The facilities at Talalla Retreat are second to none. Well-appointed rooms, excellent food, fresh juices, a large swimming pool, and the sprawling common areas are all yours to enjoy. They also have a very skilled team of massage therapists and a wide variety of indulgent spa treatments. The yoga hall is equipped with everything you need including mats, blocks, straps, and bolsters.

The yoga retreat runs from Sunday afternoon until Friday morning. The 6 days and 5 nights’ yoga package comes along with daily yoga lessons and workshops with the very experienced yoga teachers in the open-air yoga hall in a very relaxed and natural environment.
The yoga retreat package is an all-inclusive package with room accommodation and full board meals. It also includes cultural activity, welcome bag, and a massage treatment. The package can be combined with different room types. Talalla Retreat welcomes everyone from beginners to advanced practitioners to join this retreat. All you’ll need is your deep breath!
Your retreat begins with a one on one session with the teachers to introduce you to the retreat program and to answer all your questions. A gentle evening yoga session will help you to recover from a day of traveling before you join other retreat participants for your welcome dinner. A beautiful welcome ceremony will tune you into the Talalla vibe.
One day in a week, you will have an excursion to Hiriketya Beach, a beautiful horseshoe bay which is located 20 minutes away. If you would like to surf, Talalla Retreat can bring boards from Talalla and there are surf instructors at the beach that you can hire. Otherwise, enjoy a coconut lounging in a hammock, or walk up the rocky point for a quiet meditation.
During the week, you can enjoy daily classes on yoga, meditation, pranayama, and workshops and a lot of delicious food and drinks. On Thursday evening, Talalla Retreat will invite you to join the closing ceremony. The retreat will end on Friday with a morning yoga practice and a tasty breakfast. Extend your stay for a few more days of relaxation at Talalla Retreat or continue your travels in Sri Lanka.
Vinyasa yoga is a practice in which a continuous sequence of postures and breathing are the primary forms. Vinyasa means “correct purposeful placement of movement and breath” and so, this group class focuses on proper sequencing of movement to create a dynamic sense of flow, good form, and alignment. Variations will be given to accommodate practitioners of all levels.
Led by the resident yoga teachers, these daily workshops will be an opportunity to explore other aspects of yoga that are not covered generally in regular yoga classes. Topics such as anatomy, yoga philosophy, meditation, developing a home practice, and advanced postures will be covered.
Explore different techniques of meditation in the open-air yoga hall or on the beach. Pranayama is the practice of controlling or regulating the breath in order to increase vitality and overall well-being. Talalla Retreat and you will explore a range of breathing exercises and learn the proper techniques used for breathing in poses, cleansing, energizing, and meditation. Talalla Retreat also begins to cultivate the practice of seated meditation and self-reflection via some writing exercises.
Restorative yoga is a very gentle and quiet practice. Talalla Retreat uses props such as bolsters, blankets, and straps to support the body in the poses. Restorative yoga calms your nervous system and the long hold poses assist the body and the mind to deeply relax and renew. Yin yoga focuses on the connected tissues such as ligaments, bones, and joints of the body. Yin yoga can be used in a passive and soft way as well as a more challenging way due to the long hold of the postures.
During the week, you will be able to enjoy 1 full one-on-one session with your yoga teacher to focus on your special needs and questions about postures, breathing techniques and what you always wanted to know about yoga.
Melanie discovered yoga when she was 19 years old traveling in India. After returning home to California, she continued to explore and deepen further into the yoga practice. Melanie is in the process of finishing the next level of her yoga training - a 500-hour YTT from Yoga Tree San Francisco. Her adventures have led her to teach yoga in all kinds of exciting settings including; a beautiful jungle shala in Tulum, Mexico, for a surf camp in Taghazout, Morocco, leading yoga sailing retreats around the islands of Croatia, and now in beautiful Sri Lanka at Talalla Retreat!

Talalla Retreat is proud of their low mileage approach to food, sourcing local ingredients, and produce from nearby markets and fishing villages. Much of the resort's herbs and spices are grown organically on the property, while other seasonal ingredients are sourced fresh daily from local markets and fishermen.
The price includes a complimentary 1-hour full body massage by one of Talalla Retreat's resident massage therapists. Sooth tired muscular aches after days out surfing with a deep tissue, reflexology, or aromatherapy massage at the ultimate Sri Lanka spa experience. Pamper hands, feet, or face with local preparations made of papaya, honey, coffee, milk, and sandalwood. Wrap, scrub or smooth out any last remnants of stress with skillfully trained expert practitioners at their best.
Centuries-old Ayurvedic techniques inspire modern treatments and the signature Shirodhara has been re-created at Talalla. Here, mixtures of essential oils are gently poured on your third eye chakra, allowing you to release any final mental tension.
Enjoy an Ayurvedic massage, where a relaxing full body massage combines with warm Ayurvedic herbal oil to cleanse and balance the internal systems and energy center of the body. Other specialized services include pregnancy massage and Swedish massage, all available at the Talalla Sri Lanka Spa.
Sea planes can be rented to fly from Colombo to a destination about 45 minutes from Talalla. Just make sure you have your camera with you because the Sri Lankan coast scenery will be mind blowing!
This option would suit people who are traveling on a budget, not for the faint hearted. The chaos on the roads of Sri Lanka can be a bit overwhelming at first, but if you are into adventure, then this can be a wild experience. There are buses that utilize the newly established highway from Colombo to Matara and a local bus can be taken from Matara to Talalla. The average time for transfer is 6 - 10 hours.
Sri Lanka is well known for its beautiful train rides through the local villages and coastal towns. This is one of the longer options and will involve a tuk-tuk or taxi ride to the closest station. But it would be well worth your time if you are after a bit of an adventure and would like to experience some of the local culture first hand. The average time for transfer is 7 hours.
Taxis are available at the airport. Some will be willing to take you to the south coast, and others will hesitate. Make sure you say Matara / Gandara as a destination point so that they know where they are heading and ensure they know exactly where Talalla is. If you take a private driver from the transport stands in the arrival terminal, make sure that you bargain to ensure you get the best deal. A reasonable price is 130 USD (16000 RPS) one way. The average time for transfer is 4 hours
