Main Lodge

The main lodge has the character of a western luxury of the last century with a huge, wood-beamed main hall and library with four adjoining spacious bedrooms. Each room sleeps three or four and has its own bathroom. Staying in the main lodge has the advantages of immediate, 24-hour access to the main hall for personal early morning practice and close proximity to the Feathered Pipe kitchen and dining hall where the staffs work their culinary magic.

Experience Montana’s great outdoors in comfort! The most requested lodging at the Feathered Pipe Ranch without question is the yurt accommodations, and for good reason. With large, glass domes located at the center of the lattice-supported, canvas ceiling, brilliant warm sunlight pours in during the day and offers a breathtaking view of the starry sky at night. Nothing compares! The yurts can sleep two and feature raised wood flooring and an interior sealed from the external elements.

Sai Condo

Sai Condo is nestled still farther back in the tall pines with a large floor to ceiling wall of windows and room for three. Both the honeymoon cabin and Sai Condo have heat, but Sai Condo lodgers will need to toddle off on a short walk to the beautiful bathhouse for restroom and shower facilities. Both cabins comfortably straddle the two worlds between nature living and the creature comforts of home.

The tipi dwellers love falling to sleep on elevated cots inside toasty sleeping bags while gazing at the myriad sparkling stars spread across the crystal clear night sky and waking to a cathedral of bird songs welcoming in the new day. An intimate connection with nature can be experienced in tipi living, it’s clear why the Plains Indian tribes developed this perfect nomadic dwelling. The tipis offer you an open “eye to the sky” with canvas walls that shift color, light, and shadow during daylight.

Tent accommodations as well are hidden amidst the trees for those who truly want solitude to “rough it,” the comfortable Feathered Pipe way in the Montana great outdoors. “Roughing it” includes full access to the nearby bathhouse with its fragrant cedarwood, the warmth of the sauna, and soothing bliss inside the sparkling hot tub.

The Ranch Chalet

The chalet offers spectacular views of the Ranch overlooking the lake and the northern Rocky Mountains stretching beyond. Rooms have been hand crafted with wood flooring, abundant soft lighting, wood-chinked, outer walls and baseboard heating for the rare occasions when the wondrous, Montana summer nights become too chilly for your comfort. Private and shared bathrooms are available with a shared veranda for the upper floor and outer deck for the ground floor rooms.

Teachers Cabin

Nestled in the trees next to a small brook near the bathhouse is Teachers Cabin. Having its own kitchenette shared by two one-bedroom apartments with a living room and private bathroom, makes this lodging offering special. Ceiling fans, baseboard heat, and huge comfy queen-size beds assure your comfort in all weather. Typically used by the teachers for each week's workshop, it is now available along with the Lake Cabin for select retreats.

Honeymoon Cabin

Up in the forest beyond Teachers’ Cabin, two more cabins are available for those who like being still more intimate to nature. The Honeymoon Cabin offers a rustic ambiance with a front porch and room for two with a private bathroom. Its proximity to the bathhouse allows you to take full advantages of the sauna, hot tub and restful, healing massage before snuggling in for the night.

Please plan to arrive at the Ranch no later than 5 p.m. on the arrival day (Saturday, 22 August) of your retreat so you can join in for a tour of the grounds before dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the group evening orientation following dinner. Please arrange to leave the ranch in the morning or early afternoon of departure day (Saturday, 29 August). There are no classes or sessions on departure day. The guests are required to depart their lodging by 9 a.m. on departure day to give the staff sufficient time to prepare for incoming guests.

During this week. you’ll review the basics that most yoga students learn about chakras, which is based more on Jungian psychology than the ancient yoga scriptures. You’ll use this as a jumping off point to then understand the energetic structure - the seven layers of each chakra, each with oppositional spin force - and how that affects their role as the ‘hard drive’ of the body’s energetic systems. You’ll discover which chakras need balancing, more or less energy, and how to clear stagnant or disruptive energy from them. This work helps you to release issues from your past that may still be challenging your emotional or nervous system.

The most exciting part of this program is that you’ll receive a powerful and sacred practice to help you influence your future with the chakras. You’ll also learn how to work with your chakras in relation to the elements. All this will be supported by the power of the landscape itself. You’ll also look at the chakras through different spiritual lenses to help you understand the huge and powerful energy this system holds. You’ll leave this week with a comprehensive working view of this dynamic energy system. This course is one of Lauren’s favorites to teach, and you’ll soon see why!

Morning and afternoon practices will be a mixture of lecture, asana practice, and experiential work with the chakras, including some journaling and guided meditation. Lauren Walker has been studying yoga since 1996 and with Donna Eden since 2003, creating Energy Medicine Yoga (EMYoga), with Donna’s blessing. EMYoga is a dynamic yoga practice that raises your practice to the next level with the inclusion of these potent energetic techniques. Lauren will be assisted at this retreat by two advanced EMYoga teachers who will help guide you through this dynamic and magical week together, the secrets of this ancient system.

The daily schedule for individual workshops is customized by the teachers, but a typical day often looks like this:

  • 08:00 Breakfast
  • 09:00 - 12:00 Morning class
  • 12:30 - 13:30 Lunch
  • 13:30 - 16:00 Leisure time
  • 16:00 - 18:00 Afternoon class
  • 18:30 Dinner and optional evening program (time to soak in the hot tub, indulge in a sauna, and relax as you gaze at spectacular Rocky Mountain sunsets)

Retreat location

This retreat will take place at Feathered Pipe Ranch, nestled in the pulsing heart of the northern Rocky Mountains, a place unlike any other. Since 1975, this intimate learning sanctuary outside of Helena, Montana has been the tranquil setting for celebrated teachers helping ordinary people awaken to their extraordinary potential. Luminaries including Joseph Campbell, Lilias Folan, Dr. Andrew Weil, Angela Farmer, Judith Hanson Lasater, Erich Schiffmann, and Seane Corn are just a handful of the celebrated teachers who share their gifts at the Feathered Pipe.

Located outside of Helena, Montana, the Feathered Pipe Ranch is nestled in the pristine Northern Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 5,000 feet. It is surrounded by the Helena National Forest, almost a million acres of mountainous wilderness. The ranch provides a spacious but still intimate setting for wandering, bird watching, aspen-tree gazing, swimming and canoeing on the ranch’s pretty spring-fed lake, and seeing all manner of wildlife.

Deer freely roam the ranch, with beaver, muskrat, mallard ducks and trout populating the lake. Moose and bear occasionally visit, though largely keeping their distance and wishing to be simply let alone. Large herds of elk roam the high alpine grasslands with rare sightings of wolves and mountain lions in the surrounding wilderness areas. At night, owls and whip-poor-wills softly usher you to sleep. And in the morning, a chorus of birds make the forest a cathedral urging the sun to rise welcoming in the new day.
