Join this weekend full of fun, yoga, camping, and climbing with adventurous women in the beautiful desert landscape of Joshua Tree National Park! Learn from FIFTHclass Climbing School & Guide Service's full staff of AMGA-certified, female guides who are experts at finding the right climbs for you! They offer guided climbing and yoga instruction for climbers and yogis of all skill levels, from first-time beginners to advanced. Then, after a full day out, enjoy a luxury camping experience with a sauna, cold soak, hot shower and sitting around a fire chatting with new friends. Don’t forget to look out for the shooting stars!
You will be pleased to be staying at The Crash Pad in Joshua Tree. They offer a host of amenities and the option to upgrade to a cabin should you choose not to camp. The group will be in a few adjacent campsites with plenty of room for you to pitch a tent or car camp. There are several picnic tables, gas fire pits and chairs, a sauna, cold plunge tub, hot showers and a BBQ there. There is cell service at the campground and well water. Please bring your own water if you prefer not to drink well water.
Friday From 4 p.m. onward, meet at campsite, there is no specific time, as many of you will be driving to Joshua Tree this night. You can also arrive on Saturday morning, just get in touch to work out the details. Register and sign paperwork - This is a good time to get fitted for climbing shoes, helmets, harnesses, and belay devices, should you need any of these items. Set up your tent and sleeping area. You will have a fire going once it gets dark and you will use this time to get to know one another.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be morning yoga followed by breakfast and lunches to bring with for your climbing day. Split into groups and go out to the crags. You will climb most the day and have informational and skill seminars. Head back to the campground for dinner, sauna/showers, relaxing, and fire.
On Monday morning, there will be yoga and final debrief. Break down tents, breakfast, etc.
This trip will run regardless of the weather conditions. The trips have been chosen based on the area's best potential for good weather. If climbing isn't possible on a given day, the group will find a sheltered area to practice skills or go for a group hike.
The majority of women come to this retreat alone - somewhere around 70%. If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, know that you will not be "alone" and these retreats offer a wonderful sense of community.
This retreat generally has a wide range of ages. The average age tends to fall between the ages of 25 to 55. But, there were many participants from the 18-late 60's joined and had a blast.
Being a climbing school, teaching someone how to climb safely and confidently is what FIFTHclass Climbing School & Guide Service does best!
FIFTHclass Climbing School & Guide Service does their best to choose dates where this won't be an issue, but it's always a possibility. Even more so with the changing climate. If poor weather occurs we will propose alternative activities such as technical skills lessons like anchor building, rappelling, multi-pitch clinics, or hiking. If your worried about the weather ruining your experience, buying "cancel for any reason" trip protection is suggested as there will be no refunds due to weather-related issues.
FIFTHclass Climbing School & Guide Service bases their decision on this with fluidity. Their guides will determine whether or not they will allow leading based on participants' prior experience, routes available for leading, and mock leading competency. If this is a skill you want to learn on the retreat, communicate with your guides and they will try to get you some chances to learn the art of leading during the retreat.
It's a National Park for a reason! Beautiful desert landscape with... you guessed it... Joshua Trees and amazing rock formations are everywhere. The rock here is very sticky and provides great climbs for both beginner and advanced climbers, as well as some really fun shorter multi-pitches. The town of "JTREE" is super funky with lots of little shops, some good coffee and food options, and a couple of outdoor stores.
All meals are at your own expense. Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms have a few small markets. You can get all the basics, but very few specialty items. Yucca has many large stores and restaurants available. You can grab food in town and bring it to the campground if you do not want to cook.
There is an optional extra day of multipitch climbing or guided hiking. Get in touch for more details.
