Join The Sanctuary - Vegan Community and Health Retreats for this intensive retreat to begin a healthier lifestyle. You will dive deep into the healing therapy from Osho, yoga classes, and meditation sessions. During this retreat, you will stay in a wonderful accommodation where you can feel the breath of nature, immerse in the fresh air, and explore your inner self.
The Sanctuary offers several options for shared, semi-private, or private rooms. You may stay at The Sanctuary as a personal retreat participant in a shared room and are not required to register for a workshop or custom retreat to stay at The Sanctuary or to pay extra for a private room.
Private rooms can be reserved in lieu of the standard offering including a bed in a shared room for an additional fee. Private rooms are ideal for those looking for additional comfort and privacy. All private room fees can be split between two or more people who are staying together in the room. Sometimes, during the peak season or when The Sanctuary offers a custom retreat and they expect to be full, they may increase the additional charge for a private room to compensate for being unable to accommodate all who wish to join the retreat.
A stay in this shared room is a standard offering included in the price of a personal retreat, a custom retreat, or a work retreat. The Ascension room on the second story is the main shared room. It has three single beds and a single size bunk bed, therefore accommodating up to five people. Guests are usually offered the standard beds with work retreat participants usually taking the bunk-beds.
Guests staying in the Ascension room share the upstairs bathroom with guests staying in the Healing and Nirvana rooms. There are two bathrooms downstairs that can also be used. Sometimes, if the Ascension room is full, they use other rooms as shared rooms but they do not offer an option to choose which is the shared room. Also, sometimes it may be necessary to move beds or even rooms to accommodate incoming guests.
Facing the east, the Healing room invites the rejuvenating morning sunshine. The Healing room has one queen-size bed and they can add a single bed to accommodate up to three people. Guests staying in the Healing room share the upstairs bathroom with guests staying in the Ascension and Nirvana rooms. There are two bathrooms downstairs that can also be used.
These two rooms are in an annex next door to The Sanctuary. These two bedrooms have been created within one very large room with fixed wooden partition wall room dividers. The Karma room has one queen size bed. The Seva room has two single beds and one is a top bunk. The Seva room is the bigger room of the two.
Although the rooms have privacy from each other, the partition walls do not reach the ceiling so there is not complete noise privacy. They, however, have the advantage of all day access to the swimming pool. Guests living in The Sanctuary have access only between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Be aware that there are some unfinished constructions happening on the property although the majority of the work is done. The rooms are priced to take account of this.
The Mandala room is the most luxurious room at The Sanctuary, with its own luxury full bathroom and a large private balcony overlooking the garden. Facing the east, the Mandala room is blessed with the vibrant morning sunlight and the evening freshness when it is time to wind down and relax. The room has a queen-size bed for one or two people and they can add a single bed or another queen-size bed to accommodate a third or fourth person.
Facing the west, the Nirvana room benefits from the lingering energy of the ocean sunsets. The Nirvana room has one queen-size bed and a single size bunk bed so it can accommodate up to three or four people. Sometimes, they add another single bed to the room if used as a shared room. Guests staying in the Nirvana room share the upstairs bathroom with guests staying in the Ascension and Healing rooms. There are two bathrooms downstairs that can also be used.
The Peace room is a semi-private room which has two bunk beds so it can accommodate up to two people. The Peace room is separated in two using a room divider. One of it is sometimes used for therapies during the daytime at which time guests staying in the Peace room are asked to use other private spaces at The Sanctuary to relax.
The linen shelving is located in the therapy side of the room so access is allowed for this while you are in the room. However, the room divider gives visual privacy to the bed space. The Peace room is located next to the open living space for meditation and workshops. There are two bathrooms downstairs that can be used by guests staying in the Peace room.
Located in the backyard within the walls of The Sanctuary garden, the standalone Love Casita offers the most privacy at The Sanctuary. It has its own separate entrance gate and can also be accessed through the garden. The Love Casita has its own shaded rooftop space to relax, read a book, or watch the sunset and has its own small en-suite shower room.
The Love Casita has a queen-size bed for one or two people, and they can add a single bed or even another double to accommodate up to four people. From the first day of May in 2017 onwards, the Love Casita is not available.
This no mind therapy, a retreat facilitated by Ma Prem Neelam, is an intensive, Osho-inspired healing therapy. Ma Prem Neelam is the owner of a small hotel in Puerto Escondido. She offers this Osho no mind therapy at The Sanctuary. For the last eight years, Ma Prem Neelam has been training in the field of psycho-emotional therapy by Swami Devageet, one of the closest disciples of the enlightened master Osho.
