All guests will be staying at Anahata Yoga Retreat. A range of lodging options are available from shared rooms to a private straw-bale round house with stunning views of Golden Bay. Tent sites and camping are also available. Retreat rates are priced separately and include shared lodging, meals and all programs.

Linen or bedding is available to hire for 30 NZD for your stay. Linen is provided in Chakra Guest House.

In this retreat, you will experience and learn about the practices of Nidra yoga and Restorative yoga with time for self-study and personal reflection or simply to enjoy a walk in the neighboring Abel Tasman National Park.

You will be learning yoga practices for your own health, breath and the link with relaxation theory, yoga lifestyle, SWAN practice, restorative Hatha yoga, breathing practices, understanding the techniques of Nidra and Restorative yoga from a practical and theoretical point of view, Mantra meditation, and an option for deep theory sessions including the science behind the techniques.

Cancellation policy for this retreat will be as below:

  • Cancellation within 30 days of arrival - a 25% fee of the total stay will be charged
  • Cancellation less than 30 days of arrival and more than 7 days of arrival a 50% fee of the total stay will be charged.

Choosing a path of simplicity and integrity, she underwent rigorous yogic and sannyasa training in India, in which the focus was cultivating strong minds that can respond positively and creatively to life. She is passionate about sharing her love of yoga and its integral tools from those looking to gain better health and well-being to those wanting to transform their lives.

This retreat will be held at Anahata Yoga Retreat, Takaka, New Zealand, which is situated in the midst of native beech forest with spectacular ocean views bordering the Abel Tasman National Park. It is a residential eco-yoga retreat using alternative power, composting toilets, eco-buildings, and nutritious organic vegetarian meals. It is a supportive, inspiring and dynamic environment that welcomes everyone regardless of age, background, and level of yoga experience.

The price of this retreat includes three daily vegetarian meals. All meals provided are simple, nutritious, and satisfying. Much of the organic food are sourced from local growers or picked fresh from the garden, which is developed along permaculture design principles.

Some special dietary requirements for food allergies can be catered to with prior advance notice; however, guests in this situation are advised to bring their own supply of certain foods, e.g. soy milk or gluten-free bread.

Your meals will include:

  • Breakfast: a light meal to break the fast from the previous night.
  • Lunch: the main meal of the day, when your digestive fires are the strongest.
  • Dinner: a light meal to ensure that all food is completely digested before going to sleep.

The water at Anahata is from a pure mountain spring and is absolutely safe to drink.

The kitchen is not to be used for personal cooking. If you have medically related food requirements or allergies, please inform reception on arrival.

Food is not allowed in the bedrooms. Please bring any special foods that you require (e.g. soy milk). They can be marked and kept in the kitchen.

Driving directions from Nelson

  • From Nelson, which is the main city in the north part of the South Island, travel west through the town of Motueka. Note that there are no petrol stations available between Motueka and Takaka, so best to fill up in Motueka. Stick to the speed limits to avoid traps.
  • After crossing the Takaka Hill from Nelson, you will drive towards and into Takaka.
  • Turn right immediately past the “Visitors Center” (don't go through Takaka).
  • Follow the road to the roundabout and turn right.
  • Drive towards Pohara Beach for about 10 minutes.
  • The road curves on a big right and then a big left. You will pass Motupipi School (on the left).
  • Take the next turn right at the Clifton crossroads. You will pass a big wooden giraffe type creature and then turn right at the ‘T’ Junction.
  • Follow this road to the next T-junction and turn left continuing on Clifton Road.
  • As you turn, you will see an orange "Anahata Retreat" sign. You will come to a gravel road and a sign saying “Bird Road”.
  • Follow the gravel road (Bird Road) up to the top of the mountain (seven kilometers).
  • Continue on past this drive. When you are half way up you will come to two gates side-by-side. Go through the left gate.
  • When you arrive at the top after approximately 30 minutes of driving, you will see a little sign on the other side of the top gate to the right that says “Abel Tasman - Wainui Hut”.
  • Go through this gate and follow the same gravel road heading a little left.
  • On your left, you will see a row of big Pine trees, a house, and some gardens. There is an “Anahata” sign on the fence to the right of the gate. Park outside and walk through the Anahata gate to the office.
  • If you are not comfortable driving up the mountain, cars can be left at the end of the sealed road before the start of the hill and the you can be picked up from there. You may also park your car in Takaka. Transfers are available upon request and will cost around 40 NZD.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at (Takaka Aerodoome Airport (KTF) or Nelson Airport (NSN).

Arrival by bus

Three bus companies offer services from Nelson and other South Island cities to Takaka. This includes Abel Tasman Bus, Golden Bay Coachlines, and Southern Link KBus. Schedules will vary from company to company.

You will need to be picked up in Takaka to get to Anahata. Transfers are available upon request and will cost around 40 NZD. The trip up the mountain from Takaka takes approximately 35 minutes.
