During this retreat, you will be staying in Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House. The team of Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House believes in living a healthy life in harmony with nature and the rhythm of the sea, and you will see this reflected in your rooms, the gardens, meals, and the service to you. The bed and breakfast is run by Ameriga, the main yoga teacher, and Ettore, who runs the kitesurfing school, with the help of a team of friends that have been enjoying working together for several years.

Many guests have become friends and keep on coming back every season, which creates a a beautiful familiar atmosphere. Do not worry if you are traveling by yourself because at Floripa is very easy to make friends with other guests and also with the staff and the dogs.

The bed and breakfast is located 30 meters away from the sandy dune beach of Santa Maria del Focallo. The stunning beach is 13 kilometers long and was awarded the Blue Flag for the cleanliness of its waters. It is the ideal place to relax and have a deep contact with the sea and the elements.

Accommodation can be in private room, shared room for two to five persons, or suite room with private veranda. The bed and breakfast is composed of three houses surrounded by a lush garden. All the rooms have been designed for your comfort and relaxation with modern simplicity and color. With hot and cold air conditioning, television, refrigerator, private bathroom, and Wi-Fi, you will have all the benefits of a hotel with the warmth and freedom that only a bed and breakfast can give you.

Our shared room can host up to 5 persons, with one ensuite bathroom. Generally most of the guests that book it are female travellers, but occasionally some guy has booked it too. While at times it can be very quiet, sometimes all the beds are booked. There is an extra bathroom on the groundfloor that the guests can use, and hot outside showers. It’s a great alternative if you are travelling on a tight budget and would love to be in the good company of other people that share the same passion for yoga and surf lifestyle! If you know you have a snoring problem, or are a light sleeper, then we would recommend a single room.

A team of experienced yoga instructors will guide you to take your asana practice to the next level with 90 minutes of Vinyasa flow classes in the morning, optional workshops in the afternoon (on arm-balancing, inversions, handstand, backbends, basic of alignment) followed by lunar flows that are sometimes taught at the forest near the center, or at the beach (this depends on the weather). Depending on the size of the classes, on occasion 2 morning classes are offered at the same time, so you can choose between: a longer (sometimes over 2 hrs) level 2 Vinyasa flow; and a shorter (90 minutes) entry level Hatha flow class.

In your free time, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors and the stunning blue flag beach only a few steps away from the bed and breakfast which is mostly empty with the exception of August, when Italians have their summer holidays.

For those who love sightseeing, eight UNESCO World Heritage centers are located at easy reach from the bed and breakfast and can be visited easily by car. Enjoy the company of the other guests while you share delicious organic meals made fresh from the garden.

FAQs

  • Are children welcome?

At Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House, we try to create a climate where our guests can feel part of a group that share common interests and passions. If you are a like-minded family then you will feel really welcomed!

  • What’s the average age of the guests at Floripa?

The average age of Floripa Yoga & Kitesurf House's guests depends on the time of the year, but in general it ranges around 30-45 years old, though we often have younger and older people coming over. We are impressed by how easy it is for our guests to find common grounds for conversations and spending the time together, everybody is very easygoing.

  • I am a solo traveler, will it be easy to meet people?

Yes! It will be extremely easy! Most of our guests come around on their own, and even our staff members (and dogs) are super friendly, so you will not feel lonely!

  • Are the water-sports compulsory?

Not at all! Some of our guests just enjoy the yoga classes and relaxing at the beach, or vising some of the stunning UNESCO sights nearby.

  • What about kitesurf? Is it a sport for everyone?

Kitesurf is a water sport that uses the strength of wind. Our spot is quite easy, a long and free beach with flat water; in addition, the wind is normally side on shore, so perfect to learn! Everybody can try it, as you don’t need previous specific preparation. If you just want to give it a try, we recommend to do two hours and see how it goes (price is 50 EUR euros per hour). If you are committed to learn it, you can attend a beginner course (from 6 to 9 hours) at our school, or just rent the equipment if you are already able to ride the wind!

  • Do I need to bring my yoga mat?

No, you can leave your mats at home! In our shalas we provide all you need to attend the yoga class! Blocks, yoga mats, pillows and so on.

  • I’m a beginner at yoga/ I am advanced/ I am pregnant, will I be able to enjoy the classes?

