Enjoy the beauty of the rainforest and the comforts of a refuge in charming private cabinas in Montezuma. The rooms/cabinas are elegantly designed with every detail focusing on protecting the environment. Most of the rooms have breathtaking ocean views, and Anamaya is proud to have used non-toxic building materials, organic fabrics, and local artisans to complete the stylish and intimate accommodations. All of the rooms have ceiling fans, air conditioning, and wonderful organic cotton or bamboo sheets.
2 kings or 4 twin beds, 1 day bed, and a large ocean view deck. Maximum occupancy of 5 people. There are two bathrooms -including a new large outdoor/garden bathroom in addition to the smaller bathroom inside.
1 queen and 1 split king beds. One of the newest cabinas! One cozy queen alcove bed and one king (or convertible to two twins) with a stunning ocean view. A spacious open-air bathroom, and a balcony with hammock make it a new Anamaya favorite.
1 king or 2 twin beds, plus one loft with twin bed. Outdoor shower. Maximum occupancy of 3 people. It is one of Anamaya's most popular even though it does not have the ocean view because guests will feel as if they are in the jungle canopy, living in a tree house.
The yoga deck is a huge draw for Anamaya, and probably the number one reason that people say they visit us. When we ask our guests how they made their decision of where to stay, its often the first thing that pops into their minds, I wanted to do yoga on that deck! High above the jungle and ocean below, its an unforgettable experience thats a dream-come-true for many.
Anamayas yoga retreat packages are the perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and health. You will soon be relaxing in the perfect tropical climate, enjoy the warm clean waters, healthy gourmet organic food, and doing yoga daily. Anamaya also has massage, and an infra-red sauna, and it is located right next to Montezumas world famous waterfall. Within a five minute walk, you will be relaxing in a huge natural freshwater pool, surrounded by primary forest populated by monkeys, toucans, parrots, and other animals. In addition, you will be taken to the most amazing white sand beaches around, which were chosen to be in the top 10 most beautiful in the world by Forbes magazine.
This yoga retreat package offers flexibility so that it will be ideal for you whether you prefer to spend most of your time relaxing and recharging your energy, or you prefer an adrenaline-filled vacation to Costa Rica. If adventure is what you are after, Anamaya will book a different exciting adventure for you every day. Or you could just relax in paradise and enjoy being barefoot for days on end.
In addition to the famous Montezuma Falls which are right next to Anamaya's facility, guests can visit another impressive waterfall, which is a twenty-minute drive from Anamaya. This amazing waterfall is unmarked and rarely visited by tourists. It consists of a long series of pools that drop one into the other, and one large pool with a rope swing.
Montezuma and Costa Rica are famous for their horse culture. The areas cowboys, and cowgirls, still use horses to round up and move their cattle from pasture to pasture. You will be put on horseback to ride down the beach, and visit the remote and undeveloped Playa Grande, Playa Cocolito, and El Chorro waterfall, which pours off a cliff and splashes into the sea. An additional charge of 40 USD is applicable.
Montezumas canopy tour zips right past Anamaya on a series of several steel cables. If you are into adrenaline and action, this is an activity that you will love. Perfectly safe, you will find yourself zooming high above the treetops and river below at high speeds, experiencing life as only birds and arboreal creatures usually do.
Fishing, boating, scuba, and snorkeling are all staples of the Montezuma experience. Anamaya can charter a local boat to provide you with an assortment of fun activities in the Costa Rican waters. You may see whales, dolphins, or a sea turtle. Our chef will cook any fish you are able to catch.
Playa Hermosa simply means beautiful beach in Spanish, and it is the most gorgeous one in the area. This is a broad, flat, white sand beach, with perfect waves and a point break. The beach is undeveloped and is picture-perfect with its leaning palms and beach almond trees. Despite its beauty, Playa Hermosa usually has few people enjoying it.
Costa Rica is one of the most magical and special places on earth. Costa Rica was recently rated to be the happiest country on earth by an independent survey. In addition, the surfing beaches you are going to, were rated among the top 10 in the world by Forbes Magazine!
Anamaya means healthy in Sanskrit, and the restaurant is dedicated to creating the tastiest healthy meals that their genius chefs, staff, and guests can dream up. They have a fixed menu offering different breakfasts, lunches, and dinners each day. They can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or those who eat fish and/or chicken, but they do not serve red meat or accommodate a full raw diet. Almost all of the food is local and organic, with more coming directly from Anamaya's own farm, Rancho Delicioso.
Anamaya has a spa, which offers much of what guests could find in a small resort of its size. Primarily, Anamayas body workers do several types of massage, which can sometimes be done in the room or deck, depending on the unit the guests are staying in. There are also various facial scrubs, exfoliation treatments, and many more available. It even offers acupuncture, which for many people can be tremendously relaxing.
It is easy to forget that Anamaya a high quality infrared sauna, because it is below the pool on the sun deck. The infrared light penetrates deep into your skin, warming you up, and helping you to sweat and detox. Despite the intense heat, it is a more pleasant experience than a traditional sauna. But be sure not to miss out on a treatment while you are here.
Renting a car and driving from San Jose can be a fun adventure if you are well prepared. We don't suggest it for most people. The drive from San Jose takes about 5 hrs including the ferry. We can help you arrange to have a rental car waiting for you at the Airport in Tambor or delivered right to Anamaya Resort for you. That way you can arrive more stress free and not have to worry about navigating the whole journey. If you do rent a car, we suggest a 4x4 since the roads here are rather adventurous.
