Program

Tools required

You will need 1 yoga mat, 2 blocks, 1 blanket, and a bolster or pillow. These can be improvised with bath towels, large books, or pots for blocks and regular blankets. You must also prepare notebooks / pens and a good internet connection for Zoom.

Pre-application requirements

This is suitable for those who want to deepen their practice of yoga and learn the new skill of teaching in the tradition of Hatha Vinyasa flow. This course is good for beginners and advanced yoga practitioners. It is recommended that you have at least 3 to 6 months minimum of practice.

Certifications

Students who complete their training before 30 September 2020 are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).

How the training works

There are 20 days in this live immersion program with 6 hours per day with a one-hour break each day. Do note that 2 Zoom meetings can be missed for live participants and made up via the recorded sessions.

All recordings are available for you to reference after the program ends. Self-study, practice, and reading must be done during this immersion time.

All assignments must be submitted by the September 19 for completion of the course. There will be a written exam and 45-minute class practicum teaching to graduate.

Self-paced program

Self-paced program is available starting September 8 and can be completed by December 31, 2020. You can complete the entire course offline by watching video modules, completing reading and writing assignments, and submitting teaching practice recordings, which will be reviewed and given feedback on.

Graduation procedure and grading criteria

  • Teaching practicum: Students are required to teach a 45-minute sequence and take a written exam
  • There will be weekly quizzes per topic to keep students on point and ‘pop’ quizzes throughout the week

  • Bhagavad Gita - Steven Mitchell, Winthrop Sargeant, and Eknath Easwaran (audiobook) are good versions
  • Light on Yoga - B.K.S. Iyengar
  • Yoga Body Mind and Spirit - Donna Farhi

Timing of sessions - PST (UTC -8)

The live sessions run from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. on Mondays to Saturdays. Please note that due to the US Labor Day Holiday, there will be no live sessions on:

  • Friday, September 4
  • Monday, September 7
