Copal features large open areas for practice, open floor living, and dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, five bedrooms that accommodate up to 13 guests each with en-suite bathroom, private access to beach or terrace facing the ocean, paddleboards bikes and snorkel equipment, free Wi-Fi internet, fresh coconut water, tea, and three gourmet meals prepared by Cordon Bleu Chef Shawn Davis.

Copal has five separate beachfront studios, of which two are on third floor with the most spectacular views of the Mexican Riviera, and three separate studios on ground level.

Unit 1A

You will wake to this amazing ocean view room, it is a beachfront single occupancy room which has a shared bathroom for three people. The room has a double bed.

Unit 1B

This is a basic double occupancy room which has a shared bathroom for three. Although Unit 1 is beachfront, this double room does not have an ocean view but when you walk out of your room, you will be on your private beach. It has two double beds and a closet that could be shared with a friend, and they should be able to share the living room space, bathroom, and kitchen with the second bathroom occupant of Unit 1A.

Unit 2

This is a quadruple room. This room has two double beds and two singles bunk style and is perfect for sharing with a group of friends. This room is beachfront as well, with a nice little beach, and sitting area and swings on the patio.

Unit 3

This is a basic very small double occupancy room with en-suite bathroom and nice view of ocean.

Unit 4

This is an oceanfront double occupancy room with en-suite bathroom, and is everyone's favorite. Ideally, it can be shared with a friend or partner. It has two double beds, full kitchen, with a living room and the most wonderful view of sunrise and sunset of the Mexican Caribbean.

Unit 5

This is ocean front double occupancy room with en-suite bathroom. This unit, like Unit 4, is a favorite as well, it has amazing views. It does not have a sitting area or a kitchen, and it also is ideal if shared with a friend, or partner, as it has two double beds.

Single occupancy

This room has single bathroom option and is available on request.

Copal Retreat offer a much-needed break from the hectic city life and modern life’s woes. Yet, should you want to experience the lively, cultural side of the Mayan Riviera, you will find the best restaurants, trendiest bars, Mayan ruins, and great shopping just minutes away. The essence of what peaceful simplicity should be and more.

Just imagine what it would be like to sip on a fresh coconut and practice yoga while savoring the sight of the starry sky on elevated roof terrace with an extensive roof top deck and the most amazing views of the Mexican Caribbean and lush tropical greens, while listening to the soothing sound of the ocean.

Welcome ceremony with Mexican cuencos is included in the package. It is a very traditional ceremony led by Daniel Alvarado Garcia using Mexican brass bowls in a similar way to Tibetan Buddhists. These bowls use their acute sound-waves to cleanse one spiritually and physically. Daniel, the leader, also uses this time to bless you before beginning a week of yoga and good health.

One massage is included in the package. Local masseurs can offer several types of massage, either on the beach or at the balcony at the retreat.

For the January 28 - February 3, 2018, retreat, Vincent Lu will be teaching the retreat.

You will learn how to bring what you learn on the mat, off the mat as you immerse yourself in this yoga retreat. You will join Vincent and his ever-present sense of humor and ability to bring authenticity and realness to every class, as you explore the deeper in-workings of yoga. All that can be learned, felt, practiced, and cultivated on the yoga mat, can be interwoven into daily living to bring fluidity, clarity, and a sense of calm and peace.

Although there will be two daily yoga practices, a dynamic morning flow and a deep evening Yin, the chance to practice yoga will be apparent and available in all things, the sand, the water, the air, the food, and the people.

This retreat is about being present, taking time for yourself, enjoying where you are and what you are doing, and above all else having fun and letting go. This retreat is suitable for any level of yoga practice.

For the March 19 - 25, 2018 retreat, Daniela Manzur will be teaching the retreat.

You will be working on the classic sequences with some modifications. This work will challenge you to focus on your roots, creating conscience in the ‘here and now’ by letting go of the mind and connecting with your internal knowledge. This will lead you to a continuous physical body connection and a new perspective as a spectator of your own story.

You will have an excursion to Tulum. It is the only city that the Mayans ever built on the coast and very worth visiting. One of the structures is "el Castillo" which is perched on a 12-meter high cliff overlooking the Caribbean beaches below. After this, it will be time to head to the idyllic beaches of Tulum for a couple of hours.

After visiting the ruins, it is a short drive down to Zebra. Between 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., they offer a free salsa lesson, followed by a live band from 8:00 p.m. You will definitely enjoy a truly memorable experience and fantastic food. You will also be able to visit two local cenotes, Grand Cenote or Garden of Eden, which Copal Retreat recommends visiting. You can enjoy a picnic lunch there, and use of snorkel-gear will be included.

