In this training, you will learn an excellent foundation to all the basic poses, how to avoid injuries, and the necessities in adapting poses and sequences for all physical levels and needs.

Accommodation includes a big traditional villa and a townhouse. Both have easy access to the village swimming pool, cafe, bar, and shops. Food is prepared and served in the main villa where some classes are also held. The main yoga hall is an easy five-minute walk from both locations. The program

This 200 hours Hatha yoga teacher training is registered by Yoga Alliance International and International Yoga Federation. The course reflects an energetic and therapeutic approach to yoga in line with the instructors' wide-ranging experience (which includes: 30 years experience as a professional Shiatsu therapist and teacher). Sequences taught are designed to improve both strength and flexibility as well as bring awareness to the flow of subtle energy through the body.

This program will enable future graduates to teach with confidence. The sequences taught are designed to provide an excellent foundation to all the basic poses, to teach avoiding any injury and where necessary adapt poses and sequences for differing physical levels and needs. Emphasis is on getting prana (energy) to flow while doing the poses, to understand their therapeutic benefits and for each person to practice with enjoyment, correct breathing, and sincerity - ultimately harmonizing mind, body, and energy.

The spiritual notions of yoga can also be found in other philosophical systems such as Buddhism or the Western traditions such as Greek and Egyptian. This will be looked at more closely in the yoga philosophy classes.

200-hour course syllabus

Yoga asanas: 80 hours

Basic postures and variations, sun salutation, relaxation, abdominal breathing, full yogic breath, two pranayama techniques, advanced postures, and meditation.

Practice and teaching: 40 hours

Beginners and intermediary classes for all levels and ages (touches on classes for the elderly, children, and yoga for pregnancy).

Teaching techniques: guiding, coaching, leading, use of language and communication, use of props, hands-on assisting, finding your personal teaching style, designing classes for mixed levels, teaching new postures in depth, assessing individual needs, ethics, and safety guidelines.

Anatomy and physiology: 20 hours

  • Basic anatomy and physiology (with particular emphasis on respiration, circulation, and digestion)
  • Physiological and energetic effects of asanas, pranayama, meditation, and relaxation
  • Benefits and contra-indications for all asanas (poses)
  • Effects of structural and postural alignment on health and wellbeing
  • Physiological and emotional effect of stress
  • Principles of diet and nutrition

Philosophy, psychology, lifestyle, and ethics: 20 hours

  • Philosophy and aim of yoga
  • The five points of yoga
  • Prana (qi), Nadis (meridians), and chakras (energy centers)
  • The human energy field
  • The five koshas
  • The bandhas
  • The four paths of yoga
  • The eight limbs of yoga
  • Principles of self-development
  • Teacher-student relationship
  • Introduction to the Bhagavad Gita
  • Karma and reincarnation
  • The gunas
  • The yugas
  • Mantras and kirtans
  • Principles and benefits of meditation
  • Ethics for yoga teachers

Homework and group study: 20 hours

During the course, you will be given homework and group studies. These are 20-hour activities.

Other activities: 20 hours

Introduction to bodywork, Shiatsu, Chinese meridians, developing sensitivity, tuning into chakras and energy fields, chanting, DVD and other relevant documentaries.

Dress Code

This retreat requires you to wear plain white clothes with no logos. Plain yellow and blue clothes are also accepted.

  • 19:30 - 20:30 Supper and break
  • 20:30 - 22:30 Three evenings per week only (other activities)

This is an example of the daily schedule, please note times may change slightly due to season and location.

The course will be taught in English with translations in French if and when necessary. You may read the relevant literature in your own language. The practical part will be evaluated by continuous assessment and you may write the final exam in your own language.

Practitioners are advised to have a minimum of 100-hour yoga experience. It is also helpful for students to have a basic understanding of the philosophy of yoga, lifestyle, and diet. However, all these subjects will also be taught during the course.

Successful applicants should be in general good health both physically and emotionally, in order to complete this course with the focus and dedication it requires. Individuals who do not meet these minimum requirements may apply for a place and their applications will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

    Gerry est un professeur de yoga expérimenté enregistré auprès de Yoga Alliance Professionals, de la Fédération Internationale de Yoga et de Yoga Alliance International. Il a commencé par la pratique du yoga Iyengar. Il est certifié en tant que thérapeute et professeur de yoga et possède plus de 25 ans d'expérience. Il est le fondateur et directeur de SYM-Ltd et a enseigné le yoga, le shiatsu, la médecine chinoise et d'autres cours en France, en Espagne, en Grèce, en Italie et en Grande-Bretagne.

Cervera Del Maestre is a small village in the mountains 16 kilometers inland from Benicarló, on the Spanish Costa del Azahar, two hours drive south of Barcelona, and one hour north of Valencia. The region is well known for its abundant agricultural produce, beaches, mountains, and historical towns and villages.

The price include two main meals per day, lunch and dinner. HolidaYoga advises students not to eat any breakfast before the morning asana class. All meals are vegetarian and prepared by the cook at the house and will include a complete vegan option as well.

On your free time, you can go for a swim at the swimming pool, explore the local surroundings, or just sit back and relax.

In addition to the healing modalities explored in the course, students have the opportunity to arrange private treatments with Gerry, a certified therapist in shiatsu, traditional Chinese medicine. Remedial massage is also available. These can be arranged at an additional cost during the course.
