Forsyth Lodge is an eco-lodge in the buffer area of Satpura Tiger Reserve. Their naturalists' curate guided experiences and create memories that bring guests back for more. At Forsyth, they believe in the ideology of exploring the wilderness on foot and paying attention to every detail that surrounds it, which transforms that journey into a lifelong memory.

Nestled in the midst of 44 acres of the jungle at the end of the Satpura Tiger Reserve, Forsyth Lodge is your gateway into verdant surroundings coupled with the allure of natural living. Forsyth Lodge's focus lies in being able to deliver a wholesome and sustainable wildlife experience. Through a constant partnership with the park administration and the local community, we have crafted a bespoke wilderness experience that suits every need.

Forsyth Lodge offers 12 mud cottages, traditionally built by locals. The cottages form a semi-circle around a central swimming pool and four of them have an additional roof-top space - a machaan - that is open on all sides and overlooks the well-wooded surroundings and is a great place to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

It is also wonderful to sleep in or to spend time watching birds and the occasional animal passing by. The entire property is reclaimed forest which is a safe haven for animals, birds, butterflies, and dragonflies that you can explore with your naturalist in between safaris.

A mix of Indian and western cuisine is served in the communal dining hall and in different outdoor locations like under a Mahua tree or beside the swimming pool or the terrace under the stars. The dining area also has a small library, AV room, and adjoining terraces which are great for spending the evenings for stargazing along with fellow travelers.

Program

Core zone safari drive

Journey through the enthralling forest of Satpura accompanied by a Forsyth Lodge naturalist and a local guide. Cruise the vistas in a 4X4 jeep and feel your heartbeat with the rhythms of the jungle. Watch the captivating scenery unfold before your eyes and listen to the sounds of jungle reverberate within the depths of your being.

A walk in the park

The woods are lovely, dark and deep, and beckon you to walk through them, discovering a side of nature you miss driving through the forest in a jeep. Time stands still and your connection with the essence of life has never felt more tangible. Explore the vast diversity of flora and fauna and enrich your senses. Transverse trails taken by animals, observe the signs that they’ve left behind. Lock your gaze with a Sambar deer, listen intently to the whooping calls of langurs and soak in the fragrance of flowers in bloom. A walk in the woods is a walk to remember.

Sunset in the forest - a dusk drive

Embrace the stillness of the forest, let it be your guide, as the sun sets around you on this dusk drive in the buffer zone of Satpura Tiger Reserve. The silence can be deafening, but infinitely rewarding. Crickets begin to chirp, an owl hoots in the distance. The night casts its shadow as the forests nocturnal residents begin to stir. Civets scurry on tree trunks, leopards rasp in warning, while a rusty spotted cat, as still as the night, stalks its prey. A dusk drive in Satpura can open your eyes to so much.

Canoe charisma

The magic of being in a canoe is to paddle quietly along the shore, drifting into little inlets to watch birds and animals coming down to the water, unmindful of the boat - a wilderness experience to be savored. A meditation session on the cool banks of the Denwa will help bring you closer to the five elements.

Retreat location

Satpura Tiger Reserve has created a unique eco-tourism model (supported by the lodges within it) taking advantage of its varied landscape. The landscape, extending from the highest point in the Satpura range (the Pachmarhi plateau at 1350 meters above sea level) to the ravines and gorges in the lower areas of Madhai, offers visitors many ways to explore the jungle; non-motorized activities like boats on the Denwa river, walks in the core and buffer zones, and even cycling in the buffer areas.

The activities allow visitors to experience Satpura’s diverse jungle and landscape and experience its beauty in multiple ways that can satiate the curious and the thrill-seeker alike. Though named Satpura Tiger Reserve, it is here that you will find the highest density of leopard in India, more visible than the ever-elusive tiger owing to the rugged landscape all around. You will be able to see the leopard, sloth bear, giant squirrel, gaur, sambhar and more. That being said, during its season, tiger sightings are at an all-time high!