In the morning we generally teach a dynamic style of flow yoga- it can be Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Prana flow; all levels are welcomed since the teachers give variations according to everybody's capacities. On occasion when there are lots of yogis in the house, we offer two different classes at the same time- one for beginners and one for intermediate yogis. In the afternoon session we usually teach yin-yoga or a gentle flow, these classes are slower and deep, and are usually followed by a meditation session. Sometimes we do the afternoon classes at the beach or in the little forest close to the B&B. If you are pregnant, or you have a special condition, you will be able for sure to follow the afternoon classes, while you might need to slow down and pause during the morning classes.

  • Do I need to bring cash?

Yes. All water sports, massages and transfers need to be paid by cash. Also we recommend to bring some cash for expenses outside of the B&B, as in Sicily most places only accept cash.

  • Ameriga Giannone

Yoga Alliance E-RYT 200, RYT 500 (Vinyasa Yoga)

Ameriga's classes are a blend of Ashtanga elements into a Vinyasa flow style practice, with emphasis on playfulness, breathe work, and compassionate adjustments. She will offer several variations for most poses, which is why the classes are suited for both beginner and more advanced levels. When she is not teaching, she travels the world to study yoga and follows her teachers, Shiva Rea, Lino Miele, Simon Borg-Olivier.

  • Sofia Soori

Sofia started practicing yoga at a young age and has explored Bikram, Yin, and Hatha before falling in love with the flow of Vinyasa and Ashtanga yoga. After graduating from school, she went to India to deepen her knowledge of Ashtanga yoga and to become a yoga teacher. She has been teaching ever since. She recently continued her yoga studies with Sharath Jois at the Shri K Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute. In Sofia’s teaching, you will find a lot of playfulness and also a focus on alignment, strength, and technique in each position.

  • Stacie Bronson

Stacie Bronson is a vegan yoga teacher, self-published author, tarot reader, and Reiki healer. She uses these transformational tools to help people make better choices that will positively impact their life decisions and inspire them to find their true purpose. Ragusa is one of the most picturesque towns in Sicily. The view from the upper town over Ragusa Ibla on its own separate hilltop is quite breathtaking. It is one of the UNESCO-listed baroque towns of south-eastern Sicily. Ragusa is in the Monti Iblei, a large area of high ground, divided up by dry stone walls, and incised with ravines.

The town was originally built on a small steep-sided hill with deep valleys on three sides separating it from the high plateau. After the earthquake of 1693, which destroyed many of south-eastern Sicily's buildings, it was decided to rebuild Ragusa on higher, more level ground nearby. This new planned town was built, with straight streets and a rational layout, but local aristocrats did not want to move, and instead built themselves new palazzi on the ruins of the old town.

Nowadays Ragusa has two parts: Ibla (or Ragusa Ibla), the older nucleus on its hilltop, and Ragusa Superiore, the more modern upper town which spreads from the post-earthquake streets into more recent developments. Like all Sicilian towns, Ragusa has its share of ugly modern sprawl, but this is well away from the historic center, which is remarkably unspoiled.

During your stay, you will be served two daily delicious organic meals (breakfast and dinners) and can order lunch in case you feel hungry as an extra.

In the morning, you can enjoy a healthy and plentiful breakfast buffet which includes fresh fruit, two cakes with one of them vegan, cereals, eggs, home-made jam, Italian coffee and cappuccino, oatmeal, different types of milk, tea, fruit juices, cereals, bread, occasionally croissants and pancakes, yogurt, biscuits, and cookies.

Vegetarian or vegan dinners are eaten every evening together with the other guests and the Floripa team. Dinners are always vegetarian or vegan, generally presented as a healthy buffet of locally produced organic food, accompanied with water and wine. Gluten-free alternatives can be arranged if requested.

If there are meals that are not included in your package, then you can “pay as you go” (price ranges from 6 to 18 EUR). There are also some restaurants around 1 km away, which can be reached by bike (we provide free bicycles). Finally, there are two common kitchens that can be used to cook your own meals. The closest supermarket is located 3 km away (5 minutes by bike), and bigger supermarkets are located in Pozzallo (7 km away).

Our meals are mostly vegetarian, however at breakfast you will find ham and eggs. We don’t serve fish, and we serve meat usually once a week on Saturday during a barbecue. However, there are always vegetarian options also on barbecue nights.

Our breakfasts and dinners are buffet style, so you will find dishes that you can eat most of the time. When you sign up for meals just write a remark with your eating style / special dietary requirements and the cook will make sure to have something for you.