These are the directions using the old highway which takes about 1.5 hrs longer. It's possible to take the new highway, but the directions are not available here yet.
From San Jose Airport, head west, away from San Jose city.
You can follow signs to Puntarenas, where the ferry is located. (see below) Take the ferry to Paquera.
After the ferry, follow all the traffic and the signs to Tambor (where the smalll airport is located) and then on to Cobano.
There is one main road, so it is very easy to follow.
Once in Cobano, turn left at the main intersection (at the bank) and continue on the main road to Montezuma (about 10 min).
Go through (or past) Montezuma, then just past Amor De Mar Hotel, turn right up the steep hill following signs to Delicios.
Anamaya resort is 200 meters past the Mariposario (or butterfly gardens. everyone will know where it is if you are lost).
We have a big Anamaya Resort sign out front. Turn in and follow the drive to the end and your home!
A beautiful way to experience Costa Rica is from the air. From San Jose it's only a 30-minute flight to Tambor, our local airport. This costs 75-105 USD (each way). There, we will arrange to have a taxi waiting for you.
Then to Anamaya it's about a 30 minute scenic ride, which costs 35 USD for a regular taxi (max 4 people) or 55 USD for a van (max 9 people). If you don't get a chance to arrange one with us, there is almost always one there waiting and they should know where Anamaya resort is located.
The 2 airlines that fly SJ-Tambor are Sansa and Nature Air.
Nature Air flies from the Pavas Airport (SYQ) in downtown San Jose, about 20 minutes from the international airport (SJO). It is a 20-minute taxi ride, or you can take the Nature Air shuttle for 8 USD.
For flying with Sansa, the ticket office and departure area is right next door to the international airport. You just go outside of the main airport to the street and turn left. Its about a 5-minute walk.
Direct bus service from San Jose to Montezuma (Ph# 2642-0219). This bus leaves every day from the parada de San Carlos (5 cuadros al norte de iglesia de la Mercedas) in downtown San Jose at 6:00am and 2:00pm. The cost is 12 USD.
The bus station is a 20 min., 20 USD taxi ride from the international airport. The bus trip takes about 5.5 hours total.
There is one rest stop between San Jose and Puntarenas. In Puntarenas you must get off the bus and the driver will hand you a ferry ticket and a laminated card that you need to get back on the bus.
Follow the bus crowd onto the ferry for a beautiful one and a half hour ferry ride.
Upon crossing the gulf you will disembark in Paquera.
Follow the passengers to the other side of the ferry terminal to re-board the bus and continue the journey to Cobano.
In Cobano all passengers going to Montezuma switch to another bus, which takes you the final 20-30 minutes to downtown Montezuma.
Please let us know your arrival time, we will have a taxi pick you up at the bus stop in Montezuma (5-6 USD).
When driving from San Jose to Montezuma or back, you will need to take the ferry (not necessary if you are coming from Tambor Airport). It takes about 1.5 hrs in total. It's about 800 Col/person plus about 1,300 Col/car.
The ferries have an air-conditioned passenger deck complete with snack shop and restrooms, as well as a large outside viewing area. Alcoholic beverages can be purchased.
We recommend getting to the ferry about 30 min before it is scheduled to leave to help make sure your vehicle gets a space on the boat.
Taking the bigger ferry, "Tambor Dos" (times listed in bold) also helps ensure there is space.
Here is the time schedule: (it changes regularly, so for the most up to date info, please call (506) 2661-2084, then press 4. It is in Spanish).
This is the more economic route to Anamaya Resort that we are happy to book for you. It is also a way to meet other retreat guests with whom you will be spending the week (or month, depending on the retreat ). To take advantage of this shuttle, we recommend booking your international flight to arrive no later than 1 p.m..
The company we use is called Montezuma Expeditions. This company is timely, professional, and we are thankful to have them as our friends. To sign up for this group shuttle, please send an email to the reservations manager with your "arrival" time at the San Jose international airport and, of course, a request to be signed up. She will then respond with a confirmation email detailing the exact cost and cancellation procedure. This service differs quite a bit depending on if we are in green season (June-Nov) or high season (Dec-May). For green season, there is a regular shuttle that departs at 8 a.m. Often guests are not able to arrive so early so the reservations manager coordinates a shuttle to pick up between 2 or 3 p.m. at the latest. This shuttle costs between 50 and 60 USD/each, depending on the amount of people signed up. The reservations manager will send a confirmation email for the time and cost the week prior to your arrival. For high season, the regular shuttle departs the international airport at 6 a.m. and at 2 p.m. This shuttle costs 45 USD. We put these charges on your bill.
It takes 1.5 hours from the airport to the ferry in Puntarenas. The shuttle driver will buy your tickets and help you board the ferry. You carry all your luggage on the boat with you. The ferry takes 1.5 hours. Enjoy a beautiful boat ride with views of the sunset over the mountains! You will board another shuttle on the other side in Paquera, which welcomes you to our lovely Nicoya Peninsula! From Paquera, the ride is another 1.5 hours to our door at Anamaya.
To return on the following Saturday to the airport, the shuttle will pick up from Anamaya Resort at 7 a.m. (high season) or 9 a.m. (green season) and arrive at the San Jose international airport between 12 and 12:30 p.m. or 2 and 2:30 p.m. respectively. Your departure flight must be no earlier than 3:30 p.m.
