. The MoaAlm Mountain Retreat serves fresh fruits, oats and cereals, bread, eggs, and much more.

After an active day in the outdoors, you can warm-up with a cup of tea and enjoy a freshly baked cake. At dinner, the chef will surprise you with a delicious three-course meal made with lots of love and attention.

Food tastes best when it grows close-by, therefore, the ingredients are local, fresh, and organic whenever possible. Special diets such as vegetarian, vegan, lactose free, gluten free, and others can be accommodated. Please share your special dietary requirements as you book your holiday.

In the middle of the week, there will be a day off where you will be able to spend free time for yourself. You can relax at the outdoor wood fired hot tub with amazing mountain views, that invites you the literally relax your muscles and breath the fresh mountain air.

The hot tub will be heated a few times per week and ready for your use! After a few days of yoga and hiking, it might also be nice to get a massage. You can book a massage in the nearby spa hotel that offers excellent treatments such as aromatic massages and facials.

If you like a little bit extra adventure, the MoaAlm Mountain Retreat can organize additional activities such as mountain biking, rafting, canyoning, paragliding, or rock climbing for you. Another option is to take a day trip to the picturesque town of Lienz to browse the market and shops or to taste the local wines.

During this retreat, you can book a massage for an additional cost in the nearby spa hotel that offers excellent treatments such as aromatic massages and facials.

Driving directions from Kals am Grossglockner

  • Drive through the village past the church and the small supermarket.
  • At the first Y-fork, keep right, following the green signs for "MoaAlm".
  • At the second fork, keep left at the beautiful wooden house with the blue and white balconies.
  • Keep all the way to the right at the third and final fork, driving past a small parking area and up the mountain to MoaAlm.
  • From the final fork, it is a 10-minute drive to MoaAlm.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Salzburg Airport (SZG) or Innsbruck Airport (INN). There are different options for transferring from these airports to MoaAlm that include public transportation, airport shuttle taxi, or a car rental. The MoaAlm team will help you sort out the best option for you.

Airlines are constantly changing routes and the only way to make sure you have an up to date guide is by going directly to the websites. Guests have also flown into Munich International Airport (MUC) and to Ljubljana Airport (LJU). If you arrive into one of these, MoaAlm advises to rent a car to transfer to MoaAlm.

Arrival by bus

You can travel by bus from Innsbruck and Salzburg to Lienz or Huben villages by public transportation. From Innsbruck main train station, there is a direct bus to Lienz four times per day. This is often the cheapest but most time-consuming option.

Arrival by shuttle

There are taxis that operate from Salzburg Airport (SZG) or Innsbruck Airport (INN). In summer, the tourist office provides a shuttle for a fixed price from 55 up to 160 EUR per person, one-way. Please send an inquiry to MoaAlm to book this transfer.

Arrival by train

You can travel by train from Innsbruck and Salzburg to Lienz or Huben. Upon arrival to Innsbruck main train station, you can take a direct bus to Lienz. MoaAlm can pick you up in Lienz or Huben villages.