    YogaFit Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)

    Shawn wants to nurture you, challenge you, and show you that yoga is for you. She believes that yoga is for everyone, physically and emotionally, and she is determined to help you find your yoga. Shawn has completed her 500-hour training through YogaFit, 60-hour Yin training through Omniji, 100-hour trauma sensitive yoga training through YogaFit and Thai yoga, and massage through Navina. Her love of learning spills over into all aspects of her life and she is committed to life-long learning about yoga.

  • Lisa Anderson

    Lisa helps you identify and act on your potential so you can live a life of nourishment, clarity, and passion. When you know how you want to feel and set goals around your feelings, everyone around you benefits from a clearer, calmer, and connected you. For over 20 years, she has coached hundreds of people. She is a certified health coach, HR practitioner, and a desire-map and fire-starter facilitator. She is the owner of Lisa Anderson Solutions and focuses on career, life, and wellness coaching for busy professionals.

    Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500 (Yoga)

    Lynette is an E-RYT 500 teacher. She did her training in Maya yoga. Lynette is an advanced teacher in Restorative yoga with Judith Hanson Lasater, a certified Yin teacher with Bernie Clark, a certified yoga Nidra teacher with Brenda Feuerstein, and has taken prenatal yoga training with Janice Clarfield. She also works as a communications consultant and freelance writer. Lynette hopes to inspire others by living a creative and inspired life.

  • Sam Cress

    Since being introduced to yoga, Sam has realized that it is more than the practice of asana. She has witnessed the power, magic, and benefits of a consistent practice, both on and off the mat. She is living her dream sharing her passion for yoga in beautiful Puerto Vallarta.     Yoga Alliance RYT 500 (Yoga)

    Leslie is a self-expression muse, helping people get “unstuck.” Using the modalities of yoga, qoya, and writing, she helps you unshackle creativity, feel your body as an ally, and cultivate more self-intimacy. She is creator of Prose and Poses, and offers yoga and writing workshops and retreats. She holds an MFA in poetry from Purdue University. She teaches Literature and Poetry at Cal Poly and is a 500-hour RYT certified yoga teacher.

  • Vincent Lu

    Born and raised in Taiwan, Vincent has an unquenchable love of all that is sand, surf, sun, and yoga. He brings an eclectic and unique balance of both Eastern and Western styles of yoga, as well as a strong focus on anatomy and alignment, to his classes. Through years of dedicated study and practice, he has developed a focused personal practice that allows him to understand the varying paths his students travel in their own practice, helping them achieve fluidity of body and mind.

    Daniela Manzur will be one of the instructors of this retreat. She has been very fortunate to receive teachings from various masters that have traced her lifestyle forever.

This retreat will take place in Paamul, Mexico. Paamul is located along a curved stretch of shimmering Caribbean waters in a small bay south of Playa del Carmen. Paamul beach features white sands with some exposed limestone and lots of palm trees on the beach for natural shade. The offshore coral reef remains the most breathtaking and well-preserved attraction on Paamul beach, guests will enjoy hours of snorkeling, diving, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

Aquatic park

Aquatic park partly based in the Caribbean, including open buffet, snorkeling, zip lines, and unlimited access to water rides and jungle adventures. It will be a day trip leaving the house at 8:30 a.m., getting back to the house at about 6:00 p.m. The cost will be 90 USD per person.


Visiting a local lagoon or cenote is highliy recommended. Cost may differ between 40 to 70 CAD depending on the number of people going and the transportation is included.

Playa del Carmen

Copal Retreat is a 15-minute drive to the entertaining town of Playa del Carmen. This will be a night excursion, leaving after evening yoga in time for drinks and dinner in Playa del Carmen. Most shops stay open till 9:00 or 10 p.m. and the cost will be approximately 100 USD depending on numbers and how late they stay.

Scuba diving

You have two options on offer for scuba diving in the area:

  • Cozumel

Take the boat over to the island for some of the best dive sites in the world, this can change into a day trip too.

  • Akumal

This will be only a 15-minute drive to the local dive center there, which will cost 75 to 120 USD.


Copal Retreat have four SUP boards at the retreat. These can be taken out by those with experience or they have a local person who can give lessons. They have a local person who can give lessons for a fee which is not included in the retreat.


Temazcal is optional and can be enjoyed at an additional cost. Aztec ceremonial "steam" can be chosen to cleanse the body, mind, and spirit using local herbs. This excursion is suggested to do in the mid-week, so that everyone has time to acclimatize to the heat, especially as it will require a day of juicing or cleanse before you get there. It is a 45-minute drive from Copal, so it would be part of a day trip.