Osho No Mind is a seven-day therapy, which includes one hour of Gibberish and one hour of silent sitting together as a group from about 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. It also includes the one-hour Osho dynamic meditation at 6.30 a.m. and one hour of Osho kundalini meditation in the late afternoon, followed by the Osho evening meeting after your dinner.
This retreat starts with arrival on the second Sunday of each month, with the seven-day process commencing on Monday. Departure is the following Monday morning.
In this part of the mid-morning no mind session, you will have the perfect opportunity to throw out the gibberish of the mind.
This sessions give you the possibility to just say everything that you ever wanted to say and have not been able to say because of civilization, education, culture, and society. Be very passionate, as if you are talking, as if your whole life is at stake. You are talking nonsense and there is nobody except you, but be passionate, be in a passionate dialogue. Saying anything that is moving in your mind, all kinds of rubbish - throw it out.
And say it in any language you don’t know! Use Chinese, if you don't know Chinese. Use Japanese if you don't know Japanese. Don't use German if you know German. Shouting, laughing, crying, making noises, making gestures. Sounds will come - utter them - and one sound will lead into another. Soon you will be speaking Chinese and Italian and French, languages that you don’t know. Simply allow whatever comes to your mind without bothering about its rationality, reasonability, meaning, or significance. For the first time enjoy that freedom - the same as all the birds have.
Do it totally, with great enthusiasm; be authentic, honest. You have to be total. Don’t act or do it automatically like a robot. Be sincere and make it a reality. So, don't be partial, don't be middle-class. Be a first-rate crazy man! Just go crazy without any fear. Don't spare anything. Don't sit there like a Buddha; that stage comes later. Remember, the first step in meditation is to forget the whole world and just bring out all your craziness in rubbish, gibberish sounds, gestures. As you throw it out you will find yourself becoming light, becoming more alive. But be total because once you are freed of it, then there is a possibility of going deeper into silence than you have ever gone.
This meditation is a fast, intense, and thorough way to break old, ingrained patterns in the body-mind that keep one imprisoned in the past and to experience the freedom, the witnessing, silence, and peace that are hidden behind these prison walls. The meditation is meant to be done in the early morning, when as Osho explains it, “the whole of nature becomes alive, the night has gone, the sun is coming up, and everything becomes conscious and alert.”
The meditation lasts one hour and has five stages. You need to keep your eyes closed throughout and using a blindfold if necessary. It can be done alone and can be even more powerful if it is done with others.
The first stage is 10 minutes. Breathing chaotically through the nose, let breathing be intense, deep, fast without rhythm, with no pattern, and concentrating always on the exhalation. The body will take care of the inhalation. The breath should move deeply into the lungs. Do this as fast and as hard as you possibly can until you literally become the breathing. Use your natural body movements to help you to build up your energy. Feel it building up, but do not let go during the first stage.
The second stage is 10 minutes. Let go of everything that needs to be thrown out. You will follow your body, give your body freedom to express whatever is there, go totally mad, scream, shout, cry, jump, kick, shake, dance, sing, and laugh, throw yourself around, hold nothing back, and keep your whole body moving. A little acting often helps to get you started. Never allow your mind to interfere with what is happening.
The third stage is 10 minutes. With arms raised high above your head, you will jump up and down shouting the mantra, “Hoo! Hoo! Hoo!”, as deeply as possible. Each time you land, on the flats of your feet, let the sound hammer deep into the sex center. Give all you have and exhaust yourself completely.
The fourth stage is 15 minutes. Freeze wherever you are, in whatever position, you will find yourself. Do not arrange the body in any way. A cough, a movement, or anything will dissipate the energy flow and the effort will be lost. Be a witness to everything that is happening to you.
The fifth stage is 15 minutes. You will celebrate with music and dance express whatsoever is there. Carry your aliveness with you throughout the day. If your meditation space prevents you from making noise, you can do this silent alternative. Rather than throwing out the sounds, let the catharsis in the second stage take place entirely through bodily movements. In the third stage, the sound "hoo" can be hammered silently inside and the fifth stage can become an expressive dance.
This sister meditation to the Osho dynamic is best done at sunset or in the late afternoon. Being fully immersed in the shaking and dancing of the first two stages helps to melt the rock-like being, wherever the energy flow has been repressed and blocked. Then that energy can flow, dance, and be transformed into bliss and joy. The last two stages enable all this energy to flow vertically and to move upwards into silence. It is a highly effective way of unwinding and letting go at the end of the day.
