Start 2018 feeling deeply relaxed and totally revitalized. A New Year’s retreat is the perfect opportunity to take time out to rest deeply, reflect upon, and release anything that has held you back over the past year so you can welcome in the new year with greater clarity and inner harmony. The focus of the retreat is on nourishing you on all levels through sensitive yoga, meditation, massage therapy, delicious food, and coastal walks.

The villas are modern and comfortable with central heating and lovely views. The setting is peaceful and tranquil surrounded by beautiful Portuguese countryside, just a short drive to the beach.

The rooms

There are 14 rooms in total offering a range of accommodation such as double rooms for couples, twin-shares and a couple of larger rooms with 3-4 beds so if you are a group of friends travelling together you are welcome to share these rooms. Some rooms have ensuites or a terrace.

If you are travelling solo you may book just one bed in a twin shared room with another guest of the same gender. Places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. All bedding and a towel for showering will be provided.


A retreat is the perfect opportunity to restore balance, harmony, and clarity to your life. Michelle’s focus is on inviting a deeper experience of yoga rather than exploring extreme postures so the practice is both accessible, and enjoyable, for everyone. If you have a body and can breathe, you are welcome, regardless of your capacity and/or experience.

Classes are based on the Dynamic Yoga method. Rather than yet another style, DY is a method of learning and exploration focused on physical integrity, especially of the spine, and on increasing your sensitivity and awareness so that ultimately your body becomes your teacher, and guide, rather than any external source. There is a strong emphasis and exploration of the bandhas ás an invitation to rediscover the wholeness that already exists within you.

You will be invited to explore your capacity moment by moment and to become intimate with the flow of sensations arising within you. In shifting your focus to feeling rather than thinking, the mind quietens and becomes absorbed into the whole, and that is why an authentic yoga practice, based on sensitivity to what is actually happening, is so deeply relaxing and restorative. What you do on your mat should make you feel good, inside and out.

Meditation practice will be based upon being aware of all that is arising within you - sensations arising in the body, and thoughts arising in the mind - so everyone can enjoy it as a practice.

Daily schedule

  • 8:30 - 10:30 Morning class: asana, pranayama, relaxation and a little sitting
  • 10.30 Breakfast
  • 11:00 Personal time for taking a walk, reading, socialising, taking a nap, having a massage
  • 14:00 Lunch
  • 15:00 Personal time, massage, excursions to the beach or Buddha Eden
  • 18:00 Afternoon class on 4 days, followed by daily meditation.
  • 20:00 Dinner

Excursiones (incluidas)

Daily trips to the beach to enjoy coastal walks and a trip to Buddha Eden are included.

This retreat will be held at The Maverick guesthouses, set in a tranquil countryside location just 5 minutes drive to the nearest beach on Portugal’s Silver Coast. You will have exclusive use of all 3 guesthouses which are modern, cozy, and homely - perfect for socializing with like-minded guests.

Food will be hearty, wholesome, vegetarian or vegan and will be prepared from scratch wherever possible to retain the maximum vitality and nutritional value. Lovingly prepared with fresh ingredients, a wholefoods-based diet is perfect for yoga practice as it softens the tissues, supports clear thinking, promotes healing and gently cleanses the body.

All fresh produce is locally sourced to support the local community and will be lovingly prepared by a retreat chef with years of experience in cooking tasty wholefoods.

Actividades opcionales

Be as active as you want to be or take the opportunity to rest deeply. Daily beach trips to Areia Branca are included so you can enjoy walking on the beach. Also included is a trip to explore the eclectic collection of Buddhas at Buddha Eden, which is a formal garden within a wine-making estate here in central Portugal.

The Silver Coast is renowned for its world-class surfing spots so surf lessons are available either as a one-off lesson or as a weekly package.

Massage is a highlight of most guests’ retreat experience and the hardest part will be choosing which one to try. Choose from relaxation, therapeutic, deep-tissue, or Thai yoga. Coaching is also available for those wanting to transform the way they experience life.

Optional extras

  • Surf lessons for 35 EUR per 2-hour lesson or 150 EUR for 5 lessons
  • For non-yoga partners the price is 240 EUR for 10 lessons

Holistic treatments with Michelle, Kat and Carlos


A good massage is truly one of life’s greatest pleasures. Michelle massages mainly with her forearms, which readily mould themselves around the body encouraging tense knotted tissues to release effortlessly. Through the release of tension and stress, the body and mind is invited to recover to its natural state of innate balance, and is thus fortified and rejuvenated. Supporting and harmonizing both body and mind, massage therapy can be of benefit to everyone - whether your health is good or has room for improvement.

Therapeutic massage: is a thorough massage combining techniques from Swedish deep tissue, and no-hands massage to effortlessly soothe away muscular aches and pains. Treatment can be either localized or full-body. Guaranteed to leave you feeling lighter and brighter.

Relaxation massage is a soft flowing full-body treatment for those who don’t have any specific aches or pains or who just want to be pampered into total relaxation.

Facial massage: with pure Monoi oil, includes acupressure points and massage to the neck to rejuvenate, refresh and revive. As a result of the increased blood circulation and stimulation, the temperature of the skin increases, opening the pores and cleansing the skin from deep within. In addition to improving skin and muscle tone, as well as reducing fine lines and wrinkles, the skin is hydrated and rejuvenated. Rediscover a more radiant youthful-looking skin, naturally!

Holistic clinical aromatherapy: involves the application of essential oils to improve physical and emotional well-being. Although the massage may be offered without the addition of essential oils, it has been Michelle’s experience that the benefits are often enhanced when they are used due to their inherent therapeutic properties, as a result of their unique energetic nature and chemical composition.


Thai Yoga Massage comes from an ancient Buddhist tradition and is a unique combination of yoga, acupressure, meditation, physiotherapy and energy work. It is an holistic therapy form with the aim of restoring the natural energy balance in body and mind.

Kat’s work is strongly influenced by Osteothai techniques. Osteothai is the marriage of traditional Thai Massage and modern Osteopathy. The precise but gentle techniques of Osteopathy work in perfect harmony with the creative practice of Thai Massage.


Ayurvedic Massage (Abhyangam) is one of the most complete massage techniques of Ayurvedic medicine, a natural medicine indigenous to India. Ayurvedic Massage is a full-body massage with warm oils, specifically suited to your dosha (constitution). Through the rhythmic movements which are alternately soft and sometimes more energetic, specific energy points in the body called Marma Points are stimulated, helping to relax the nervous system and muscles, and balancing the body and mind. As a result of the deep relaxation and detoxification of tissues, you will feel revitalized and invigorated. Ayurvedic massage balances and harmonizes the 5 elements of the body, promoting well-being on all levels.

Massage treatments are charged from 50 EUR per hour or part thereof.

¿Cómo llegar?

Arrival by airplane

  • Lisbon Portela International Airport (LIS)

The Maverick is 1 hour away from Lisbon Airport and group transfers are included. Timing of transfers will be confirmed once guests confirm flight times but please aim to arrive between 3pm to 5pm. On Tuesday 2nd, the return transfer will leave at noon so a return flight from 3pm onwards is ideal.

If you are arriving later or need to leave earlier, private transfers from Lisbon airport can be organised at a cost of €50 or €70 for 2 people.

  • Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO)

If your flight arrives into Porto, there are trains to the nearby stations of Caldas da Rainha and Bombarral where a taxi can be organised to collect you.
