Double, triple, or quadruple bedded en-suite rooms are offered at the retreat. Single rooms are available for an additional supplement.

The villas are surrounded by palm trees and landscaped gardens. They share the large swimming pool, which is adjacent to the Hilltop villa, but available for all guests. Spice Garden has fragrant and colorful trees, palms, spices, and herbs, which thrive in this fantastic climate. Mango is set on top a ridge facing east/west offering wonderful views of both sunrise and sunset, the countryside and mountains surrounding Jim's Farm.

All the stylishly decorated bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with solar hot water, individually controlled air-conditioned and fan, and free Wi-Fi. Thirteen double and family bedrooms are located on upper floors, with your own private balcony, and there is a single bedroom at ground floor level for single guests or those with limited mobility. You will enjoy the tranquillity of the 50-acre organic farm.

Specially designed to showcase the best of Sri Lankan craftsmanship, all the rooms have cool kumbuk wood flooring, vaulted wooden ceilings, and lime plaster walls. Jim’s Farm Villas are very proud to have used local craftsmen to create our traditional teak and rattan furniture.

Hilltop villa

This villa is ideally suited for exclusive use by a large family group. Large airy open-plan living and dining space with widescreen television, games, and library. Poolside veranda plus cabana for outside dining or barbeques.

Spice Garden villa

There are two extra-large luxury bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms with bath and semi-outdoor shower, plus private balcony. There are also another two large double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms with semi-outdoor shower and balcony. All the villas have spacious first-floor terrace for dining outside, plus indoor communal lounge.

They have ground floor library and lounge with flat-screen interactive television, DVDs available for use with flat-screen televisions in your room, open-plan reception area on ground floor adjacent to kitchen, where breakfast is served.

Mango villa

It has five bedrooms. Three extra-large double rooms which can accommodate up to three extra beds, large bathroom with bath and shower, private back balcony with fabulous views and plunge pool, shared front balcony, and two large double rooms which can accommodate two extra beds, large bathroom with bath and shower.

There is also a private back balcony with fabulous views and plunge pool, shared front balcony, stylishly-furnished interior lounge plus games area featuring a flatscreen television and pool table, extensive verandah with terracotta flooring, and grass area for sunbathing overlooking the mango orchard.

There will be a range of activities on offer with different ability levels so everyone can join in. Whether you want to improve your strength, flexibility and general fitness or work on your relaxation and meditation skills, there will be choices for everyone. Our aim is to support you in improving your overall health, fitness and general well being so you can live a more fulfilled life. Reducing stress levels leaving you feeling calm and relaxed but also energized & motivated.

  • Mandy Rawsthorne

    Mandy is a very experienced instructor who has been teaching and lecturing in the health, fitness, and well being industry since 1995. She is the author of a Relaxation CD and is currently writing a book. She has a wealth of experience teaching in a vast range of environments from hospitals, schools, private health clubs, leisure centers and overseas venues.

  • Rachael Ann Rawsthorne

    She is a level two gym instructor, level three diploma in personal training, level three diploma in exercise referral, exercise to music, Kettle Bells instructor, power wave instructor, aqua aerobics instructor, supple strength instructor, Nordic walking instructor, and positive EFT facilitator (positive mindset). She has been teaching classes since the age of 17 and personal training since the age of 19. At the age of 18, she set up her own fitness company "Fit2Relax Limited" where she offers fitness events for women only.

You will be staying at Jim's Farm Villas, a luxury boutique hotel in Sri Lanka's cultural triangle between Dambulla and Kandy, set in a serene 50-acre organic farm with mountain views. You can choose to stay in the hilltop, spice garden or new Mango villas, offering you the very best of Sri Lankan luxury living, plus fantastic in-house dining, using seasonal, locally sourced produce.

Centrally located, midway between Dambulla and Kandy, within the cultural triangle, you can either relax on the farm, at the poolside or in the spa or enjoy memorable day trips to nature parks, ancient temples or fabulous heritage sites, like Sigiriya. Set amongst wooded hills and next to paddy-fields, the farm is a haven for birds, 102 species have been spotted so far.

Daily breakfast and evening meals plus tea, coffee, and water is included in the price. Enjoy your choice of breakfast from 06:30 to 9:30 at private tables on the terrace at Spice Garden villa, fragrant with the scent of spices and flowers from the gardens. Breakfast will include locally grown tea or coffee; seasonal, freshly prepared juices or smoothies; fresh fruit plate; or your choice of bread and home-made jams or marmalade.

You can go Sri Lankan and enjoy your egg hoppers, or go Western with omelette or eggs cooked to order, made from the farm’s free range eggs, with a choice of bacon, sausage, tomato, and mushrooms.

As the sun sets over the mountains and the cool breezes fan across Jim’s Farm, you will enjoy your pre-dinner drinks with a range of nibbles, as the chefs create your evening meal from their range of international and local dishes based on farm fresh produce.

Anuradhapura plus Aukuna

Anuradhapura is the jewel in the crown, the largest of the ancient cities, which remains a major centre for Sri Lankan Buddhism. See the Buddha’s bodhi tree, brought here 2,500 years ago from India, one of the oldest living things on earth. En route visit the Aukuna, the largest standing Buddha carved from a single piece of rock.

