The accommodation will be in one of the lovely eco yurts. The Yoga Holidays Portugal guests are always very pleasantly surprised by just how comfortable everything is, (despite being ecofriendly) and how well the system for water heating, electricity and heating the yurts in the cooler months works.
All yurts and the bell tent have electricity, solar reading lamps, shelving and some storage space, carpets and rugs. All the beds have mosquito nets.
Bathrooms and toilets are shared by a maximum of five guests. As they are living sustainably, the bathrooms have solar heated hot water and eco-composting toilets. The bathrooms and toilets are built in a modern style using wood from their land; they are clean, comfortable and totally green!
The morning classes will be stronger physical classes, with dynamic movement and heating postures, while the afternoon classes will include more meditation and slower asana practice. The end of the week will bring the guests favorite: wine, bonfire and hot tub evening.
This retreat is located in a unique and beautiful small eco retreat center in the heart of Portugal, in Ribeira Relvas, Oleiros; close to a stunning reservoir for swimming and a short walk away from a picturesque traditional Portuguese village.
The food prepared and served is tasty and wholesome vegetarian and vegan food. They use vegetables from their own organic garden and then locally sourced fruit and vegetables. They spend a lot of time and care preparing the food for the guests, and they get really great feedback. The food served is approximately 80 percent vegan, and 30-40 percent raw.
Breakfast is self-service with seasonal fruits, a selection of cereals and toasted sourdough and local corn bread, accompanied by homemade jam or marmalade. A selection of tea (green, black and herbal) and coffee is available throughout the day.
Lunches are fresh garden salads, grain salads, falafel or Spanish omelette. Usually served with a variety of raw dips, nut pates, or hummus.
Evening meals include a variety of curries with biryani rice or coconut rice, vegetable noodles with stir-fried tofu and vegetables, moussaka and salad, spiced potatoes with honey aubergine and couscous. The resort is also growing goats, which enables them to produce their own cheese.
The property is surrounded by woods, with many tracks and beautiful old abandoned houses and buildings. It is also close to the reservoir, and the village. There are many forest tracks to explore and spend time walking in the woods.
There is a selection of local therapists available to provide treatments for our guests, depending on the retreat week. Often the yoga teachers offer various treatments. Jo Tison offers Reiki and Thai massage. Blanche Mulholland offers Shiatsu. Local therapist Aoife Carter specializes in myofascial release and other techniques to work with issues within the body, or recovery from injury and trauma.
The resort is located a 10-15 minutes walk from the Cabril reservoir. It is also close to several local wild swimming locations for guests with cars.
Guests often enjoy a walk to the local village, where there are two cafes and small shops selling snacks, drinks, ice cream etc.
