Hostal Rigo features a full kitchen and dining areas, five bedrooms (capacity of 16 people but the group will have a maximum of 12 people), and three bathrooms with showers plus one shower outside. It also comes complete with a swimming pool with fountains, drinking water, 40 feet of beachfront area, fresh water storage tank, sunset view terrace, lounge with hammocks, emergency electric generator, and built-in charcoal grill.



Upon completion of this yoga teacher training, students will receive certificate affiliated with Yoga Chikitsa Nicaragua. Registration with Yoga Chikitsa Nicaragua meets identified standard set by the organization.

To whom this course is addressed

Most yoga styles are Yang in their asana practice and target the lengthening, strengthening of the muscles and releasing emotions out of them. In the Yin style, it is the connective tissue and meridians (nadis) which are addressed to release blocks in their flow.

This 200-hour Yin and Yang teacher training course is perfect for those who want to experience these different styles (Ashtanga, Vinyasa flow, Hatha - Iyengar, Restorative and Yin), develop an understanding of the benefits of each and be able to choose the practice which will be the most beneficial according to different conditions, needs, and priorities.

This 200-hour Yin and Yang yoga teacher training course is a challenging three-week experience, demanding discipline and perseverance, where a basic knowledge of yoga postures and philosophy would be helpful and a sincere desire to learn and being open to the teachings of yoga is essential.

Learning objectives

In this course, you will learn:

  • The meaning and definition of yoga, its origin, and history. The different schools, lineage and the styles of yoga. The yoga philosophy through the traditional texts (e.g. Yoga Sutras of Patanjali).
  • The meaning, principle and benefits of the eight limbs (Ashtanga yoga) and how to apply them in life and class.
  • The human anatomy and physiology, including all major systems of the body as well as the yogic anatomy and physiology (chakras, nadis, etc.) and their interrelationships, as relevant to the work of a yoga teacher through their application to yoga practice (benefits and contraindication).
  • How to begin and develop a yoga class according to yoga principles and the characteristics of a good teacher namely sequencing and teaching methodology (establish priorities, demonstration, observation, assisting, correcting and evaluating).
  • The meaning, objectives, and characteristic of 45 essential asanas. The method, the benefits of each and how to practice and teach them.
  • The method and benefits of essential breathing exercises (pranayama) and how to practice and teach them.
  • The meaning, defining characteristic and objective of meditation, the method and benefits of relaxation and meditation, and how to manage stress and increase mind power.
  • To clean and detoxify the body.

Yoga teaching and philosophy

  • Definition and meaning of yoga
  • Origin and history of yoga: evolution of the teachings and philosophy of the yoga tradition, the four paths of yoga, the different schools and lineage, the distinction between styles and method of yoga, the traditional texts (eg: the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali)

  • Pranayama (regulated breathing exercises): benefits and contraindications of the following pranayamas according to disease and specific condition, namely abdominal breathing, thoracic breathing, clavicular breathing, full yogic breath, Nadi Shodhana, Brammhari, Bhastrika, Kapalabhati, Sheetali and Sheetkari, and Ujjayi
  • Bandhas: benefits and contraindications of the following bandhas according to disease and specific condition, namely Moola Bhandha, Uddiyana Bandha, Jalandhara Bandha, and Maha Bandha
  • Meditation and relaxation techniques: quick relaxation technique (a guided 10-to-15-minute practice which helps release emotional and mental tensions. The student learns how to guide this and is free to apply it on his / her teaching practicum), deep relaxation technique, yoga Nidra, and introduction to Vipassana meditation
  • Mudras (what are mudras and how to use them in yogic practice): Chin mudra, Jnana mudra, Anjali mudra, Shambavi mudra, Nasikagra mudra, Prana mudra, Shanmukhi mudra, Kechari and Kaki mudra, Dhyana mudra, Mahamudra (the great attitude), and Vipareeta Karani mudra (reversing attitude)
  • Mantras: understanding the meaning and the use of mantras, as well as chanting (sound therapy / vibration)
  • Kriyas: Jala Neti (cleansing of the nostril passages), Trataka (cleansing of the eyes), Kapalabhati (cleansing of the mind), Sutra Neti (nasal cavity cleansing), Kunjali Kriya (digestive tract cleansing), Nauli (abdominal massage), and Basti (intestine cleanse)
  • Food body and yoga (introduction)

Teaching practicum

As the final teaching practicum, the student should be able to deliver a led class of two hours of his / her authority. The led class will encompass all the elements seen during the training such as:

  • Sequencing.
  • Flow of the practice and its limitations.
  • Contraindications for the given practice.
  • Ability to maintain the led class within the designated time.
  • Floor management.
  • Body language and clarity of voice.
  • Ability to be present for the student.

Legality, regulatory, and business issues

This covers the knowledge of current relevant laws and regulations impacting the work of a yoga therapist, basic knowledge of business practices relevant to the work of a yoga therapist, including record keeping and planning, as well as personal and professional development. Personal and professional development include:

  • Knowledge of the fundamental value of ongoing personal practice and skills.
  • Maintenance / development through continuing education.
  • Knowledge of when and how to seek advice and support for case consultation, educational advancement, and personal practice.


Different types of evaluations will be taken into account for certification on this program:

  • Teaching practicums as well as final led class
  • Assisting all classes as well as turning in all assignments / homework
  • Written test and quiz
  • Karma yoga

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be given a 200-hour yoga teacher training certificate in which you will be eligible to register with Yoga Alliance for a 200-hour yoga teacher.

  • 06:30-08:30 General practice

  • 12:45-15:30 Lunch and self-studies
  • 15:30-16:30 Theory class 3 / therapy
  • 16:30-18:30 Specific practice / therapy
  • 18:30 Dinner and self-studies

Notes: Total hours of classes are 7.5 hours per day with two days off, divided into 3.5 hours of theory and 4 hours of practical. The schedule may differ slightly according to specific need. Some hours of self-studies will be included within the three weeks instead of theory class timing according to special events or group assignment.

Destino del retiro

This yoga teacher training will take place at Hostal Rigo in Las Peñitas, León, Nicaragua. Buses to Las Penitas or Leon run hourly, stopping next door to the house. Several restaurants and beach bars in Poneloya are a five-to-ten-minute walk or in Las Penitas five to ten minutes by bus from the house. Historic Leon is 12 miles / 15 minutes away.

¿Cómo llegar?

Arrival by bus

First, you have to take a taxi from the airport to UCA bus station in Managua (a maximum of 20 USD). Then, take a minibus from UCA station until the bus station (La terminal) in Leon (61 NIO or 2 USD). You can take a taxi from La terminal directly to Las Peñitas that will cost between 10-15 USD or take a taxi to Mercadito de Sutiaba. After that, take the bus from Mercadito de Sutiaba. There is only one bus that goes every 45 minutes to Poneloya / Las Peñitas (14 NIO or 0.5 USD). Please ask to get down at Hostel Rigo. The center is next to it!
