You will be accommodated in double or triple rooms in a private beach house called La Talanguera in San Juan del Sur. Everybody is there to learn how to surf, to relax, to enjoy the sunny tropical weather, and to have a great time. This surf villa has a unique vibe that keeps bringing people back for more, and a perfect location.
You will be in a safe and quiet neighborhood far enough from the center of town, but close enough to walk to the main attractions. It takes two minutes to walk to the beach and seven minutes to walk to restaurants and bars. The swimming pool, spacious backyard with hammocks, communal areas, clean and comfortable rooms, and unique beach house atmosphere will provide an experience you will never forget.
This surf and yoga trip is for you if you are a total novice or intermediate surfer. You must be willing to coach yourself to improve your future surf sessions. You can join even if you have never practiced yoga before, and you are also welcome if you have a regular practice. Most importantly, you need to have the passion and desire to dive into the surf and yoga lifestyle in tropical paradise, and live a unique experience with like-minded travelers.
There will be a total of six professional surf lessons for the whole retreat, and two classroom lessons on surf theory and technique. You will also learn tips on surfing methods and local spots. Surf equipment for the lessons is included, and you will have the coaches from the national surf team of Nicaragua to guide you.
The ratio of instructor to student is one is to three. Professional photos of you surfing will be taken during the trip, and sent to your email after. Technique analysis will be discussed with each individual participant using these photos and videos during lessons.
The level one package is designed for either total beginners that have never tried surfing before, or for people that have tried surfing for a few days or weeks. If you want to learn the proper surf basics such as paddling, popping up, reading waves, and going right or left, this is the right package for you.
The level two package is designed for surfers that have been surfing for at least a few weeks. These surfers can swim through the white water efficiently, catch unbroken waves without assistance, and go right or left on a wave. Your surfing will be analyzed and the instructors will help you understand fundamental techniques to execute intermediate maneuvers.
You will practice and experience a style of yoga which blends the strength of Hatha, the restorative aspects of Yin, and the flow component of Vinyasa. The breathing techniques of pranayama, the meditative component of dhyana, and visualization exercises for surfing and moving through fears will also be imparted. This incredible combination is for those who are ready to take their lifestyle to the next level.
A classroom lesson titled Yoga for Surfing 101 will be held to explain to you the basics of stand-up paddle board, or SUP, yoga. There will be a total of four 80-minute professional yoga classes, two meditation sessions, and sharing of other tactics and tips for creating a better everyday lifestyle.
You will hike the Nicaraguan jungle in Rivas with an expert wildlife guide. Learn about the unique vegetation and wildlife of the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. You will most likely get the opportunity to see monkeys, sloths, anteaters, porcupines, and more.
You will paddle through the 365 islets of Granada on Lake Nicaragua. Discover the country’s native birds and unique vegetation while enjoying an amazing view of the Mombacho Volcano in the background.
For your surf lessons, you will explore the Maderas, Hermosa, and Remanso beaches.
You will also walk through the streets of this beautiful colonial city and get to see Spanish colonial landmarks that have survived the test of time.
This retreat will take place in the municipality of San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua. San Juan del Sur is blessed with some of the best surf beaches for beginners and intermediates in Central America. These beaches are safe to learn on due to their sandy bottom. With consistent offshore winds almost everyday of the year, surf conditions on the South Pacific coast of Nicaragua are among some of the most consistent on earth.
The waves there are typically two to four feet high between the months of December to April, and three to six feet high from May to November. In order for you to progress and learn to surf in a safe environment, you will be brought by the Barefoot surf team to the best surf spots according to your surf level and the daily conditions.
