Imagine a course designed specifically for players, coaches, and trainers at every level, with modules aimed to improve key qualities: strength, stamina, balance, focus and control. The benefits of yoga in football 2-week course provides a solid foundation on which to build knowledge and understanding of ways to enrich the experience and potential of your players, by showing how to deliver fundamental techniques which often provide remarkable results.
Black Beach Resort Varkala has been selected for the ESSR Sports and Wellness/Yoga in Football 14-Day program.
ESSR clients have their own fully air-conditioned room, purpose-built in 2023, with use of all the Black Beach facilities, including beach-front breakfast room and gardens, swimming pool, yoga platform, and meeting rooms.
This special yoga in football residential course is limited to twelve participants only, to maintain an extremely high standard of delivery. This also allows guests the comfort of their own room for the 13 nights package.
Designed to provide a grounding in elements of yoga which promise to enhance athletic performance in any sport, this course has been specifically aimed at football players and those in the coaching team.
By combining regular practical sessions alongside interactive theory classes, the goal of this course is for participants will enjoy physical training from experienced instructors able to provide clear explanations and context for each aspect of the program, which they will subsequently pass on in their own training schedule.
An orientation meeting is scheduled for the late afternoon of arrival day, to provide further detail to the course outline, including timings for daily sessions, and an opportunity to meet course leaders. The group will then share a Welcome Dinner at a clifftop restaurant.
Classes commence in the morning.
Asanas, or postures performed in a particular sequence, are integral to yoga; the course will include two daily practice sessions, morning and evening, (each 60-90 minutes) with a highly experienced guru, featuring asanas considered most beneficial to footballers. Breakfast will follow the early morning practice, then a subsequent interactive classroom session will highlight the beneficial aspects, plus probe the finer qualities of each asana in greater detail, with an opportunity for Q&A.
Breathwork is also a fundamental limb. Through instruction and practice, participants will be provided with a selection of exercises to incorporate into their own program, designed to invigorate, stimulate, or steady and calm the circulatory system, the digestive system, and the central nervous system, as well as the respiratory system itself.
Classes will provide an explanation as to why these techniques are effective in athletic training and provide a host of recommended resources for further investigation and study, to consolidate and extend insights gained from this preliminary course. Some private study during the course is required.
Participants will frequently work in small groups to lead sample sessions in preparation for delivering instruction; final assessment presentations will be given in the closing days of week 2, to incorporate elements of asanas, breath work, mindfulness, and meditation.
Ayurvedic massage combines anatomical knowledge with the ancient knowledge of medicinal plants, harvested to create aromatic oils with healing properties. Participants will enjoy a specialist demonstration with commentary and an opportunity for question and answer, providing insights on this ancient technique and its benefits in sport. To allow everyone to experience the benefits of a bespoke treatment, an individually scheduled one-hour massage is also included in this course.
Since all teams recognize the importance of Diet and Nutrition, a class will be arranged in which a professional Ayurvedic consultant will deliver an introduction to the various food groups of Ayurveda, their features, benefits and drawbacks.
Time for meals, personal study and private time will be included in the daily schedule.
Lunch will be taken together in a designated local restaurant each day, apart from those days when the group will enjoy dinner together at a selected clifftop restaurant. The presentation of certificates will take place on the evening of day 13.
Mr. Sunil Kumar was born in a village called Kadampanad, Pathanamthitta in Kerala, India. After studying at the D.B College Sasthamcotta, he joined the 'Brahmavidya Acharya' course in 1985 at the Sivagiri Mutt Varkala. The Brahmavidya Acharya course is a seven-year course conducted by the Sree Narayana Sivagiri Mutt for prospective sanyasins. For seven years they teach Yoga, Vedanta, and other schools of Indian philosophy. Sunil successfully completed the Brahma vidya acharya course under the guidance of Swami Chitkananda, Swami Kaivalyananda, Prof. R Vasudevan Potti, Prof. G B
Debbie Smith discovered a love of yoga when she came to India in 2018. During initial yoga teacher training, she became especially fascinated by the power of Pranayama breathwork & meditation, and so began a phenomenal pursuit of practice and knowledge in this field. Having consumed studies by internationally respected leaders in the field, and intrigued by countless therapeutic physical and emotional benefits, she completed several international courses, including the prestigious Meditation instructor course of Spiritual Light Dhyan Kendra, Uttar Pradesh. This is a passion she loves to share.
Director of coaching and head coach for clubs and colleges across Europe, the USA, and India, Dek has enjoyed over thirty years in sports development. He is delighted to have this opportunity to put together these unique programs. All ESSR Sports and Wellness initiatives resource the highest levels of expertise for their programs, and they have most certainly managed to recruit some of the best and most experienced yoga teachers in Varkala. Also, his love for cycling having cycled in Europe, America, and India, he believes the yoga and cycling packages will be exciting and incredibly special.
As a Rishikesh native (born and raised), Rohit has experienced yoga as a platform to get true knowledge about oneself. He is continuously involved in this discovery process and teaches yoga with great spirit and passion. His offerings include Hatha yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, Vinyasa Flow, pranayama, meditation, and sound healing. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, and a master’s degree from the Uttarakhand Sanskrit University. He has also taught in India and abroad.

Beaches are within easy walking distance, where local fishermen launch their traditional boats each morning, and haul their catch onto the sand under the watchful eye of vigilant eagles, also keen to snatch a fish!
The ever-popular clifftop pathway provides breathtaking views across the sea, frequented by dolphins and surfers alike: just a part of the beauty of ‘God's own country’. This scenic path winds its way past countless boutique gift stores, coffee shops, and restaurants with international menus: grab a cappuccino, enjoy fresh seafood meals, or browse through trinkets and gift ideas along the way. Be certain to catch the sunset during your stay, from this truly magnificent viewpoint.
Two meals are provided each day, including breakfast.
Yoga in Football Program will include a breakfast buffet at the Black Beach Resort restaurant. ESSR will also provide lunch at selected restaurants in Varkala Beach, apart from those nominated days when an evening meal is provided.
Generally, evening meals are not included in the course fee as there are so many fine restaurants on the cliff, which present several types of culinary experiences and the opportunity to enjoy an amazing sunset.
However, there will be a welcome dinner on your first night together at one of these fine restaurants (day one), a Saturday night dinner on day 6, and a final night award dinner to commemorate night 13 of your course.
These special dinners are included in your course fee.
Although some items below will be included as a taster session over the 14 day program, course members may wish to get involved further in activities during their own personal time, for an additional fee, outside of the course itinerary, and at the individual's own risk.
As part of the course, the group will experience the benefits of Kalari massage with a demonstration of this special technique for the treatment of particular muscles, and specific joints and to enhance general flexibility. Each member of the group will also have one massage during the program. Any additional massage can be requested by the individual through the ESSR program for an additional fee.
There are several spa treatment centers in and around your resort, which you can book outside of the course daily schedule for an additional fee.

They fully understand that arriving in a new country for the first time can be worrying, ESSR Staff will be there to assist you on arrival at the International Arrivals Lounge, Trivandrum Airport. All ESSR guests will be personally met and welcomed by ESSR Representatives at Trivandrum Airport and escorted by private car & Driver to the Black Beach Resort (around a 1-hour journey), to be checked in and shown your room, where you can relax and unwind after your flight.
