The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. They are newly built with nice flooring and furniture, a private and clean bathroom with hot shower, and beds with good quality mattresses. It has a very quiet and inspiring atmosphere for self-reflection and deep yoga studies and practices. Rooms are equipped with fan and window nets. Students are usually accommodated in a twin sharing room with a person of the same gender. Private rooms may be booked in advance or according to availability.


About Wise Living Yoga Academy

Wise Living Yoga Academy is an educational body affiliated to The Yoga Institute of Santacruz, Mumbai, India, the worlds oldest organized yoga institution. They impart yoga education and lifestyle principles of classical yoga, following the lineage of the late Shri Yogendraji, the father of modern yoga renaissance, direct disciple of Guru Pujya Paramahamsa Madhavadasji.


This particular part of the module provides a foundation on classical yoga philosophy and practices including meditation, Asanas (postural training), Pranayamas (breathing techniques), and simple Kriyas (cleansing techniques).

People glibly speak about yoga without realizing that it forms an integral part of a composite Samkhya-yoga philosophy, the oldest philosophical system in the world. Samkhya provides the theoretical base without which one can neither understand the philosophy of Patanjali (the Yoga Sutras or Ashtanga yoga) nor derive full benefit of yoga by just practicing mechanically at the physical level.

It was stated in the Mahabharat: There is no wisdom like Samkhya, no power like yoga; and in the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna tells the warrior Arjuna: The ignorant differentiate between Samkhya and yoga, not the wise. He who sees the two as the same has the right understanding.

Therefore, anyone interested to understand yoga in its entirety should start by studying the Samkhya, metaphysics, and then proceed to learn the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. All techniques in yoga are meant to allow the practitioner to bring the philosophy to the practical level. If you dont know why you are practicing yoga, or if you dont have the right attitude towards the practice, youll be hardly practicing any real yoga.

Bhagavad Gita

In this part of the course, the student will be lead to dive deeper into traditional yoga as the Bhagavad Gita will be explained in the view of the four paths of yoga: namely, Raja yoga, Jnana yoga, Bhakti yoga, and Karma yoga as popularized by Swami Vivekananda.

The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most important books on yoga. It reveals the 4 main validly approaches/paths to the ultimate truth, because it contains the essence of the Upanishads. The Bhagavad Gita is also known as Gitopanishad and is written in dialogue format. The conversation between Krishna (the lord of yoga) and Arjuna the great pandava warrior in the imminence of a war. Lord Krishna advices Arjuna on what the right way would be for fulfilling his duties and destiny as a warrior (shatrya) and at the same time made it the path to ultimate wisdom and enlightenment.

The message of the Gita is a practical advice on how each one of us is living on this earth to fulfill a mission and we are to do it in a specific way with the right attitude of mind; for this is the means to spiritual evolvement. This is verily the path of Karma yoga. Following this path, one will gradually evolve to the highest state of yoga (Raja yoga), developing control over ones own mind, complete mastery over ones own personality, and eventually attaining the ultimate truth. Thats all about yoga.

The study of the Bhagavad Gita is also important to bring the complete understanding of yoga as a heritage of Indian culture and within the perspective of Vedanta. Thats because the text of the Gita is very syncretic, unifying the ideas presented in the Samkhya system and in the Vedanta system. It is therefore essential for the understanding of yoga as a holistic path for self-development.

Rules and regulations

The applicants should not join the program if they are only interested in acquiring a yoga certification;

The applicants should be aware that the main objective of the course is to provide opportunity for development of self-knowledge and yogic expertise through the following of a good routine and self-discipline besides the understanding of yoga philosophy and techniques;

Yoga education is not a conventional type of education or learning. Introversion, self-awareness, and meditative practices are encouraged throughout the course;

Our yoga programs have no religious approach. However, the applicants should be aware that yoga is a heritage of Indian culture and Vedic tradition. It is integral part of the course, the study of Indian scriptures of religious-philosophical nature (like the Bhagavad Gita, etc.) along with the chanting of Vedic mantras and the study and memorization of Sanskrit vocabulary;

Trainees are requested to maintain a yogic atmosphere of sincerity and positivity;

Meat of any kind, seafood, egg, tobacco, illicit drugs, alcoholic drinks, coffee, and black tea are under no circumstances allowed during the course;

Attendance to all classes is compulsory. Trainees should follow the time table and complete the assignments with the necessary discipline and dedication;

Participants with overt emotional and mentally anxious condition or with indulgent and uninhibited behavior may be asked to discontinue the course at any time;

The academy reserves the right, to return or not, in part or otherwise the course fees.

Please note that if you want to attend the Bhagavad Gita course, but have not yet attended the Samkhya-Yoga course, please understand you have to register for both the courses directly and get a 300 USD discount for the 2 weeks residential program.

In this way, youll be automatically completing the first module (100 hours) of our yoga teacher training course and will be eligible to attend the last 2 weeks of the teacher training any time in the future. This also means you may be certified as a yoga teacher by Wise Living Yoga Academy at the 200 hours level.

Destino del retiro

Located in the outskirts of Chiang Mai, in the district of Doi Saket, our new training facility is set in midst of rice fields and surrounded by hills and forests. The center provides an Ashram-like environment which is ideal for the full immersion experience in traditional yoga studies. The center is built around a lovely garden with many plants, flowers, and trees. There is also a small pond with aquatic plants.

Vegetarian, wholesome, clean, and nutritious meals are served three times a day plus an afternoon tea. At tea time, the students can make their own natural teas for cleansing/detoxification such as cinnamon tea, turmeric tea, ginger tea, lemon tea or even make a hot soya milk drink. Natural dark brown cane sugar is served along with the tea. We take a lot of care to provide good quality food, so no white sugar, refined, or canned foods are served. The diet has varieties of beans, grains, lentils, tropical fresh fruits, nuts, and freshly cooked vegetables.


Outside food is strictly not allowed to be brought into the center, especially non-vegetarian items and processed unnatural food, chewing gums, etc. Please also DO NOT bring with you any alcoholic drinks, or cigarettes/tobacco (or any other illicit drugs). If you are caught with any one of these items during the course, inside or outside of our center, youll be asked to leave the course at once.

Actividades opcionales

During the weekends, students will have the opportunity to enjoy walks in midst of the rural farming area, exuberant greenery of the rice fields, and other beauties of the Luang Nuea municipality in Doi Saket.

One should not miss visiting Wat Phrathat Doi Saket at the top of the hill.

Enjoy also a short hiking to the nearby Mae Kuang Dam with the Khun Tan Range in the background.

Arrival by taxi

A pre-paid taxi can be easily booked at the airport counter for 550 THB (around 20 USD). The center can be reached by an inside road from the highway. It is lined with shady trees. On the way, you can enjoy the view of the rice fields and mountains in the background and the fresh air. Visitors can also take a yellow car from Warorot Market / Ton Lum Yai Market from 06:30 to 18:00 until Doi Saket.
