Melissa Whitty

Melissa is the owner of Fireflyoga retreats, and she has completed the Bikram hot yoga training in fall 2013. Since then, she has been teaching in the US, Mexico, and the UK. She fell in love with the Bikram series on her first class in Olga Allon's studios in London after trying other yoga schools. Even after the first class, the Bikram series in the heated room gave her enourmous focus, level of positivity, and wellbeing never achieved through her running / fitness. Melissa was also an aerobics teacher in Scotland and Ireland, but she knew the high after this class was not like any other, and she knew that yoga would always be in her life. She went on to complete the training, so she can share this yoga with others.

Recently a new mommy, she practiced almost daily throughout her second and some of the third trimester of pregnancy. The 26 and 2 series was such a gift in pregnancy.

She can be found blogging about wellbeing or posting on her Instagram page in between teaching in Brighton, UK, being a mom, and studying nutrition and anatomy in between feeds and organizing retreats. She is excited to begin her journey as a nutritionist next year, when she begins her studies in naturopathic nutrition in Brighton, UK.

Next year, she is excited to host a yoga and dance for kids teacher training. Once trained, she will teach yoga to kids between the ages of 3-12, the age to begin a yoga practice and mindfulness habit.

Melissa is very interested in the connection between yoga and the energy body and has completed Reiki 1 and 2. She has an outgoing, energetic, lighthearted personality, and is excited about organizing Bikram holidays with a variety of teachers around the world.

Nancy Henriksen

Nancy Henriksen, dubbed the Tony Robbins of Bikram yoga, began practicing Bikram yoga in 2001 after being injured in a severe car crash while working undercover as a police officer. The accident left two of her discs in her spine bulging and pinching nerves, causing severe pain. The pain became so unbearable that she started taking pain medication and muscle relaxers, as well as antidepressants, to deal with the loss of her job.

She discovered that with a regular practice of Bikram yoga, she could live pain-free without the use of pharmaceuticals and her world began to transform. In 2002, she became a certified Bikram yoga instructor and found a new way to help people. Whereas working most of her adult life as a police officer and hostage negotiator, she currently teaches yoga and is a comedic transformational speaker. Her adventurous spirit had led her to the dark side of law enforcement and undercover work, but wanting to hone those skills she discovered theatre arts as a natural fit. Comedy and acting affected her approach to teaching yoga, and yoga freed her thinking leading to new age philosophies and transformation.

She coaches people, that thinking and feeling creates your reality, and she finds ways to encourage people with the mind body connection of yoga. For example, if you control your breath, you control your body. If you control your body, you control your mind and thoughts that affect your life experience.

With 12 years experience in the Bikram yoga world, Nancy has completed a number of advanced workshops with Bikram himself, Emmy Cleaves, and other leading teachers in the Bikram world like Craig Villiani, Esak Garcia, and Mary Jarvis. Nancy is an American native, currently teaching and travelling in Australia. Spending some time with Nancy on a yoga holiday is an experience not to be missed and will truly transform your yoga practice, as she is known for detailed hands on adjustments in each posture, using her extensive yoga knowledge. She has completed a yoga teacher training course in India recently also in Mahi Power Yoga, with similar lineage as Bikram.

As Nancy is primarily based in Australia and plans to travel every 3 months, she will co-host Fireflyoga's long haul retreats.

This retreat will take place in the island of Nusa Lembongan, Bali.

"I had such a great experience on every level. The food, accommodation and ambiance was terrific and perfect. But most of all I enjoyed the great yoga teachers! The standard of the yoga teachers - Naomi Clark and Melissa Whitty was very high. I will definitely be recommending you to my friends and I look forward to returning." website, edited

"I had never been on a yoga trip before and so I didn't really know what to expect. Everything was so well organised and met a wonderful group of same minded yogis. The weather was fabulous and the villa was in the midst of scenic mountains-just what a burnt out person needed! The food and twice daily yoga classes, posture clinics and treatments were the best parts of the break for me. That coupled with great people and nature based acommodation really zenned me completely. I would thoroughly recommend the firefly andalucian break to anyone looking to switch off, relax and deepen their yoga practice." website, edited