Bird watching

Sri Lanka is a paradise for birdwatchers (twitchers) with many indigenous species, including the famous hanging parokeet. Many of these birds visit the farm at different seasons - 102 species have been spotted so far - including peacocks! can supply reference books and binoculars to get you started.

Elephant orphanage

Visit the world-famous, unique Elephant Orphanage at Pinnewela. Feed the baby elephants; watch the whole herd parade through the village for their daily bath. Great to combine with an afternoon visit to the Botanical Gardens in Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth tour - One and a half hour's drive west from Jim's Farm

Further afield

If you would like to venture off the farm, Jim’s Farm can arrange a tuk-tuk (bajaj or trishaw in Sri Lanka) tour of the local village to experience the hustle and bustle of Sri Lankan village life, the beating heart of the country. Or you might like to hire one our bikes and really get in touch with your locale. There are three Buddhist temples nearby, where a local priest will be delighted to provide an overview of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, plus his traditional blessing.

You might like to learn more about the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda at one of the leading spice gardens with links to Jim’s Farm. JIm's Farm Villas is ideally situated in the heart of the Cultural Triangle within easy reach of Sri Lanka's leading UNESCO World Heritage sites which are a must-see for most visitors.

Local family activities

Sri Lankan Cookery Lesson with the chef. Find out how to select the best ingredients for a traditional Rice and Curry from the Farm's vegetable and herb garden and the local village stores; prepare your curry sauces, fruit and vegetables and then cook them to perfection. Then share your own Sri Lankan Rice and Curry lunch with your party.

Local sites visits

Paldeniya Raja Temple, claims to be the original Buddhist Temple where the first Buddhist scripts were written - hence the first ever Sinhala texts - before the scripts were transferred to the Aluvihare Temple in Matale for safer storage. The site is also the ancient home of the Prince of Ehelepola, who fought against the Kandyan King's capitulation to British colonialists. You can see the prince's house, the beautiful Temple and the old prison.

Matale and Kandy

Visit some of Sri Lanka’s most amazing Buddhist and Hindu temples in Matale, including the historically important Aluvihare Rock Temple; it was here that Buddhist texts were first written down in Sri Lanka, so paving the way for the Sinhalese alphabet. Then on to the botanical gardens in Kandy with its broad avenues and rare plants. Plus seats at the unique early evening Kandyan Dance display, and finally a visit to the stunning world-famous Temple of the Tooth at sundown.

Polonnaruwa and Minneriya National Park

Enjoy a cycle ride around the extensive and peaceful ruins of thirteenth century Polonnaruwa, one of the major ancient capital cities in the heart of Sri Lanka. En route, visit a local wood craft shop and return via Minneriya National Park or Habarana Eco Park to see Sri Lanka’s largest herd of wild elephants grazing in the late afternoon sun by the huge tank.

Sigiriya and Dambulla

Considered by many in Sri Lanka to be the “eighth wonder of the world”, Sigiriya is a twelfth-century summer palace built atop the famous Lion Rock by one of Sri Lanka’s powerful kings. The Rock Temples at Dambulla, unchanged for 2,000 years, are a major site of Buddhist pilgrimage, crowned by the largest Buddha on the island. The National Art Museum provides a fascinating insight into the development of Sri Lankan art and design.

A visit to the bustling, multicoloured Dambulla vegetable market late in the afternoon is not to be missed.

Tea district

Nearby Matale is home to some of the best tea estates in Sri Lanka. Jim’s Farm can arrange visits to see the daily tea picking and weighing in, followed by lunch at a traditional estate bungalow, then on to a nearby tea factory to see the tea processing and enjoy a tea tasting session. Combine with a spice garden tour on your return.

Other activities

Go shopping in the local town of Pallepola, visit the Buddhist College in the heart of the town, enjoy cycling, table tennis, volleyball and badminton available, golf at The Victoria Golf Club, walk in the Knuckles Range, swim in the beautiful hilltop pool any time of day, elephant and horse riding, visit the local Spice Garden, haggle with the Matale spice traders.

Visit to colourful, bustling Dambulla fruit and vegetable market, visit the eco-park or Minneriya National Park for elephants and wildlife and Popham's Arboretum in Dambulla to see examples of indigenous trees and plants, a variety of fitness and relaxation style clases, guided walks, bike rides, tuk-tuk rides of the farm, village, town, and local temples; milk the cows; relax and swim at Hilltop pool.

  • From the A9, heading north from Kandy, take the small left turn in Madawala Ulpotha, opposite the DSI Footwear shop.
  • Follow road uphill for three kilometers.
  • Then follow the local Jim's Farm Villas orange signs.

Driving directions from Dambulla

  • From the A9, heading south from Dambulla, take the right turn at Koholanwela.
  • Just after the Military base on your right, and follow road for 3 kilometers to Ehelepola junction.
  • Then follow the local Jim's Farm Villas signs.

Driving directions from Kurunegela

  • From Kurunegela to the west, follow the Dambulla road to Galewela.
  • Turn right for Pallepola.
  • At Pallepola junction, take the smallest easterly road for 0.5 kilometers to Ehelepola Junction.
  • Then follow the local Jim's Farm Villas signs.