The meditation is one hour long with four stages. The first stage is 15 minutes. Be loose and let your whole body shake while feeling the energies moving up from your feet. Let go everywhere and become the shaking. Your eyes may be open or closed. The second stage is 15 minutes. Dance any way you feel and let the whole body move as it wishes. Again, your eyes can be open or closed.
The third stage is 15 minutes. Close your eyes and be still, sitting or standing, observing, and witnessing whatever is happening inside and out. The fourth stage is 15 minutes. Keeping your eyes closed, lie down, and be still.
This is the second part of the no mind session during late mornings. You will be silent, close your eyes, and feel the body to be completely frozen.
This retreat will take place at The Sanctuary in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. Puerto Escondido, in the estate of Oaxaca, combines the most exciting elements of the Mexican Pacific Ocean. Its mountains roll down towards the sea to bathe in the deep blue waters creating a fascinating landscape.
You will find restaurants, bars, galleries, and music festivals. There are several beaches in Puerto Escondido, some more swimmable than others. Puerto's most famous beach, Zicatela, is great for surfing but not usually for swimming. Playa Marinero, Carrizalillo, Puerto Angelito, and Manzanillo beach are usually swimmable. La Punta is a walking distance from The Sanctuary and is quite swimmable at times.

From Monday to Saturday, The Sanctuary - Vegan Community and Health Retreats offers healthy plant-based community lunches and dinners and a breakfast green smoothie. They follow fairly closely a specific health and nutrition menu designed for The Sanctuary by a Mexican friend, Alex, who has studied at The Ann Wigmore center in Sweden and at Gabriel Cousens Tree of Life center. The menu has a specific purpose to help cleanse and invite light into the bodies.
Your stay includes a complete meal package as described above. You need to let The Sanctuary - Vegan Community and Health Retreats know if you will not attend any meals so they know how many people to prepare for and to avoid food wastage.
All green smoothies and meals are free for all guests and work retreat participants. The breakfast green smoothie will be served at 9:15 a.m. You will enjoy lunch at 1 p.m. and your dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. If you would like to join a meal as a drop-in guest, please let them know if you are coming at least two hours before lunch and dinner to confirm availability and they can prepare accordingly. Most people come to the yoga class directly before breakfast.
In this retreat, you will enjoy a daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and unlimited fruit snacks. All meals at The Sanctuary are vegan, nutritious, delicious, and healing. The Sanctuary is a plant-based household serving mostly raw and gluten-free foods. Please ask in advance if you have any specific dietary restrictions so The Sanctuary can let you know if the kitchen can handle your request.
The normal menu consists of a large green smoothie for breakfast sometimes with one or more tonics that may include ginger, moringa, turmeric, agnihotra ash, cardamon, cinnamon, aloe vera, cayenne, cloves, among others. Healthy vegan food is made for lunch and dinner. All meals are homemade with lots of love.
Although avoiding snacking between meals might be more supportive to the healing process, for those who wish, The Sanctuary usually supplies a mid morning nutritional snack, and either a mid afternoon drink or fresh fruit.
Please be aware that the kitchen is not available for guests use. No coffee, meat, fish, processed junk foods, or dairy products are allowed at The Sanctuary. If you are not used to such a clean diet, you may experience detox symptoms such as flu-like feelings, body aches and pains, headaches, tiredness, or emotional outbreaks. As you eat more higher vibration foods, the old lower vibration energies in your body will release in physical and emotional forms. The symptoms may be reduced by following some of the healing modalities which are included in the price of your stay.
The Sanctuary has a fast on Sundays with water, coconut water, or fruit for several reasons. Fasting gives your digestive system a rest and provides an opportunity to focus on the spiritual. Although not required, if fruit or coconut water is not enough for you, you can visit one of the many nearby restaurants, this practice is beneficial for the majority of the guests. No food preparation is done on Sundays.
During your free time, you can take part of several activities such as taking an additional surfing lesson, swimming, boating, or simply relax under a palm tree. You can also choose to do some volunteer work at The Sanctuary or book one of their massages.
You will be staying close to Puerto's most famous beach, Zicatela, which is great for surfing. You can also visit Playa Marinero, Carrizalillo, Puerto Angelito, and Manzanillo beach which are usually swimmable.
Massages are available at additional costs.
Please book your flight to arrive at Puerto Escondido International Airport (PXM). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request.
