15 Day Outdoor Adventure Yoga Retreat in Northern India

  • Rishikesh - Haridwar – Dharamsala – Norbulingka - Delhi

Elevating Yoga Retreat in India

Balancing a simultaneous inner and outer journey, our Northern India Retreat will explore the theme of presence as we move from the chaos and hidden mysticism of Delhi, to the shores of Mother Ganga in Rishikesh, to the higher Himalayas of the Dalai Llamas home in Dharamsala. We will learn to experience greater awareness with our daily practice of sadhana (spiritual practice) that includes yoga asana, pranayama, mantra, and silence. With support from each other and the powerful spiritual energies of the Himalayas, we will live our moving meditation exploring sacred sites, busy marketplaces, outdoor adventures, satsang with spiritual masters, and the simple craziness of life in India.

This retreat will give you tools to help you to integrate a more meditative awareness into your everyday life. Life with presence is the key to expand beyond fears and doubts, to embody your purpose, and to live from your empowered creative self, regardless of outside influences. You can relax deeply and safely into your journey as our India experienced guides and teachers organize all the daily travel details, take you to the cleanest, most delicious restaurants, unveil sacred powerful sites, bring you to their favorite teachers, and help you navigate in a sometimes chaotic country.

Our journeys always include happy healthy foods that make our bodies and minds feel great. We will be eating mostly vegetarian, with options to include fish, and sometimes also having an option to include some meat if you like. The meals will support the activities of the journey and will be a nutritious mix of local cuisine with some western favorites. Oftentimes we will eat family style where we share many dishes and get the opportunity to sample many things, and other times you may just choose from a set menu. There will always be plenty of food to sample and you will definitely like something being offered.

"Lotus of the Desert Retreat was for me, a trip of a lifetime. Our group was in very capable hands with Kristie Lonczak as our guide. I told her many times, ‘I could not have done India without you.’ As a developing country, India is not for the faint of heart. Kristie is a savvy, expert traveler. Like a Lotus growing firm the mud, she gracefully draws forth a profound, tangible, spiritual experience from the inherent chaos and cultural quirks of India. She handles the details, train schedules, and activities deftly. I felt safe in India—on a desert safari, negotiating streets at night and on remote hikes with Kristie leading us. Kristie’s contacts are all lovely people I trusted and was happy to give my business to. It’s obvious she draws to her like minded and spirited people because she is genuine, generous and kindhearted. Our group was a special blend of gifted, soulful women who were a joy to share this big journey with."

"Kristie is intuitive, with a keen sense for balance of activity and relaxation. Her knowledge of outlying areas, of knowing the right people for a particular experience, of special temples off the tourist path are all invaluable. She knows and loves good food, clean, comfortable and beautiful places to stay—with safety, cleanliness and quality a priority."

"This trip exceeded my expectations on many levels. We all hope to find something we believe only India can give us and this particular retreat delivers every opportunity to experience what the soul longs for. Truth and understanding, inspiration and beauty, adventure and fun and laughter are the threads that weave the beautiful memories this trip creates. "

"A focus on the feminine was a powerful aspect of the trip that has changed my life forever. The goddess temples visited combined with Kristie’s guided meditations and her knowledge of Hindu mythology brought insights that have empowered me creatively."

"Kristie is an excellent yoga instructor who brings a varied practice knowledge base to her class. This keeps the sessions interesting and in the spirit of travel and adventure, fresh and new. She secured great locations for yoga—hotel rooftops with beautiful views and quiet, private gardens. She easily managed a wide range of abilities and experience positively."

"On a personal note, I have met a friend for life in Kristie. She is a powerful example for living authentically and I hope to have the opportunity to travel with her again."

"Traveling through India with Kristie and Chris was a beautiful and unforgettable journey. Our trip from Delhi, to Rishikesh, to Dharamsala and back was exciting, adventurous and challenging. Kristie and Chris were fabulous guides, they knew all the most delicious restaurants, the best shops, the most interesting events to attend, and the best places to stay. Because of their familiarity with the magic and unpredictability of India, they dealt with any hiccups that came along with positivity and confidence. I felt safe traveling with them, which was important to me as a single female traveler. Kristie and Chris are wonderful and make a fabulous team. Kristie is really unique. I've never met anyone who has the same bright, energizing, positive and inspiring presence. She's one of those people who draws out the best qualities in everyone she meets. Plus, she has just the right combination of practicality and magical sparkle that makes her the perfect trip leader. She's also a fabulous yoga teacher! I could go on and on. You should just meet them for yourself."
