For your stay in Tenerife, you can choose between a private room or a twin shared room.

During this yoga retreat, you will enjoy six and a half days of Hatha Flow yoga based on Ujjayi breath. All levels of practitioners are welcome. This luxury retreat offers the opportunity to dive into yoga based on Ujjayi breath and a yoga style based on traditions. Step by step, you will enhance and refine your practice and get an in-depth understanding of yoga.

There will also be one full silent day. Arrival is on Saturday, from 3 p.m. and the first class will take place the next morning at 8 a.m. Each day will begin in silence until after the yoga class.

Hatha Flow yoga

Hatha Flow yoga classes are for students who like to practice yoga in a less dynamic manner and also serve as a preparation for Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. The classes are oriented towards the foundation of yoga, like building up a practice towards sun salutation through easy warm-up postures, Vinyasa Krama (breathing-movement-system), alignment, awareness, pranayama (conscious breathing), meditation, drishti (mind focus), dharana (concentration), and philosophy.

Hatha Flow yoga with Anouschka represents an integration of a variety of yoga styles like Iyengar, classical Hatha, Vinyasa, and Yin yoga, to start your journey into yoga at ease, building up a safe foundation for your personal practice. Postures and techniques are applied according to the practice level of students.

The aim of these classes is a step-by-step building up of a stable foundation for your yoga practice, integrating techniques and developing vitality, flexibility, breathing rhythm, and awareness.

Ujjayi breath

Ujjayi means “victorious” and is the most powerful pranayama technique that, when practiced properly and regularly, has an immense cleansing and profoundly purifying effect on the practitioner. Ujjayi breathing is the foundation for Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga and can be applied in any other yoga asana practice or just as a pranayama exercise.

The sound produced in Ujjayi guides the practitioner to synchronize their breath with the movements in Vinyasa (breathing-movement-system) while remaining in the asana. Ujjayi can also be practiced while seated during a pranayama session, as well as before or after any Hatha yoga session.

The technique of Ujjayi should be a prolonged breath which should be smooth, like a prolonged sigh or the sound of ocean waves coming and going. This sound is gained by slightly contracting the epiglottis backward so the breath can flow behind the back of the opening throat while the mouth is closed.

The chest lifts up during inhalation, opening the rib cage and the lungs. During exhalation, the air is smoothly pressed out while the chest slowly moves down. The movements are caused by the diaphragm. In ancient days, it was said that Ujjayi pranayama would melt the snow and even helps you to conquer death.     Anouschka is the founder, owner, and director of The Yogashala Canary Islands. She was certified as an international yoga teacher and in Vedanta (RYS / YA 700-hour) in India. Anouschka was also certified in the tradition of Ashtanga yoga for primary series by Manju Jois. Additionally, she is trained as a life coach and Alpha Chi consultant for energy body Feng Shui. Being an Ashtanga yoga practitioner, she offers retreats and teacher training in Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin yoga on the beautiful Canary Islands. ​She has also studied meditation, as well as the chanting of sacred Vedic texts.

This yoga retreat will take place in Tenerife, an island that offers bountiful experiences, which makes it the perfect place for a yoga retreat. The abundance and diversity of life on the island will alert and invigorate all of your senses. The plethora of nature keeps visitors in the moment and allows for a deep sense of presence with nature.

Tenerife is the biggest island of the Canary Islands, and Mount Teide on Tenerife is the highest mountain in all of Spain. This intense topography creates microclimates on the island, which have resulted in the richest and most diverse vegetation of all of the Canary Islands. Such grandiose claims make this island a glorious travel destination.

Tenerife has unique environmental conditions. The vivid and beautifully juxtaposed colors of the island are a majestic sight. Being immersed in this natural artwork gives energy and joy to all visitors.

In addition to everything included, private yoga sessions are available upon request and other activities can be booked at the retreat center. You can also book an energizing and deeply transformative energy body feng shui session to purify your system and enhance your energy level. Sessions can be booked with Anouschka. Additional massages or treatments can be booked at the retreat center. During your free time, you can also visit the nearby island of La Graciosa.

Please book your flight to arrive at Tenerife South Airport (TFS). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Airport transfers are about 35 EUR per person, and between 50 EUR and 70 EUR per car.
