Nada yoga

Nada is a Sanskrit word that means sound. Though the practice of Nada yoga is not one specific practice, it covers a wide range of practical exercises. Some practices include vocal play, singing, sounding the Indian scales, and mantras. Part of Nada yoga is learning to fine-tune your ability to listen to audible and inaudible sounds, which is an aspect of subtle vibration.

Benefits to Nada yoga

The practice of Nada yoga assists you to become more aware through the aspect of listening, initially externally, and eventually internally. When you cultivate a deeper awareness to conscious listening, the inner chatter slowly starts to dissolve, which promotes inner peace. It is in a peaceful mind where joy and contentment naturally arise.

Sound is intimately connected with the breath, as both aspects are used to bring you into the present moment. This includes:

  • Transforms stuck emotions
  • Releases endorphins (the brain’s “feel good” chemicals)
  • Sounding the musical scale helps to move inner pranic energy that increases your energy
  • Builds your confidence to express and communicate more freely
  • Creates new neurological networks in the brain and expands your consciousness.
  • Improves communication
  • Strengthens your teaching voice
  • Allows for deeper meditations
  • Lisa (Sequoia) Henning

Sequoia’s yogic journey began with the very disciplined practice of the Iyenger tradition. After years of practicing the Iyengar lineage, she cultivated her own personal practice and discipline, which organically transformed her asana practice into a mixture of the Ashtanga and Hatha schools. Now, she teaches the traditional practice of Hatha yoga incorporating space for inner awareness and witnessing, which allows one to deepen inner connection beyond the physical body.

  • Shir Shemesh

Shir has studied many different forms of yoga ranging from Vijnana to Sivananda to most recently studying under his guru, Sri Dharma Mittra. Beyond yoga, Shir has studied other healing modalities like Ayurveda and Thai yoga Massage. He has been teaching for over six years with over 500 hours of training certifications. Shir describes his first yoga class as an experience and sensation of great relief, like coming back home. He encourages his students to do the same in their practice, exploring and deepening their own inner bases.

  • Pablo Candileri

Pablo is a certified Hatha Vinyasa yoga instructor with the intention to expand his spiritual quests. He met and practiced different styles and different systems of yoga, including the rigor of Ashtanga, integrity of Anusara, the precision of Iyengar, the nobility of inbound, the fluidity of Vinyasa, the softness and certainty of Hatha, all while maintaining his Bhakti devotion practice. Through this, he saw that diversity is necessary and learned from each style the freedom to integrate multiple visions without limiting himself to just one teacher or one line of practice.

This retreat will take place at Aurovalley Ashram, a peaceful and pristine international center for inner ecology with spiritual needs. The ashram is immersed in nature surrounded by birds, animals, and greenery in its quiet rural setting located between the sacred cities of Hardwar and Rishikesh in Northern India. • Review by Chris and Anne from USA

"After reviewing scores of RYT programs offered in some of the coolest locations on the planet, Anne and I decided on the Feeling Soul Good program in Bali in April. People attend these programs for so many different reasons - some because they know they want to teach yoga, others to deepen their own yoga practice and still others are looking to find a unique life experience or perhaps even looking to find themselves. We had just started our own business integrating performance and wellness for others and wanted to incorporate our passion for yoga into our services. As martial arts instructors and considering Anne’s background in personal training and mine in SCUBA instruction, we were counting on a school that would provide excellent learning that we could bring back to others, personally and professionally. As small business owners, we were counting on value for the cost and time commitment. As yoga practitioners, we were counting on greatly increasing our knowledge and competence in all aspects of yoga. We are so pleased to say that Feeling Soul Good delivered on these expectations - and more. "

"The month-long program with Feeling Soul Good provided an amazingly comprehensive experience for both of us that was well beyond what we had hoped! Sequoia Henning and team covered the necessary fundamentals very well, of course, and managed to do so including a focus on the importance of “sound” in a yoga practice. In this program, we were able to explore not just yoga but ourselves in ways we never imagined. We learned far beyond what we had hoped - and the way they taught has inspired how we aspire to teach going forward. We recommend Feeling Soul Good to any yoga practitioner regardless of their intent to teach or simply deepen their practice. As teacher preparation, we found the Feeling Soul Good RYT program as effective as what we experienced in certification programs of personal training, SCUBA and martial arts teacher training." website, edited

  • Review by Neil Anderson from Canada

"I first met Sequoia in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, in 2005. She is an encouraging workshop facilitator, a talented masseuse, sound healer, and an inspirational, wise woman. I am thankful for her teachings in my first official lessons on the subtle body of the Chakras. Her presentation of the profound materials and interactive teaching methods allowed me to become more aware of the connections within and around myself. Sequoia’s understanding of vibrational sound and healing touch has allowed me to walk away from her treatments feeling happy to be me. She is a positively unique human being and I am thankful to have been impacted by her."

  • Review by Amy Fitzell from Australia

"I am forever grateful to have met Sequoia. She has such incredible knowledge, teachings, and energy. Sequoia was one of my teachers on a one month yoga teacher training course in India, and from the very first pranayama class we had with her, I felt I had encountered a very unique and powerful teacher. During my time in India, I was lucky to experience Sequoia’s yoga classes, sound healings, and ceremonies. Her understanding and insight into yoga and spiritual exploration are matched by her passion for sharing them with others. And her sense of humour is infectious! I have not stopped telling people about the “things I learned from Sequoia”, and I look forward to the day I can see this incredible teacher again."
