Program

At Flying Tree, they offer a fun, dynamic, and creative course, with an emphasis on empowering you to plan and deliver your own classes to the public. They teach an alignment-based Hatha yoga that is suitable both for active flows and for more restorative or relaxing classes.

From week one, they place an emphasis on practical experience - that means trying out your teaching skills! You will be closely supported in small groups and carefully guided through your month's journey. The course is designed to give you a thorough introduction to the traditional basis of yoga - its philosophy and rich history - to examine where your yoga practice is taking you - and at the same time to prepare you to be a teacher in the modern world.

  • You begin most days with a half-hour meditation class, specializing in-breath, body-scan, and loving-kindness meditations.
  • This is followed by the morning asana practice and a short break for breakfast.
  • They have specialized workshops throughout the day, focusing on everything from philosophy and anatomy to class sequencing, posture clinics, and the chakras.
  • In the evening, there are optional asana practices in both English and Spanish (for those who would like to try a second language!)

Check out the full course syllabus below:

  • A review of the sun salutations including the cultural and historical context
  • Pranayama - breathing techniques to control your vital energy and prepare us for meditation
  • Meditation - a thorough introduction to mindfulness meditation techniques
  • A guided practice to thoroughly familiarize yourself with all of the above!
